I posted yesterday an hided "control request" about uploaded icons in the Misc. + pngs in OD Galleries called "Firefox Midnight"

the original skin was only re colorized ( a 2 minutes "midnight" color effect)
there is no mistake because the "author" answered this way :
"frankell: I don't know Ken Saunders; this image is a re-worked replica of the image from Mozilla's website. I'm sorry if it appears otherwise."

after 24 hours I found that only the rating was changed from 4 stars to 3 stars !!
Consider that the same "author" also uploaded  "Thunderbird Midnight" + "Sunbird Midnight"
I know the 3 programs are open source but the artist who created the official Mozilla graphics deserve some respect !!
I aspect all the skinners support + some action from WC Moderators !!

I think if there is an issue you should probably pm a moderator instead of posting publically :)

Just because you don't see any activity does not mean there isnt any.
Often it takes time to check things out.
Sometimes what looks like a "rip" is better described as "fan-art"

I suggest taking this to PM with a Mod.  Jafo is the best at this sort of thing.  There's no need to publicly claim someone ripped another's art.  It could be a mistake, it could be that they have permission, it could be that you are just wrong.  Handling in privately prevents anyone from being embarrassed.

Wait . .and be patient.  Please.

The "author" already admitted he made a skin "re- worked replica from mozilla's website"
please can you explain what you mean for "fan-art" + PM with Mod

There is another icon already in the gallery identical to the icon from the Firefox website from another user.

Simply put, if icon A is designed to open program A, then it is fair use. After all, that is what the icon was designed for.

While your principle may be laudable, putting it into action would result in the need to remove the majority of dock icons. Dock icons are just facilitators - they open the program they were designed for, and that is all.

pm = private message. Keeping things private avoids unnecessary public debate and possible false accusations. It is also not good to post such things on skin comments.

PM = Private message.  At the bottom of every forum you can find a moderator to PM
"Reworking" can mean many things.

In any case . . this is not the place to debate it.  It's being looked into.

I cannot understand why when I uploaded my first animated icon with only "my credits" to the Ken Saunders artwork it was rejected because I needed a written permission
(AW that was the occasion to start a beautiful correspondence with him)
and now all this comprehension for a re-colored skin:
quote from "Skinning Icons" tutorial:
Very important: Recoloring or skinning icons does not change the original author's copyright, nor does it make such icons yours. If you recolor or skin an icon that has not been made by yourself you may not upload or share a recolored icon without the original author's permission.

"It is also not good to post such things on skin comments."

BTW I edited (in a lighter way) my comments on the skin in the external link
