I will think about it, after all this warm support I am having in this thread

It wasn't a personal thread, I wrote it thinking about all the authors, but now it is!

Let me just say like others have said: 9's and 10's should be exceptionnal. A lot of skins are way overrated.
Personnaly, I rarely rate anything higher than 8 and rarely anthing lower than 4. The rating I tend to give te most is 6. Probably 80% of the ratings I give are 6's. When it's good, I give 7 or 8 and when it's not so good, I give 4 or 5.

My ratings are right in line with Paxx's. I hardly *ever* rate anything over an 8 or below a 4. There are very few uploads that deserve anything higher or lower than that.

Lets see there is Mean, median, and mode.

Mean: The sum of a list of numbers, divided by the total number of numbers in the list.

Median:"Middle value" of a list. The smallest number such that at least half the numbers in the list are no greater than it. If the list has an odd number of entries, the median is the middle entry in the list after sorting the list into increasing order. If the list has an even number of entries, the median is equal to the sum of the two middle (after sorting) numbers divided by two.

Mode: The most commonly accuring number in the list. I.E. 1 1 1 99 98 97 86 45 32 Mode = 1

I have re-read your original post, and though it took me a few tries to see it in the light it was written in, I have come to believe that many mis-understood it, but voiced their opinions anyway, and those who followed failed to read what you wrote. Because I could not initially grasp what you were trying to say, I held off from saying anything.

Now the damage is done, but I hope you will stay anyway.

I find your work carries a certain "innocence" that I am keenly perceptive to, and also it has a "freshness of expression" I like.

Personally, I care less about ratings however necessary they may be to WC.
And I can appreciate your sharing your work with us.
Perhaps what has set some people off is the "amount" of submissions, but I am not at all bothered by them as I can choose what I will that pleases me to download.

Hopefully, you will stay with us, and hopefully we can move beyond this thread. There is too much volitility pouring onto the msg board which I believe is related to the War and all the uncertainty and divisions that comes with it.

Keeping this in mind, I for one must reach further down inside myself to learn a new level of tolerance for our WC family and friends, who are representations of our world at large and are due my utmost sincerety and respect.

I could care less what you rate my artwork. I made it, I like it, it made it with the moderators, that's all that counts. I prefer comments anyways.

I prefer downloads, I like to know people are using my stuff. But that's me.

I nice 10 rating now and then wouldn't hurt my feelings however.

I very often will give a ten rating (and a comment) to skins that I feel are better than the rating that is
listed for them. This is to help them come up to the level that I feel they deserve.
I rarely if ever rate or comment on anything that I don't like.

In the end Adni is labelled a Master, jeez i'd give anything to move up, now because he is not a Citizen puts this thread in a different light, if you reach that status do you really have anything to 'moan' about?

Hei Adni, do not bother too much about it. Each author knows what his/her value is and it is not some "enlightened" people that goes to take that conviction down.

Offcourse some works sometimes are better than others, but putting the things as I use to put, " nothing is better or worse, everything is different ".

It depends upon the perspective, right ?

I've seen where several people have commented about 'seeing' the rating a skin has. I don't recall seeing any ratings except on my own skins. Where/How do you see the ratings on other peoples skins?

I have submitted my first wallpapers to the site, I do not know whether they will be approved or not, but it won´t bother me a glitch. Why ? Just because I like the stuff I do, that stuff do really mean something to myself, because I do things for my pleasure, not for the others pleasure and I submitted them to the site, just to participate. Ok if people like them, I 'll be happy, if not, what can I do ? Shot myself ? Being a amateur/semipro photographer for more than 30 years , ( no digital aids at that time, only the good and old darkroom where I used to spend more than 24 hours in a row) I do not have anything to proof to anybody, ( won several prizes on European exhibitions and contests which prooved to me that I was capable to do nice stuff, that was appreciated by others at that time ) so today ,I have only to proof to myself that I am still capable of surprising me.
If my audience like some of my works...that's fine. If not...I won't loose my sleep pattern because of that.

I didn't open this thread for my self, but for all of you wallpaper authors!

Please read again carefully my first (#1) post.
I said that someone "is giving low rates to all the wallpapers in general".


Don't you know that the most authors, just for a hobby are giving their time and hard work for free?
Don’t you think that at least they deserve some respect or a good word, not bad ratings?

Everybody can see what is good and what is not, they don’t need someone else to tell them.
In the other hand, some authors have friends who rate them high and some don’t, what is the point then for the ratings. I guess you understand what I mean.

I was trying to be a defender and in the end I have been defendant!

Adni, maybe you have a point.Seeing by that perpspective, probably you are right. However, in my perspective, this for me its an hobby in the pure sense of the term but I believe that for others it is not "just" an hobby and that they spend a lot of their time creating and would like to be appreciated for the work they do. Who does not ?

If, and I repeat, "if" the people that rate behave like you said ( friendships and so on ), it is a matter of theirs peace of mind or not.


And again and truly appreciating what you said, what can we do ? Go away ?
