Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Might be cool.

I'm taking the wife to see "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" tonight some time. Wasn't this a comic book at one time? I don't know any background on it but the previews look kinda cool. At least I can expect some "heavy on the special effects" fight scenes. Hopefully it'll be kinda funny too. Just so long as it's not a %100 "Romantic Comedy" I should be reasonably entertained. Expect a review late tonight.

I'm seeing it tonight with some friends. Some of the casting for the movie really bugs me having read the comics but I guess I'll have to wait and see how it all plays out.

Yeah man. I was going to do my review when I got back but I got caught up doing stuff. AWESOME movie. It's almost like a Live Action video game at times. Some of the special effects are even pixelated on purpose to look like game affects. I missed one fight scene where he fights the chick when I took a piss and went outside for a smoke, but aside from that I caught the rest. Parts of it were really funny too. I don't laugh a lot at movies but this one had some good chuckles in it for sure.

If anyone out there likes fight scenes that are heavy on the special effects this movie is for you. Parts of it even reminded me of DBZ and it was better done than the DBZ movie.

"Scott Pilgrim vs The World" gets a Raven Reviews Score of 4 out of 5. Definitely a bad ass fight movie even if it is on the "Not So Serious" side.

Gonna have to buy this one for the DvD collection in a few months. :)

It doesn't look very interesting to me plot wise. Edgar wright is the man though. I will always cherish hot fuzz.

So it's clearly a crap film that really holds your interest.

Someone should PAY YOU to be a film critic.....;p

Honestly I don't think I would have gotten to do it at all if wasn't for the fact a chick that was in love with me had family that had been there for years. It was more or less them doing me a favor because she asked them too. It didn't pay much. I doubt really anyone read them except for some senior citizens. The Beacon is a small paper and most people here get the "Vollusia News Journal" and the "Penny Saver" if they get any newspapers at all. Newspapers are slowing starting to become a dying media these days except for the few top name papers like "The New York Times" and "The Wallstreet Journal". Then you get the tabloid rags that still sell in the millions. Local news papers all over the country for small towns and rural areas are on the bink of going out of business. It's quite sad really.

I really dug this flick - it had so much style and charisma. I did find though that the plot was a little weak - for such an original flick, I felt they should have delivered a more interesting storyline. However, from beginning to end the movie was a fun ride. I'd give it a 9/10 - best Cera movie since Superbad imo.

is it better than Kickass?

Ohhh that's a tough question. I thought both the movies "Kicked Ass" (pun pun pun) but I think I'd have to give the edge to Kick Ass because it was a super hero flick. Scott Pilgrim had a lot of old school video game nostalgia though so it's really a hard choice. Scott Pilgrim even has music from Zelda in the movie. Makes me wonder what Nintendo's cut was on royalties for this movie.

What I've seen of it so far strikes me as leftist, Canadian, metrosexual, Hollywood, conspiracy to dumb-down America crap; but I like videogames, comic books, and magical realism; so I'm planning to watch it as soon as I finish reading the books.

Sure you didn't mean laxatives right there??

Just thinking how it would give me the shits if....

Actually, I'm quite pissed at Hollywood myself.... for pumping out endless reels of mindless drivel and very little of substance.

Like somebody said to me recently: "Tie all the trailers together and you've seen the best Hollywood has to offer these days."

I saw it last night, and it was awesome.  I'm still concerned that the comic book might propagandize me, though.

If a comic book manages to propagandize you, you probably didn't hold onto whatever your beliefs are that firmly.

Not that gripping onto a belief system is a good thing. I generally think a flexible mind that sees the inherent subjectivity in reality a hallmark of smart people.

Also I'm glad you liked the movie.
