Movie Boxed Sets as a Christmas gift

Lots of movies out there with two, three or more sequels.  Which one or ones would you like to have show up under the Christmas Tree as a gift?

Some of my favorites would be Die Hard, StarWars, Indiana Jones, James Bond or for something that's just a little older, Sherlock Holmes.  Oh how about the Godfather or Dirty Harry, this list could go on and on.  :sun:

So, what would you want?

What would give to someone?

I wouldn't mind the Stargate SG1 TV series boxed sets, 1 through 9.... and the Stargate Atlantis TV series boxed sets, 1 through 5.  Oh, and the complete X Files boxed set wouldn't go astray, either.

Ain't gonna happen, though, too many bucks out and not enough in.

For mrs starkers I'd get the boxed set of House, the TV series... or boxed sets of classic British comedy series, such as: Are You Being Served; It Ain't Half Hot, Mum; Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em' Mr Bean, etc.

Just as long as it's not the Batman Anthology 1989-1997. The 89 Batman was great, but the series went steadily downhill from there.

Wouldn't mind having seasons of 24.

I already have those... was gifted them for my 55th birthday.

Fringe is another boxed set I'd like... when there's enough episodes.  It's along the lines of the X Files, so it's the kind of conspiracy stuff that I like.

Star Wars ftw! :w00t:

I'm hoping to get Lord of the Rings extended box set and Farscape the complete series.

Here's a tip for those of you who buy standard DVD's and have yet to switch to Blu-ray.

Lately all of the Blu-ray's I've bought on sale were cheaper then the standard DVD equivalents and the standard DVD came in the Blu-ray box as well as a digital copy.
It looks like the industry is trying to consolidate DVD's and Blu-rays into the same package to save on distribution costs.

Keep this in mind when buying new releases as it may be cheaper to buy the Blu-ray edition instead of the standard DVD, as long as the standard one is in the package as well. The plus to this is when you do make the leap to Blu-ray, you will already have some in your collection.

Good advice, Cars.

I'd love to have a set like "Hollywood Squares" and "The Newly Wed Game"...the funniest episodes.

I would also love to see The Thorn Birds occasionally....so many to choose from! Like Hill St. Blues, Mt. St. Elsewhere. Great series.

I missed that one in my post. BSG-TOS and BSG (new series) are a must.

I prefer the older British comedies, myself.  Some of the newer ones are not my cup of tea, though I don't mind 'Little Britain' now and then... they portray some funny characters, like 'the only gay in the village"

I wouldn't mind boxed sets of anything with Ronnie Barker in it: Open All Hours and Porridge were two of my faves.  I'd also like a boxed set of 'Never the Twain' with Windsor Davies and Donal Sinden; the entire 'Blackadder series with Rowan Atkinson and... the 'Dick Emery Show'.

I don't know offhand if a couple of old favourites are available on DVD or not, but they can be viewed on YouTube: 'The Worker' with Charlie Drake, and 'The Plank', with Eric Sykes.

As for movie boxed sets, well I've got a few of the movies already mentioned, but I'd like:

Pirates of the Caribbean (obviously) :-"

Species (all of)

Lethal Weapon (all)

The Hidden + The Hidden II

aint you missing one main one, oh wait make that 2 Home and away and A Country Practice
End of quote

A Country Practice boxed set??? Not flamin' likely! The repeats on TV are bad enough, but hour upon hour of it with that insipid, annoying and strait jacket inducing theme music... NOT in this flamin' lifetime!!!!!

:-" :X

k6   What a great series until alcohol took it's toll. Too bad, that because I loved the series. I'm in the same position as you regarding having the whole series.

I own nearly 750 movies, so it'd be hard to find me something I want.  :)  But I haven't got the Clone Wars Season I on Blu ray yet!

Just watched the new Star Trek BR the other night... pretty sweet.  Much different from the old school Star Trek.
