Recent update to either windows or Star11 has locked the system tray icons again (system tray, the icons with the clock and sound/network). For the longest time i was able to reorganise the icons the way i want, but now they are locked, and look to be floating above start11 as its textured differently.

System Tray error

As you can see, its a different texture and size to start11, and when i try to move the icon's, i get the error (circle with the cross through it)

Are you perhaps using an insider build of Windows 11?

If so which channel?

Sadly i am, and for some reason i can't get out of it, i wanna go back to release, but it won't let me without a format.

I am in the beta build.

Thats why then.  The beta channel has a new taskbar which right now is rather limited and doesn't allow you to rearrange system tray icons.  The dev channel build has fixes for that so I would imagine those fixes will slowly make it down the channels.

Was able to fix it with ExplorerPatcher, running that with Start11 seems to be working for now, only issue is i can't have my icons in the middle with the start bar on the left, so just have everything on the left for now, the rest is fine :), including being able to seperate sound and internet icons. So that's a bonus.

When will we be able to drag and drop icons from the Start11 menu to the desktop?
End of ldeveraux's quote

There is very limited demand for that hence why it is not something we have implemented.

The collation issue I already noticed for 1.1... is still relevant in 1.31.

As given by the regular windows menu:

That is strange as this was fixed a very long time ago.

Could you uninstall Start11, REBOOT and reinstall 1.31 please and just confirm if the issue is still happening?

Quoting sdRohan,

Start11 1.31 changelog

      1. The line on 22H2 taskbars now adjusts with the alpha set on the taskbar by the user and is hidden entirely when the taskbar is on top. You can also create a registry key in the usual location of type string and give it a value of "1" and a name of "HideTaskbarLineEntirely" should you wish to always hide the line entirely.

Thank you for the update. Pardon me for asking, but where is this "usual location" in the registry exactly (I was googling for it but couldn't find anything)? I'd like to completely hide the line when the task bar is hidden on my OLED to lower the risk of burn-in.

Also, would it be possible to set these registry keys via an option in Start11 settings so people could easily set it without knowing this mysterious "usual location" in a future version of Start11?

End of Cave's quote

The usual location is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\Start8

Unfortunately the more of these options added to the UI, the more confusing it can be and the more strings need translating.  For niche options having a registry key is a better choice.

This issue here in the screenshot is something that happens seemingly randomly. I'm not sure at all what causes it. But the all programs list is blank until I hover over it.

This is the Windows 10 menu, I've just cropped out all my pins. I'm on Windows 11 22621.755 on Start11 1.31.

I noticed that the other thread is closed, so I'll continue on with my issue here. :)

I'm on 1.31 and still experiencing the same taskbar issue. Neil, you were requesting some more information so here it is.

The issue still occurs if the taskbar is two lines. You can see how many items I generally have on the taskbar. I've also been experiencing an issue with the taskbar not respecting the custom icons I have set for Edge PWAs.

The email icon is white when unopened.

As soon as it's opened it goes to the default icon.

Context menu shows the correct icon.

Here are my taskbar settings as requested.

Hopefully this is everything that you needed. I appreciate it.

I think it is working correctly with regards to the icons.

When in combined mode, the icon for the shortcut is used for the application both when pinned and when running.  But when not combined the icon for the actual window is used.  This will be being set by the PWA not your shortcut hence it is different.  You should see this if you mouseover the item when running and the thumbnail switcher pops up.  The icon should match.

You seem to have your setup configured to never combine, but also do not show text.  In this mode it follows the rules for non combined mode which means when running the actual icon for the window trumps the icon used for the shortcut.  This is how Windows 10 works and how Windows 11 would work if it actually allowed you to uncombine buttons.

Proceeded as requested:

  1. At first, I decided to keep the parameters when uninstalling (I didn't want to redo all my config)
=> same result: The All applications menu collation is broken
    :annoyed:
  2. Finally, I did a full reinstall and rebuild my config from scratch
=> again, same result: The All applications menu is still broken

A bit of info I can't find anywhere:
Is it possible to choose a key combination to launch the Start11 start menu?
I am thinking of CTRL Win or Alt Win.
Or could this be added in an update?

The Win key alone should be enough, no?

Set up a clean system noticed a few packages from the Windows store are displaying oddly on the Windows 10 Style app list.   This is the Apple iCloud package and set of apps.   It shows this odd folder name with the individual applets instead of just the applets.

It does display properly in the native Win11 menu.

In the Start11 Configuration Control settings you can set the left Windows key to open the Start11 menu, and if you have a right Windows key on your keyboard you can set it to open the Windows Start Menu. If you don't have a right Windows key, you could remap another key to the right Windows key. For example, remap the right Alt key to the right Windows key.

You can also set clicking the Start button to open the Start11 Menu and Ctrl+click the Start button to open the Windows Start Menu.

NOTE: You can use Microsoft PowerToys' Keyboard Manager module to remap the keys.

What does 'properly' look like in the Win native menu (screenshot)?

Also, does this happen in every Start11 menu type (7, 10, Modern, etc)?

Thanks for taking the time to help me out but that's not what I'm looking for.
Most of my keyboards indeed do not have a right Win key.

I am using three app launchers:
- The Windows Start Menu

- Start11
- WinLaunch
I can bind the Windows Start Menu to the Windows key and WinLaunch to etiher Ctrl or Alt Win.
It would be nice to see the same functionalityu in Start11 so I can bind Start11 to either Ctrl or Alt Win.

Sean,

Seems to be fine in Win7 and Modern menu types.

Attached is the way it looks in the native Win11 menu.  The folder ms-resource: iCloudAppDisplay is not displayed at all and the included iCloud applets are alphabetized in the list.   Interestingly, something changed here as this has been fine for over a year.  Not sure if it is the iCloud installer, Win11 2H22, or the newest version of Start11 causing the change.

Sometimes when I click on an icon on the Taskbar a new instance of the program gets open, even if the program is already open.

In the settings I have enabled Start11 menu and taskbar enhancements.

I'm not sure if this is a Windows Insider bug or Start 11 but I thought I'd mention it anyway. After updating to 25236 most of the Web Apps I had installed with Edge were missing from both the Windows Start menu and Start 11 even though they were still installed in Edge. Some I was able to repopulate both Start menus from Edge but others I had to delete and reinstall.

I know you don't deal with Windows Insider issues but I thought you may want to know.

If they were missing from the Windows start menu as well then it would be an OS/edge issue rather than Start11.  We can only show installed apps and it sounds like they broke something.
