WHY was the thread locked?

WHY was the thread locked?

Why was the 'Does anyone read the rules ?' thread locked?

What happened to no more locking threads?

What happened to all that was said, not 4 months ago?

The point is we WANT people to be able to have different opinions.

But here's the point: In an OPEN community such as ours, we have the right to disagree. Do I make myself clear: You have the right to an opinion and someone else has the right to disagree with your opinion.

I think you have every right to voice your concern.

the point isn't whether I agree or not, it is that we have an atmosphere where people feel free to voice their opinions

We want to have a community site in which people are free to *discuss* issues that concern them

close the site before I'd allow it to become a place where only "valuable members" get to have a say on how the site is run.

If someone disagrees with a policy of the site, a decision of the moderators, or has a problem with a user, let it be discussed civily and openly without someone commanding others to adhere to their demands lest they take their things and go. Because that time is over now.

There was a conversation taking place. At the very least, some people got to blow off steam, but it was a conversation with no threats that we were told we could have openly and freely in the forums.

honestly it would be better to delete the thread rather then lock it...locking it will only kill server space while deleting it will free up some server space...

'server space' taken by a thread such as this is negligible.  Deletion is much like skin upload rejection/exile, it/they are simply removed from public access but remain on the server either way....

There is another option to threads that go array,"the admin post a warning reminding those in the thread that things are way off topic and if such activity continues the thread will be locked" ,if the thread is not too bad the offending, flaming posts can be deleted then a warning put up to stay on topic or else, tho however this can only be done if the thread is not too long into the crap slinging as the admin do have to get some sleep therefore are not around at certain times to can the crap so to speak..lol.. ,the afore mentioned is what happens in some instances on the sony playstation site AU when things get out of hand and in some instances threads are locked or deleted depending on content of posts

That would have been a better option. The point of the post was " Does anyone read the rules anymore? " and was directed at members not reading or knowing the guidelines/rules...not Admin/Moderators.

You pesky little fairy,,see what youve started.
You know full well you can criticise, abuse, and mock any commoner for weeks on end but never ever pass comment on the powers that be, otherwise the wrath of the frog will come down on you like a ton of bricks, you're thread may (will be) locked, you may suffer demotion, and last but certainly not least....do do do do do do.....exile! Oh well, if you dont like the treatment you can always start your own site.

You also know that there is no such thing as RIPS, just innocent mistakes and misunderstandings. Why would you expect the average commoner to know the rules when clearly the admins haven't got a clue either.

Cheers and beilky.

I have a clue when to shutup and I didn't, and I apologize for my behaviour....No excuses, I just blew it.

Sorry to all that I offended.

Everyone has bad days, and when that happens you need to look in the mirror and ask yourself if you have been fair to others. Your words can hurt and statements made in writing can be taken out of context. I too have bad days and have said or done something that I regret. The answer to this is to say I am sorry and not to make it worse. Maybe a day or two to think would clear your head, if it doesn't then take the problem to a proffesional. Attacking anyone verbally shows you do not care for others or their opinions or feelings. This could also be something you do in life and cause you to lose friends. I would hope you would think a little before you submit a comment to anyone. Life will treat you as you treat others, if your life is a mess then maybe it is your attitude that needs to be looked at. Depression could be a factor, your job stress, family problems. Please try to be kind. It really doesn't take much to say or do the right thing and remember, " you are not alone" we all do and say stupid things and should regret those things that hurt others and say so.

Just my opinion

If Boss's level hasn't yet been re-instated, I for one am for it. From what I hear from other skinners he is a very good skinner.. and as has been said.. everyone has an "oogey" day at one point or another. I vote for burying it.

Therefore your access level has been reduced to visitor until you show genuine regret for your actions.

Would have thought it should already have happened.....maybe just a weekend oversite....

...and all around good dude and teacher.....

Back to topic....
Part of what lead to this had to do with RIPS, fan art, copyright info, etc....

I have to ask, unfortunately...

A while ago I submitted a wall that featured 'my' version of the Deviantart logo and the 'Fella'...not cut and paste..my own interpretations. It was rejected and I recieved an email asking me to kindly get permission from DA to use the images. This happened with my 'Fella Cursor', and I got the permission and re-uploaded. With this wall, I just said the hell with it and let it go. Because I don't understand. I understand they are logo's, trademarks, copyright, etc. But, here is why I keep bringing this up.

Isn't it also fan art? Just like Captain America and Green Lantern, who's images, costumes and logos are trademarks and copyright protected? So where is the permission for these windowblinds? I may not know about DA, but aren't the license permissions for DC and Marvel characters and logo's bought, purchased, and granted for use? For example..Toys, games, Burger King's right to paste Spiderman on a paper cup...companies pay to be able to use those images and names. We couldn't upload WB's of college football teams or pro-hockey teams...and SD had to get permission to do so in order to 'sell' them. And where does the word 'fan' apply better than in sports.

How is all of this defined? I get frustrated when the rules seem to apply here but not there..or to this person but not that person. Are they clearly stated somewhere and I am just missing it, because I know you all have to be frustrated hearing me go on about this. When is it fan art and NOT copyright or trademark protected?

because I know you all have to be frustrated hearing me go on about this.

Yes....

'Fan art' is a legal argument, not a right and is about as good as the lawyers for the company demanding their property protection rights.

Same goes for 'fair use'.  It too is not cut and dried - chiselled in stone, but is an interpretation open to argument.....[keeps those lawyers employed].

This being the case, each and every website attempting to apply/abide by such wobbly rules does the best it deems appropriate.

What that means is by and large it/they become the sort of decision that the site members must grin and bear, or, if they so presume superior acumen regarding said interpretation/s they are free to create their own site and publicly extol its virtues of copyright/fair-use/fan-art/trade-dress/reg'd trademark/logo handling as an example to all.

About the only thing that IS definite...is that when contacted by the company concerned, any requests for content removal will be heeded [provided such request is seen to be unilateral and not confined only to Wincustomize.com - something which did occur with Kol's Vista WB - originally]...
