Other Games Stardock should re-make.

Other Games Stardock should re-make.

Games to be made.

I know there are lots of old school games out there, with more game-play than most of the new ones, they just need to be re-made right.

Here are some I can think of, off the top of my head:

WAR, INC.  (your a mercenary company.. includes stock investing, cloning troops, building an army that came with you from mission to mission, maybe the addition of a conquest map)

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/warinc/index.html

DOMINUS (just full of awesome features.. it is just a couple things short of being one of the most awesome strategy games ever)

http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/747/Dominus.html

CASTLES!  (an old castle building sim that took weeks of my life)

http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/402/Castles.html

BTW, I think most of these are abandonware.. soo you can download them free and play with dosbox.   just to get an idea of what they are. I still like them even with the dated graphics.

Anyone else have any great old games that need to be redone that I am missing?

Birthright : The Gorgon's Alliance. Was a cruelly overlooked gem of a game.

I was just talking with my friend about this game a couple days ago. How it was one of those rare games that combined campaign level warfare and politics with dungeon crawling. I also liked how they did the warfare, it felt like playing Stratego on the mini-battlefield. I still have the disk to it too!

That would be a cool remake though. The game concept was great and with some tweaks could be fantastic.

Quoting phazonfreak, reply 65I too vote for the already mentioned Alpha Centauri, a vastly, vastly underrated game. Even though it had some issues with the AI, graphics and a horrible exploit, it was the perfect continuation of the Civilization franchise and it offered something no Civ-style game before and after did: an actual story and thoughtful, challenging ideas.

It was deeply philosophical and with its rather grim view on human nature also pretty scary.

I always thought Alpha Centauri was a little miracle in the gaming world.

The atmosphere was incredible, perfectly conveying the feeling of being lost on an alien world, having to overcome environmental hazards, native wildlife, technological restrictions and the potential enmity of the other factions. Terraforming was literelly a (complex!) game within the game, giving you the freedom to alter the environment completely to fit your industrial needs, to alter it to build a green paradise on "earth", or even to adapt to it to the point of living immersed in the fungi. Or a combination of all.

The frank, un-idealized characterization of the leaders and their philosophies (not to mention the deepness and soundness of the quotes!), the perfectly logical intricacies and interconnections of the technological tree, the whole concept behind the world's setting... all made for a level of immersion that was, in my opinion, unprecedented and is still unparalleled.

End of mastroego's quote

Well, I could simply listen to all the quotes attached to every technological advancement in the game to be reminded of its marvel:

It's a good sign for a game if it is able to mix real quotes from real philosophers with the ones created for the game and you can't tell them apart.

I've had a lot of fun with the Planetfall mod for civIV. It's not a straight clone of Alpha Centauri, but as the creator, Maniac, discribes it;

Planetfall is a mod for Sid Meier's Civilization 4 that uses the storyline and characters from Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, combined with gameplay that takes the best from SMAC, Civilization, and the modding community.

Planetfall will not be a clone of SMAC using the Civ4 engine, but rather will incorporate the Factions, general storyline and Characters combined with the newest gameplay modifications to allow for more strategic gameplay.
End of quote

I haven't played in a while, but when I did I checked the forum daily to see if there was a new version, because Maniac kept improving it and adding new content. You know I might reinstall it, see what the latest features like the factions from Alien Crossfire are like.

Anyway, If you loved AC like I did it's worth checking out, http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=253775

Alpha Centauri and Planescape: Torment are likely the two games that influenced me the most during my formative years.

Wizardry

Old or new stories, don't care. Right now, only Japan gets new wizardry releases.

Had a lot of fun with wizardry 8, a very interesting storyline along with interesting play style.

I know it's not exactly a remake, but I would like to see a fantasy version of a Total war game. I know there have been some mods. Even a very good LOTR mod for Rome TW. I would like something of a cross between Dominions 3 and Total War Empires,  or even Elemental and Total war.

I just like that type of combat.

kohan KAG  was great (KOW not so much) and i would love to see something similar from stardock.  i am still hoping that timegate will do another KAG like sequel.  btw, this is not stardock but it is from an indy developer for all of you dungeon keeper fans:

One Sim game that hasn't been mentioned is Ascendancy, I loved how you could customize you space ship. It soft of a mix of StarFlight and MOO.

