Intel Pentium 5

Intel Pentium 5

has anyone heard about this new (code named Pentium 5) Intel Chip? Word on the street is the memory for your system (SDRAM, DDR, ECT.) is built in to the chip so no upgrading. Anyone heard anything?

Some threads just cry out for a bit of gentle ribbing...

/me is doing a good job of staying away from things like message boards, the roommate, and the outdoors today.

Basically, anything which involves interaction with other people.

I -did- get weak though - and bought a pack. I've had /one/ though - and I've had my roommate hide them and keep 'em from me. ^_^

Maybe there should be a thread for us to vent our nicoteen craving rage!?

I think it is so funny that I started this thread to see if anyone knew about a new intel chip but instead I keep getting put down. Everyone keeps bringing up AMD. I am running a AMD chip right now, a duron 1.3 Ghz. I don't know what everyone has against intel but I don't like their prices. AMD is where it is at.

I have always sworn by Intel and still do....

Of course they didn't much like me swearing at them like that.....

Why would you swear by Intel? Your machine probably starts up slower than mine. I will always use AMD for the simple fact every AMD chip out-benchmarks a Intel Chip of THE SAME CLASS and speed. Check it out for yourself at www.amd.com.

As I recall it's all to do with L2 cache sizes...that's where the price is...and ultimately 'real' performance, not to be confused with 'benchmarking' which can be made to give any results you wish to prove your point.
Simple creative accounting...

Yes this is true Jafo. I admit my Duron only has a 128 L2 Cache, but my new chip, The AMD Athlon 3000+ w/ Barton core has the 256 L1 AND L2 Cache onboard. I intrested to see what this chip does with my SiS 745 Chipset.

On a related note, The Duron has the same L2 as the Celeron. A Duron beats the Celeron in test after test... That is a 1.3 Gig Celeron.

I still like my Intel, thank you very much....

Your welcome to your own devices. Some like Intel other AMD. Sorry for yelling at you. So do you have the P4? I've never owned one and I'd love to here how they perform.
Yes it's a P4.... it's about two years old now and I feel no need to upgrade, other than increasing my RAM from the original 256 megs to 768 megs which made a big difference in running the graphics apps that I am using currently...

Strangely, competitive products with disparate pricing is generally an indication of their potential performance specification. If it's priced like crap, there's a good chance it also IS crap.
Parity in pricing generally matches parity in performance.
GM and Ford may be 'similar', but a Ferrari will always be more expensive, even with fewer doors...

When one is anally pre-occupied with 'size' or 'speed', etc, most analysts put that down to penis-substitute/envy/fixation....

Cool. I am running only 128 DDR but that will change tommorrow. 384 should make a difference I guess. Maybe I should look into the p4 chips.

Hey Jafo.. even if I am a girl?

Terry with a 'Y'...just like my wife?...

I'm not a girl but for the record who cares about the speed of what prosessor or system. We are all chatting here to discuss in a brotherly fashion different aspects of what we have heard or deen and to share artwork and skins or so i thought. Anyways, I am happy with what I have.

I've had a dell latitude laptop as well as a dell dimension desktop. Sold them in 2000 but I must say Dell is awesome.

I used to buy Micron all the time, but Dell blows them away....

If I can not talk my wife into the 17.s Power book next month when this contract comes in, I'm going with the Dell support is fantastic and they are rock solid.

Compaq used to be able to make that claim back a while ago when it was Compaq, HP makes a great server, but ick the desktops.... Kinda on the grade of the old Packarbells

I built my system piece by piece. AMD Duron 1.3, 40gig, etc. Now I come to find out I could have gone to Costco and ordered a Dell through them for cheap. Should have waited. Dell customer support rocks.

I don't think there is a big noticable difference between one brand or the other.
If you have to rely on a benchmarking software to measure the difference between one or the other, then the difference isn't that big? huh?

My next PC will probably be AMD, just because it's cheaper, and in my opinion probably just as good. Why pay more for nothing? Contrarely to Jafo, I think that price isn't always related to quality, but very often related to brand recognition. You can have two identical products but one will be twice the price of the other simply because of the brand name.
