Quests differentiated by Faction.

Suggestion

One thing that has been bothering me when im trying to play an evil faction bent on world domination is that every quest I seem to get is "can you help some poor farmers rescue snuffles the kitty from happy land" or some other naff goody two shoes hero type fare.

Evil factions should have evil quests... we should have the option of destroying whole towns due to not achieving quotas, murdering aforementioned kittys for being cute ect ect you get the picture.

I want to be Sauron dammit not Aragon ALL OF THE TIME.

Im sure this will be modded in if not in for release but still seems a bit lame as it stands.

but its a fluffy evil doom kitten infested with evil spirits which will inevitably conquer the world or spirit away trying!
Its just pretending to be cute.

I think the best way to achieve this is with quest choices that lead to different outcomes and rewards.  Already very possible.   If you have a particular idea, I could whip up a quest in the quest wizard in a few minutes and you could play around with it.  Or you could do the same.

Choices are the key to making a quest available for both evil and good people, because you can't limit quests to races at this point.

I think he wants it in the core game, but when the core game releases we can point him towards your excellent wizard!

Yeah I believe it should be in the core game. Im not adverse to modding it myself however when the core game is released.

Choices for quests that allow you to be evil would be good.. as it stands I find the questing aspect of the game really jarring.

I am an evil resolyn dark wraith who is busy summoning Grave Elementals from shards that I have corrupted with my evil death magic so I can brutally conquer the whole world.. but hold on, let me stop to help the peasant farmers find their missing sons, because im a dark wraith that cares :/

If I was playing GC2, MOO2, MOM ect, I can imagine myself as an evil empire conquering, murdering , committing intergalactic genocide, you know , all the good stuff... FE's problem is that it provides a narrative for your heroes/sov which detracts from the RPG elements, even from the TBS elements in fact.

Who could forget the first time they used a terror star to destroy another races homeworld. Or the first time you summoned an undead army to conquer those nature loving spell users in MoM... In FE im too busy running errands for peons to feel evil.

I'll play this game a little more (ive been holding back in a big way awaiting release) and i'll hit you up about your quest maker and see if I can put together some sort of quest mod... Im ok with the writing aspects ect not so good (read totally hopeless) at code.

Some quests have this... we can turn the noblewoman into her father or to the bandits.  we can fight the disciples or the bandit mob.  you can kill the wolf or save the wolf.  if there are any specific ones you want changed, let us know!

The 3 sons quest is the most recent one that springs to mind. Heal the woman, or dont, but go forth to locate her missing progeny. I havent encountered heaps of quests that allow you to be evil yet but im heartened by the fact you state they are there.

I believe every single quest should allow for an evil choice..

at least 1 good choice, and at least 1 evil choice, and 1 abandon choice and meaby some in-between choices would make an interesting mix to each quest.
But that is all up to the person who creates the quests.

^Attention to little details like this will go a long way towards helping the game to launch brilliantly.

I do not think that ALL quests should have an evil choice.  Seriously, what's the evil choice when you are exploring a cave?  Set traps near the entrance after you've cleared it?

Many quests have evil choices now.  The Assassin Blade is evil, you can sell the noblewoman to the bandits, you can leave the farmgirl enslaved, etc..

Sure, more is better, and I would love to have more variety, but having all three choices in every quest will lead to the artificial crap one sees in Bioware games.

1. You rescue the cat, brush its fur, and tie a rainbow ribbon on its neck.

2. You strangle the grandmother and steal her moth-eaten shawl.

3. You say "I will rescue the cat only if you give me your shawl".

No, thanks.

Ok although some quests do have evil choices, on the whole many do not.

My current game im playing as Resolyn, I get approached by a "young knight" who is then disapointed because "he believed in me" when I chose not to help him.

Hrm, was it the part where I was brutally conquering both the Tarth and Relias with my Grave Elementals that would indicate I am worth believing in? Or was it the gallows I am building throughout my towns so I can suppress and subjugulate my population? Maybe its the corrupted land that seems to spring forth wherever im settling.

Things like this detract from the immersion. It is probably too late to fix for release....

Yeah, the events (that just happen when there is enough population) as opposed to the quests, should definitely have an evil option.
