Can't Lie.. feeling a bit cheated...

When I saw Fallen Enchantress was being released I was rather excited. My favorite Stardock game is Galactic Civilizations, while I know this wasn't that exactly, I was still very excited for it. When the game was released however, I felt that it was rushed. They basically took an already existing game, tweaked it, and released it.. still rushed.

I can't say that didn't make me feel good about it. The AI was atrocious, and its taken them up till now to actually fix it, and even now its not that great. Other things about the game seemed rushed, or not fully there. Watered down, or nearly pointless. While it has amazing potential, the game just feels stripped of real depth.

Then I heard about FE:LH being released, I was excited once again, as it seemed hey, it appears as though they are now fixing the last things which really needed to be touched on to make the game even decent enough to really put time into. It also said I could Order the game for 19.99 if I already have FE. Awesome.

Then I got slapped in the face....

There's a 50% discount on Steam right now, making FE:LH 50% off. For EVERYONE. I bought FE on Steam. This to me is a serious slap in the face. Its favoring those who don't have FE, and who didn't support the game. They can buy it for 20$ as well.... While here I am, having supported the game and company for years, and despite the main website saying I can get it for 19.99 while everyone who doesn't have FE has to buy it for 39.99.. Is false...

Seems to me, they are releasing this FE:LH as a standalone, well they are, there is no denying that... It seems like a marketing ploy, which heavily insults, and slaps the face of Stardock fans who have supported them, to release FE in a half done mess, then rush fixes out, while still having glaring problems, then make practically a second game which is a just a spitting image of FE, with better done mechanics, and then releasing it separate from FE all together (apart from the non existent "special upgrade"), seems like a very bad business practice.

Its making me feel cheated honestly. If LH was a legit expansion, in which you needed to buy FE first, then the expansion. That's a totally different ball game. Then they could simply make FE:LH 50% off, and keep FE full price, thus making people who already have FE buy it for that discount, while players who don't have it, must buy the game first, then the expansion at full price even on steam.

Even though I never come onto the Stardock forums, I've always supported them as my top 4 best game companies who I held much higher than all the rest.. I have to say, I'm starting to consider not touching Stardock for awhile after this move...

Edit: There is an easy fix to this I think.... maybe..... Release it as a DLC to Fallen Enchantress. as 20$ + a 50% off (since FE:LH is 50% off right now as well, its only fair).

Edit #2: I am extremely embarrassed by my mistake.. On steam I saw the -50% off and assumed it was a sale for everyone.. Its only for FE owners. So thats making everything true to their word, I get it practically updated for 20$, while non FE people have to pay the 40$.....

Time to cover my face in embarrassment ><;;; Sorry....

I sort of understand what you're saying, but games go on sale all the time and that's just something we have to accept. The only real issue I see here is the website not being 100% up-to-date about the sale.

Your taking what I'm saying out of context. Its the whole thing combined, the fact they essentially make FE 2.0 and punish those who have the original FE.

Bad decision of when to put it on sale is no excuse. I understand sales will happen, but doing a sale BEFORE release, ultimately punishing those supporters who have had FE, and who can essentially give them the best feedback is not good business practice, nor ethical.

I know what you'll say, ethics has no place in business. yes it does have a place. problem is, people are getting so used to getting screwed by game companies, they dont care anymore. Thats a crying shame.

Actually, I was going to say you haven't been punished in any way. There is no conflict between having a discount for previous owners, and a sale.

Had I not bought FE with a 66% discount, I too would be annoyed at having to pay for LH.

More people in the community means:

   -more support from the devs

   -more great mods.

   -even better game

Win win.  If you ask me.

How is there no conflict? Its common sense. If previous owners can get the LH for 20$ instead of the 39.99, that is all in all a bonus due to already having FE.

Now if you add in the 50% off which cuts the FE:LH down to 20,00 as well for non FE people, that completely negates it being worth anything for FE owners.

All its doing is making me wish I didn't support Stardock with FE. As it was a complete mess at release, complete mess up until just now, and even then its still a mess in many ways, only to have them turn around, release basically the same exact game, except with fixes, then force FE users to  not only buy it at an inflated price, but then let non FE users buy it for the same price?