Imperialism II

Imperalism 2 was a great game, I even dusted it off years later to play. I remember being really impressed with the concepts of imperialism 1, but they never really came together and the AI was awful. But imperialism 2 changed all that and had a nice combination of being simple enough to not bog you down and for the AI to kick some serious butt, but to be complicated enough to give you a lot to think about. I still think games could learn a lot from some of the mechanics of that game.

Ultima IV

At least brad seems to like this game. I would add better tactical battle (a la final fantasy tactic) because in the original game, melee weapons were useless since you could only move 1 square at a time.

ragnarok

This is a pic of one of my favorite old games. A rogue like game called ragnarok or valhalla.

I would like to see stardock remake something like this.

I have fond memories of dying endlessly in Ragnarok as well. In some ways it was one of the harshest games out there, but in other ways there were usually ways around any horrible seemingly unfair death you might experience (though generally the way around it was something pretty extreme, like using scrolls of genocide to wipe unfair monster races out of the game before you ever had a chance to meet them). Traditionally though, roguelike games are created by hobbyists rather then businesses, there are still plenty of roguelike games out there being worked on if you do a search.

Not a remake... But GOD how I would LOVE to see some company do some kind of game along the lines of Dwarf Fortress. I absolutely love that game but can't stand to play it for very long because of the shoddy interface and lack of graphics. Wouldn't have to be pretty cutting edge graphics... but something animated along the lines of Roller Coaster Tycoon would suffice.

DRROOOL.

I want to say Star Wars Rebellion... but then again there is this series called Galactic Civilization... which kicks even more ass...

If anyone remembers Master of Monsters (could also be a mod, hint hint!) from the Sega genesis, or Star Control.  Either one would be sweet.  Im all for Dungeon Keeper too.

Stardock needs to do an updated, turn-based version of Pong for the new millenium.

did anyone ever play Netstorm? that game destroyed my freshman year of high school. it was released by Activision in 1997 as part of the 1st generation of multiplayer-over-the-internet focused games, didn't get alot of attention though.

Basicaly, the world consists of floating islands, you control your high priest and the object is the capture and sacrifice your opponents high priest. to do this you build bridges from a selection of random bridge pieces of various shapes and sizes. on these bridges, or on isalands you have connected to your main island, you build the various towers that deal damage to your opponents towers and buildings (its arguably the first tower defense game ever made). they com in different flavors for the 4 elements of the storm, like wind power had crossbows that could shoot in a 45 degree arc depending on which way your faced them, and thunder had cannons that were extremely powerfull and had huge range, but could only shoot in the direction your pointed them and you could only point them in one of the four cardinal directions (north south east west), and on and on.

multiplayer matches were great fun as players tried to out manuever each other with thier bridges to get the best angles of attack and defense, there was alot of depth to it, and a very unique setting. its currently available for free as abandonware, i think some awesome folks even keep some multiplayer servers running, though i don't know how many people still play. you can get it here, it had a decent single player campaign as well: http://www.netstormhq.com/news.php

Wow, never heard of Netstorm, just downloaded and played it. Thanks for the link, still an awesome game.

I'd like to see them do a "War of the Lance" remake with tactical battles. War of the Lance has one of the best ai's I've played against as well.

Seeing an updated Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri game would be welcomed also.

I'd also like to see an improved graphics game of "Sword of Aragon".

A game most of you probably never heard of but one of the most fun ones I played on a Commodore 64 "Heart of Africa". A stickman adventure like in search of Dr. Livingston only this is in search of the lost Ankh or ark. Updated with todays graphics in 3D and I might not play anything else as I played the life out of me with just the 8 bit stickman version. It placed the ankh in random places each game so even though natural landmarks were the same the digging locations were all over the map.

I don't know about "re-make" but FINISH..for me would be Guardians:Agents of Justice which was to be a turn based Xcom UFO style of game but with a superhero theme.

Microprose never got to finish it and kinda went the way of the dodo before I could finally get my hands on it and I had waited for OH so long.. :(

Star Control 2 hasn't been mentioned yet, one of my favourite old games ever.

Others already mentioned that I'd like to see:

X-Com (since the UFO games weren't very good)

Dungeon Keeper

Alpha Centauri

Castles

Mech-Warrior for PC (i.e without dumbing it down for the console market)
