So how fast can you go?

Just curious, what speed are you connected to the Internet?

Have the recent changes at WinCustomize made the site seem faster?

This is good feedback. When you're on a direct connection, it's hard to gauge any difference.

I was at my mom's neighbor's house the other day and he's on a 28.8k modem and WinCusto was unbearably slow. Loading those thumbnails took forever.

So I right clicked on them and just gasped, each thumbnail was nearly 30K. Display 10 of them and the thumbnails are 300K by themselves. Add another 80K in HTML and you're at nearly half a megabyte just for browsing a page.

We haven't found a solution for the objects and skins area yet though (lke WindowBlinds and IconPackager) since lowering the quality of the jpegs would really make it yucky.

Personally I think I noticed the difference when the server was revamped. Also, not letting icons load helped a bit as well.

Possibly this is from the server not needing to process the queries for the icons.

Anyways, the site is running and looking great. Thanks for putting forth the effort.

I'm running a 56k flex modem made in 1902 I think!
The recent improvements have made a vast difference to me, thank you guys. also, spare a thought for me....whenever I download anything, the maximum transfer rate that I get is a heady 3.5kbs per second. Does anyone want to contribute to the "Get BoXXi DSL" fund? aah, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on.

Apologies to non-Brits who have never seen "Father Ted", and will not appreciate the above posts.

Well, I'm not the slowest here then. 6k/s on my cable modem thing (yes, I know they're not supposed to go that slow), but most of the waiting time is pure parsing (damn tables). I have noticed a faster response though.

girls....drink....feck....
Erm...I have ADSL, which is rather nice compared to the 'orrible ADSL I had in Vancouver. In Van, I had a 0.5Mb upstream, and 1.5Mb down, apparently, even though I never saw close to either of those numbers. Here I have 8Mb down and 2 up, which is refreshing. And yes, I have noticed the speed difference since the upgrades, I'm not sure precisely when they happened, but I've definitely seen a big improvement at some point within the last couple of weeks.

1.4 Mb aDSL here. I noticed a marked improvement last week. Then everything got (relatively) slow again over the weekend. Now the picture pages are fast, but the message board is still slow (much slower than the end of last week). It takes between 12 and 20 seconds to actually respond to my request for it; it loads pretty quickly once that's done.

Plus, I can't seem to get my account to show the fullsize thumbs, even set to optimize for display. Must be a cookies thing. Now, to figure out how to manage cookies in WinXP...

Arg. Now I can't get the stupid Cosby "Picture Pages" song out of my head. Poor choice of words on my part...