Seems like a slap in the face to me.

Edit: Is there something I'm missing here? Is there supposed to be a way I can get FE:LH on Steam for 60% off or more? Or am I right in assuming both FE and non FE people are paying the same exact price for it? which is 20$

I got LH for free due to buying Elemental when it first came out. But I can understand your feelings, OP. To reward all of the long time fans with a lower price, and then within a few days of release offering that same deal to anyone, is pretty disingenuous of Stardock.

Elemental? or Fallen Enchantress: Elemental? I pre ordered Fallen Enchantress. But either way. Elemental users already got a huge discount on Fallen Enchantress as it was did they not for already having Elemental? Now you guys get a second bonus, while people who pre ordered, and supported FE during beta, etc. get kicked in the ass? I feel even more cheated now.

I do understand what you are saying.

I bought FE through Steam at full price when it was released (I think it was about £25 - Â£30ish). When the Beta of LH became available it wasn't on Steam straight away (as a listing to buy) so I bought it through Stardock for $20 (approx £15) to get my Steam serial key. This price seemed like the reduced price - but I thought to myself "how do they know I already have FE?" since I didn't buy that game through Stardock.

It didn't really matter - I was happy to have gotten LH for the reduced price of £15.

Then the next day LH appeared on Steam as a proper listing, costing just £12.50 for everyone, whether they had FE or not. I know this is a sale price, but it still caught my eye. I clearly wasn't getting any discount for having bought FE compared to people who hadn't.

I'm not really unhappy about it - LH is great and the hours of gameplay I'll get from the game means it is worth a hell of a lot more than £15 to me, but I can see the OP's point.

I pre-ordered the original Elemental game. Due to its... shaky release, we were given FE and LH for free. That was always the case, and was never stated otherwise by Stardock. In fact, that gesture made me, as a customer, really respect and appreciate Stardock as a company. Which is one of the reason I am surprised by this sudden Steam sale. Stardock has always seemed very loyal to their long time customers.

I'm really confused by this.  I looked at Steam and can't find it saying it's 50% off for everyone, only those who already own the game.  What am I missing?  I'm confused by this topic...

"Pre-Purchase Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes and get immediate access to the beta on Steam! Also owners ofFallen Enchantress on Steam get 50% off!

The Fallen Enchantress seeks to destroy the civilizations that have risen from the ashes of the Cataclysm. Fortunately, your fame has spread and great heroes have been drawn to your banner. With your new champions, you will confront new horrors like liches, brood hunters, banshees, and the dreaded hergon.

Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes is the new standalone expansion to Stardock’s turn-based, fantasy strategy game. Players will forge a new empire in a world sundered by powerful magic, fight against terrible creatures, complete quests and rediscover lost secrets in their bid to rule the world of Elemental."

I've just checked and it seems to have changed now. It is £25 standard price for new buyers.

The Steam sale was my fault. It was only a sale for FE owners. I didn't notice that until just now. And its a "sale" which is indefinite, I'll always have that 50% off since I own FE.

Exactly, but short-sighted mentality doesn't get that. Even if it was almost for everyone for a while, bigger community means more cash for the devs, and that in turn means (usually) more investments into post-release support and sequels. Both sides win.

Natural Selection 2, my currently favorite game, has a free weekend and a sale - am I angered that I had it for full price? No! I go online and try to explain the game to the new people, because the learning curve is too steep, no single player and no tutorials. Declining community means dead and forgotten game.

I really don't get those people who do not complain that bread is expensive, but that other people can get it so cheap.

I don't think anyone's being cheated, but aggressive discounting has become the new normal. For example, FE was discounted 66% a month after release.

So the lesson learned from this new pricing environment is patience. Soon enough, that game you want, will be discounted. Just learn to wait it out.

Haha, I guess it was hard to believe Stardock would do that for a reason. Glad it isn't the case.

Lol I paid $80 for War of Magic and you didn't hear me CRY about them dropping the price of it. I swear people cry about nothing anymore just to read themselves cry I think.

Well, I think it has to do more about the timing of the price drop, rather than the drop itself.

"Back in the day" it took a while for prices to drop. People just have to get used to the new environment.
