Should Random Maps Use the "Fair" Planets?

For those who don't know, the v1.04 update included a bunch of "fair" planets (for example, there is a PlanetTerran.entity and PlanetTerranFair.entity)...these planets are identical except that there is no variability with resource asteroids (a fair asteroid will always give 2 metal and 1 crystal)...

It's great that SD recognized the value of these...unfortunately since the random maps don't use them, it's not doing the MP community a whole lot of good...I'm petitioning to get these "fair" planets implemented into the standard random maps, or at the very least for "fair" copies of these maps to be part of the base game....

Judging by the galaxyscenariodef and strings file, SD plans to make "fair" variants of the random maps.

Starting Homeworlds should all be equal, but if the map is random, why would you want the planets to all be the same?  Doesn't that defeat the purpose of randomness?  Or did I misunderstand something you said?

The fun of random maps is having to adapt to your spawning position, which is different each time you play. It would be fair though, if everyone would be able to colonize planets and asteroids that have an equal amount of extractors, for the sake of game balance.

Randomness if great, but it should't come at the cost of game balance.

I guess I can see that.  I'd prefer it be added into game options though, not the core game.

I agree with Twi on this one. I do not mind the randomness of it, even if i get a slight disadvantage at the very start. I like random being random and having to adapt to that. If changed make it an option in settings.

Nothing is lost by adding an option.

What could be gained however... 1v1's and/or competitive multiplier could actually become a thing.

I know I would finally legitimately just be. ecstatic that I could play a 1v1, and not be able to blame a loss or win by getting map screwed / opponent getting map screwed.

anything else interesting new in those files?

SD has made everything for these new maps other than the maps themselves; all that's needed is to take an existing random and change it's planet groups/strings.

If these things will be fair, then what will be the purpose of the black market?
I like it that every time another resource is rare and the other more common.
But i also think that the diffrence in low-high prizes in the black market should have been bigger.

races still require different quantities of resources, like, the advent is crystal heavy.

And the black market would definitely still be a thing regardless, before quickstart, selling 200 metal and buying 100 crystal was one of the first things to happen in a game, and the quicker you were on that draw, the better.

They already have all the weighted random and what not entries in the GSD for the fair planets...it would take 3 minutes to copy the standard random maps and change the planet type entries to the fair ones....I know, because I've done it...
