Money!

Thought that would get a few ppl's attention

My post is really about giving Wincustomize our hard earned cash! In my case I'm talking about subscribing to the site and how I can't. You see I don't have a credit card as alot of us brits don't. We rely alot more on debit cards as it's just plain easier not to straight down a road of debt if you don't have to.

I realise the site won't want to take debit cards and would prefer credit cards but wot happens to us who just can't get anyone to lend us their cards to join with? I use Paypal on the internet. Let's face it it's safer and more convenient and most sites abroad take it.

I'm getting fed up with being told the server is too busy for a limited account like mine when it isn't my choice that I have a limited account. Can someone not sort something out for us credit minded ppl like me

Anyone one else find it the same problem. I know if paypal had been available alot more products from stardock would have been bought and that surely should be the thing that matters to them.

From Stardock Sales FAQ:

Q:  I don’t have a credit card. How can I purchase Stardock software?

A:  We also accept checks or money orders in US funds (no Eurocheques, please, as they are not certified funds).  Please print and use the order form at https://www.stardock.com/order.txt (also found in the directories of Stardock’s shareware products) and mail with payment to:

Stardock Systems, Inc.
17292 Farmington Rd.
Livonia, MI 48152
USA

Yeah I know all that. It costs me an extra ten pounds to do that as well as the postage. don't you think that's abit unfair. Plus i'd have to run the risk of trusting the mail. I know I posted a card to US once and it took nearle 3 months. Sorry but I don't do that with my money.

This must be putting off other ppl too. Now if you had an address in the UK then I'd happily post off a cheque to here.

This is a genuine problem that needs looking at especially when you're all happy to be slapping restrictions on accounts like mine.

I use my debit card. There are also 'pre-paid' credit cards that are real handy. You deposit money, and use it like a credit card, but the cost of whatever you buy is deducted from the balance of money you have already set aside for that purpose.

I've used the Stardock mailing address twice with no problems at all. Once in 2001 and once earlier this year. Their response was quick and effective because it was by both email and regular mail.

well i know there'll be a few products that will be bought over a period of time. I don't want or need the extra cost and hassle.

It's a real shame we're not valued more highly i think

I am also a Brit and I also have a Debit Card form Natwest which is not accepted by many internet site, so I applied for an "American Express Blue" which is also a Debit Card (Officially), in this case they give you a limit and you pay back a small agreed amount each month, although this is a Debit Card it is accepted as a credit card, I found this very useful when needing to purchase on the internet, maybe you should look into this option.

BTW: You can repay more than the monthly amount by send Amex a cheque, just to top up your amount limit.

I hope this helps you

Gypsy Darla, I think your debit card payment would not be able to be converted to US funds.

But the American express blue is still credit then isn't it. plus you normally pay an annual fee to have american express don't you. I don't want more cards. i have cheque, debit card, paypal and store card. That's it that's my limit.I don't want one internet site to force me into getting another card just so i can come here and buy stuff. that's just plain ridiculous.

Stardock is meant to want my money! They can't find a simple way for that to happen then they don't get my money. This post is not about me being desperate to join up and wanting to find any way possible. It's about them trying to force ppl into subscriptions but not providing adequate means to do so. I'm addressing their problem, not mine.

Not with Amex Blue card, no anual fee and just a samll amout monthly, with normal Credit Cards you must repay all that you spent during the previous month, with the Blue card it is on going, or you could pay it off and cancel the card

BTW: with Amex Blue, you could then do away with PayPal and the store cards

Gypsy Darla....you are not the only person to suffer the 'tyranny of distance'.

You should try Australia on for size when it comes to postage costs and exchange rates.

Fact is there is a perfectly 'viable' method via cheque in USD via airmail and response by email. Yes, it is probably dearer but when you think of that, just ask yourself how much the Americans pay for their petrol in comparison to the Brits and yep, we don't live on a level playing field.

As for credit cards.....they are only as 'evil' as the weakness of their owner...and are in fact far more useful than any other form of transaction method.

Time to drag yourself screaming into the 90's....

I agree with Jafo. I have 2 credit cards, one for everyday use and 1 for when they don't take the other one. Charge everything and pay the bill off when it comes. That way I don't pay interest. Hate debit cards as you loose your money on the spot. At least if I drag it out foe a month or so I still earn interest on my money.

Ok you be a single mum on a low wage who probably isn't allowed to get into credit let alone who doesn't want it.

Everyone i know with a credit card, and yes i do mean everyone, has debt problems thru them. They all spend too much etc and i don't want that temptation. Because I have the sense to know i would be tempted and so am sensible enough not to get one I should be looked down on. hey thanks guys for cheering me up

I keep telling you Amex Blue is NOT a Credit Card, I have been using one for 3 years now and have had no problems and no one looking down at me, in fact they smile even more.

Now get rid of the Paypal and Store Cards and get Amex Blue.

BTW: I don't work for them

how come my friend only pays the interest each month then and not the amount she's spent. she has credit cards and not the blue one.I'm not getting a blue card so stop trying to sell it

Just trying to bring you another option for internet purchases, if you don't wish to try then that's ok, put up with not being able to do what you would like to do.

Bye

I use a debit card to buy things on the net all the time. I bought the Wincustomize Browser with one, no problem.
