Still no 64bit support...???

I got Object Dock Pluss almost a year ago.   I was running vista 64 at the time, and it worked except for Start and Sys tray.  Startdock kept saying they were working on it, and please be patiant.  I started betta testing Win 7 soon after, and was daul booting Vista and Win 7.

I did not what to transfer my Object Dock to a betta OP, so I just went and got Rocket Dock for my testing.  I soon moved full time to Win7, and now that it is officaly released, it is on all my machines.

So I reinstalled Object Dock on my main desktop, and to my shock...STILL NO 64 bit support.

What the heck...???   It has been over a YEAR now.  Rocket Dock runs in 64bit (even tho they say it is not totaly supported) just fine with no limitations, AND IT IS FREE.......

Come on guys, 32 bit is on its way out.  Most all machines sold today are 64 bit.  You really need to get this done.

Firstly this isn't actually the right forum for this (this is the Object Desktop forum not the ObjectDock one).

I believe you need to install ObjectDock via Impulse to get the latest updates which I believe included 64 bit OS support.

Moved post to the ObjectDock section.

Thank You Hankers.  And i did install Impulse Neil, and downloaded and installed all updates.  But I will look again.

Make sure you enable show prereleases on the Impulse Orb Menu (top left)

Ok guys, I have done all that.   The only thing that shows up Is Object Dock Plus last updated 10/24/2008.  I see NO betta versions at all...for anything...

The ONLY build I see is 1.90 Build 535u.

So if there is another build out there for 64 bit...I sure as heck am not seeing it >:(

Not that it helps anything, as the latest available version is the "stable" 1.90.

Somehow ObjectDock Plus changed the "last updated"-date to 11/11 today though... With nothing really updated.

I am using Win7 Ultimate x64 version and ObjectDock plus 1.90. All works OK, with the exception of Start, where I get this weird "not supported system...will be available in future...". I, too, think that x64 systems have been out for a long time now and most people seem willing to install them, mainly because of memory advantages. Therefore, I think that Stardock have not given the required attention to the software. I wonder though, what will they have to say when the subscription renewal period will come!!

ObjectDock Plus doesn't have a subscription renewal period. It's a stand alone program that you purchase by itself. If it gets updated to version 2 and you have 1.90 you will have to purchase it again. If someone has just purchased it and it's updated to say 2.0 than a free update may be given if it was purchased a short time prior to the release. Remember there are a lot of programs that Stardock has and updates are being worked on along with bug fixes. I also would like to see a version 2 be available but no sense in getting upset because it's not here yet. I would think that when most or all of the programs that are part of Object Desktop are completed the others that they are going to support will be worked on.

What DaveBax said is more or less true. ObjectDock 2.0 will feature full 64bit compatibility. It should also be noted that the ObjectDock product page does not list 64bit as being supported.

That's true. But when I bought OD+ 64bit support was in beta, and that was advertised. That was pretty much the only reason why I took the step and bought it. As it turned out, I ended up with no official 64-bit support at all, but it's not the first time I buy something that has bullcrap written "on the box". The difference from other stupid buys is that I'm likely to be the "good idiot" that pays again for the same product to get what I wanted (and was promised) at the time of the first purchase...

EDIT: And it doesn't really change much if Stardock makes the update free, I'd still be that "good idiot", just that Stardock wouldn't exploit it... I don't know... Thank you Stardock for making me realise that about me? ;)

No matter what you or anybody else points out Stardock will spin spin spin so they don't look bad or mis-represented anything. It's never their fault. That's how they do.

Perhaps they updated the build that sits on Impulse to include the correct Weather docklet, instead of users having download a fixed one separately. That's just a speculation though. There's no official changelog (version history) beyond the 1.90 release.

Thanks for giving us a sneak peek into ObjectDock 2.0 and I don't mean it sarcastically either. The fact is that it's almost a given, because consumer 64-bit operating systems have been on the market for almost 5 years and it's very likely that the next version of Windows will be 64-bit only, so if software developers don't release 64-bit compatible software then they will be frozen out.

On another note, it's really "clutching at the straws" behaviour when you have point to the requirements page and 64-bit not being supported. People won't ask for miracles and if the market doesn't supply the 64-bit OS then there won't be an issue. 64-bit has been mainstream since Vista and now with Windows 7. Just like Jeff said, OD is seriously lagging behind with the times. I hope that Stardock won't try to "sugarcoat" the current state of things.
