Awesome Jack.  I've been off them over a year now and couldn't be happier.  You will be amazed at how fast you will start to feel better.  The urges WILL hit you, but they lessen in duration and intensity over time.  We all will be pulling for you.  Not sure what Noah will be pullin' though. :-"

Sorry I missed this one, Jack. Good for you.

Smoking is something that is obviously very hard to quit - but it can be really easy if you believe in it. In fact, just say to yourself, "I am not a smoker." Your mind will adjust, and before you know it - you'll forget about smoking.

Best of Luck, vStyler - you're making the right choice (though I still smoke, but I'm not really hating it right now..)

V's done it...hasn't smoked since Jan 1 2008....it's Skinhit who has now embarked on that road.....and hopefully Po' will hit the road again soon...

this thread has become a great place to drop in for inspiration...and/or support...to give up.... :)

and you're right..it's in the mind....you have to get to a place where you truly want to give up....to succeed...

Had my last cigarette on New Year's Eve. Dont miss them a bit. However, I do on odd occasions smoke my pipe. Bought a 50gm pouch in June and I'm about half way through it! Guess I should cut out the pipe too, but I read recently that pipe smokers (occasional ones that is) live longer than non-smokers. Any truth in that Doc?

Absolutely!

But only when there's no tobacco in the bowel, or....if the tobacco in the bowel is never lit.

Sorta like the ultimate diet: You can eat anything and as much of it as you wish. Just don't swallow.

The tobacco goes. The empty, well cleaned pipe stays. Thanks Doc. Free medical advice. Whatever next!

I smoked for 35 years.  I tried repeatedly to quit and always failed in the end.  Then a good friend of mine, a smoker, got throat cancer.  He had his larnyx removed and was left with a permanent air hole in his neck.  He had to talk with a machine.  After visiting him in the hospital, I threw away the fags.  The key for me was sufficient motivation.  Best of luck.  I hope you make it because I'd like to be still downloading new VStyler skins twenty years from now

Congrats v... I tried to post this earlier but only got the "Egads" timeout. You've done a very difficult thing and deserve respect for that.

Syd, I hope you've succeeded as well!

Even the effort should be applauded.

After 16 years, I've finally started the process of attempting to possibly quit smoking. Last week I ordered some nicotine patches and as of this past Monday, I've smoked between 1 pack to 3/4 of a pack per day. I know it doesn't seem too impressive, but, before Monday I was smoking two packs a day.
