How Come this site is not Opera friendly?

I am an Opera user, and alot of the things on this site don't work with Opera, like when I open wincustomize, the pages do not render correctly, this happens alot.. And on the message boards this text box is jumping up and down-lol..Oh I could just switch to IE I suppose, but IE and I parted ways along time ago..Please help us Opera users out and make your pages standards-compliant......

Yes, it is unfortunate that windows=IE, because IE is very old and I can't fathom why people still want to use it. I think Gates & company should revamp internet explorer or,better yet, do away with it all together.Opera is ,by far, the best browser out there and I have tried them all. What would be really nice if somehow, by some force of nature, windows would be packaged with Opera and not old IE, but it isn't a perfect world tho....

Do the pages display properly if you use IE?

IE is a tool to display web pages. I've never understood the need to use something different As long as you can see what you want. what's it matter what the browser is?

Besides, looks OK with WB skinning it...

looks ok in Opera here , are you sure you're using the newest version of Opera?? Try the new Opera v.7.2 Beta...

Fuzzy, some of us use other browsers so we can have tabbed pages, and in many cases, faster loading pages. IE is a turtle compared to Firebird, especially loading images. I'm on dialup, it's very noticeable to me.

Hmmm, the only time I get slow loading pages is when the server at the other end is slow. I can't imagine what I would want tabbed pages for

rikkie I tend to shy away from betas. I am using 7.11 but I have heard that 7.20 is good tho, I'll just wait until its final I think. And fuzzy trust me, lol, it matters. If you have a fast connection, then maybe IE is ok,but I dont wanna spend 40+ bucks a month just to get that relic to load things quick. And Opera can be skinned with either windowblinds or style xp as long as you use one of the native skins available for it.Like Qute native,Minimalist native, even IE6 native..

You are obviously having problems with it, so, it can't be all that good...

Well I invite you to try it..Then see what you have to say?
And it is that good actually, they let you have it for free, but I registered it and payed the 39 bucks for it.....So there ya go...
Don't be scared, just give it a try, yes it's different, but they are differences that count. I bet one whirl on Opera and you won't go back to IE...

No.75,I am an Opera Freak,I use it all the time on WC with no noticeable difference at all.I am a Beta tester am have had similar problems as you have spoken of.Are you using a maximized window while viewing the WC site? I did notice when I was using 7.11 the WC site would only display correctly when either full screen or maximized. You really should try the latest beta. They are a fantastic community of support there.

Just for fun I dl'd mozilla firebird,Koasati, and it does seem faster. But if I move my mouse it underlines eveything I type.

Plus ,its displaying some pages way off the screen.Sometimes refreshing will straighten it out but that defeats the purpose of being faster.
It dosnt use yz's icons but at least these arnt ugly.

Now if I could figure out how to move the address bar.

Hum, Fuzzy I love you, but really saying that Windows = IE is like saying that if you live in the US you should buy Ford.  Competition exist for a reason: diversity of products.  Opera is a different browser with different features, why should anybody be forced to stick to a specific product?
And indeed, the site is mainly coded for IE, there are many bugs with other browsers; and it's not the fault of the browser, it's the way the site is coded. The underlining part is really annoying and would be easy to fix, but oh well. The programmers use IE and never thought of checking with other browsers.  Personnaly, I prefer Mozilla Firebird, but I use IE because I spent most of my online time here.

Brainiac... Firebird does do strange stuff on the messageboard, but that's what SDC is good at!

Funny thing is,now IE is blasting along.Could it be afraid of the competition?

Hmm I use Mozilla Firebird and it is standards compliant similar to Opera in that way, and it displays everything fine for me including the message board. Well the board page doesn't "fit" into the window (has scrollbars for left/right) but it certainly isn't really messed up.
It is not unusual though for a website to be more geared towards IE as it is still the most popular browser even if it isn't the best one. It is the safer course of action until there is a stronger contigent of alternative browsers.

WC always worked for me in Opera....from day one....when this site went up, I was using Opera 5 then.....and a bit of debugging work was done to sort out uploading time-outs.....the only thing which seemed to differ between Opera and IE when accessing the site...

Ghos... the Comment box doesn't act weird for you? When I use Firebird on the messageboard, all text is underlined (as I type), and the box sort of jumps, when I move the mouse.

One problem I see (not necessarily with WC) is a lot of web page coders are using IE specific tags/coding which 'breaks' other browsers. A while back Microsoft was forced by public pressure to change the coding of the MSN site because it wouldn't display properly in other browsers and gave an error. Too many of their own MSN customers couldn't get into the MSN site.

I've tried a lot of the different browsers and found things I liked and disliked about all of them. I finally went back to IE just because of the coding problem on a lot of sites I went to.
