1.15 - Right Windows Key Bug

I was on 1.14 and had the right windows key set to open the Windows 8 menu. I also had the shift+windows key option set because I don't actually have a right windows key. I worked really well but does not work at all on 1.15. Shift+Windows Key simply opens Start8 menu.

I have tried checking and changing every option and nothing can return it to the previous behavior. So now I am assuming it is a bug with the latest release. Anyone else can confirm?

I have Ctrl + Windows key set, and it still works for me with v1.15.

That doesn't work for me either.

None of the Options for "Don't have a right windows key?" work under version 1.15

I have rebooted after the install.

I will get QA to see if they can reproduce this next week and if we can and it is a quick fix we will see about putting out an update.

I don't know for certain, but I think last week's Windows Updates broke the prior release of Start8.

Update for Windows 8 (KB2822241)  Installation date: ‎4/‎18/‎2013 5:07 AM

Security Update for Windows 8 (KB2781197)  Installation date: ‎4/‎18/‎2013 5:08 AM

Broke how?

I am not aware of any reports of any Windows updates ever breaking Start8.

OK, then I am mistaken. Thinking back, I thought the right windows key feature stopped working under the previous release of Start8 after I installed the referenced updates. I thought that might help and be the reason why it is working for some and not others. Good Luck!

I had the same problem of [Win]+[Shift] opening the Start8 menu after installing v1.5, but the problem disappeared after a restart. [Win]+[Shift] has been opening the Windows 8 menu ever since.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it; I encountered the same problem. I was thinking about changes I made recently. One thing that jumps out is - I installed ModernMix!

add me to the list of users encountering this problem

I have played with it and can conclude that ModernMix breaks right window key in start8 1.15 It doesn't matter if you use 1.00 or the modernmix beta. If you uninstall modernmix issue is not gone. You need to uninstall and re-install start8 to have the functionality again.

BTW I don't have right Windows key so I use the win+CTRL option.

Workaround: Create custom shortcut  though I prefer the win + CTRL option!

I think that may just be a coincidence.  Some people are having the issue, others are not and it seems to be timing sensitive.

I believe we have a small update planned with a tweak which may address this.

yup, this problem is random. right now CTRL+LEFT WINDOWS KEY is working for me.

I would like to add my name to the list as somebody that is also having this problem.  Please fix...  Thank you.

Yikes, I can't get any of the options, under DON'T HAVE A RIGHT WINDOWS KEY?, to work - anymore!

Also, the field below Holding the Windows Key ...... that reads Recreate pinned shortcut to Windows 8 menu is disabled (grayed out). Is that supposed to pin it to the Taskbar?

The problem does not reproduce consistently on any machines here so changes have been made based on a theory of the problem.  I expect we are right on the root issue, but there is always a chance we are not.

I believe a beta update is going up later today with this plus a number of other changes based on customer feedback.

The recreate pinned shortcut to Windows 8 menu will be greyed out because you already have the shortcut on your start menu.  This only becomes enabled when you have deleted it as it is purely there to put it back so it has no function when it already exists.
