[BUG] Influence ZoC invisible when map colour themes run out.
Version: 4.1.1 (Steam), Windows 11, AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX
In a Gigantic game with 32 factions plus minor civs, the coloured Influence ZoC is invisible everywhere, from turn 1
for the whole game. The territory itself is correct: the hex grid colours and "Hide Grid Outside Influence" show
the real borders by showing grid only there.
What causes it:
- If you make a custom faction that shares a map colour theme with an existing faction, the game assigns a new
colour theme to one of them (the AI faction; the player keeps theirs).
-For the new colour themes the game only uses a pool of stock factions themes that are NOT in the current game. It does not use the generic colour themes (Teal, Yellow Green, Dark Green, Yellow, Blue, Purple, Grey and the other colours), even when they are unused.
- Each time there is a duplicate colour theme on a custom faction the game consumes one stock colour theme from the pool. In a 32-faction game few stock factions are left out, so the pool is small.
- When the pool is empty, the game assigns a faction the "Brown" colour theme that all minor races share and from there the game breaks: all the Influence zones turn invisible everywhere in the game and empire borders and map colours can no longer be seen.
Example, 32-faction Gigantic game with minor civs, four custom factions sharing a stock faction's color theme:
- my faction on "Yor" -> the Yor AI gets Mimot
- custom AI faction on "Nyx" -> it gets Slyne
- custom AI faction on "Phalenoid" -> it gets Manti
- custom AI faction on "Terran" -> no free stock theme left -> it gets Brown -> Influence ZoC invisible
To get a working 32-faction game, don't use any map colour themes on custom factions that the core or minor
factions use.
I have turn-1 saves of both the broken and a working 32-faction game and can share them with the developers if
needed.
