A question about Spy's

I'm just wondering about the function of spys and how they work.

In addition to shutting down various improvements and gathering information, can they also commit acts of sabatage and instigate rebellions?

Also, can they be used to help aid in corruption so that they may not get as much money as they like, or even divert some of its funds to your treasury?

Spies that you keep in reserve can be used to nullify ai spies on your planets.

When you place one of your spies on an AI planet's improvement, they negate that improvement's abilities. Very useful if you can drop a bunch of them on an enemy's manufacturing capital and factories, for instance, or to negate the benefits of his Tir-Quan Training if you were negligent and didn't build that first.

Keeping a number of spies active on one faction's planets will slowly yield the same espionage data you got in DL, too.

That's about it, however. There is no destabilization capability or anything like it.

Also its best to use alot of spies to disable an enemy Buildings. (IE work 0n economy) because after 2 turns the AI will use all its Spies it has in reserve to kill yours, then if you place more the ai will only get 1 spy every 4 turns or so to kill just one of your spies.

It takes 10-15 spies to bring a civ to its knees, as long as you can survive his first counter spy attack on you, you will hurt him bad.

Learn to use the apostrophe and more complicated subjects like "use of spies" may come easier.

I'd never call you an "ignorant frak", "illiterate tard" or a "filthy fraktard" because I'm above such things.

I find the presumption that English is the primary language of all participants involved in an internet forum entertaining.

Especially when that assumption is made solely to point out the presumed lack of intelligence in someone else.

That's irony.

Wheeloffire, the answer to the question nobody asked!

You're wrong.

Irony is Anna Nicole Smith fighting tooth and nail to steal money from a corpse only to become a corpse herself shortly after winning.

That's irony.

Geez Wheeloffire, where is the love? There are constructive ways to help people and then there is your way. Please be nice, I'm sure you would like people to be nice to you!

Oh, and no, spies can not destroy another civs structures, or divert money to you. Basically they can:
- Nullify enemy agents on your worlds
- Stop a structure from being effective
- Over time provide intelligence on the civ they are used on

Sorry for getting off topic!

thanks for your help guys  . Oh, and just ignore Wheeloffire. My first and primary language is Spanish in any case.

Someone needs to look up "irony" in the dictionary.

Irony - noun
1. the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend.
2. Literature.
a. a technique of indicating, as through character or plot development, an intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually or ostensibly stated.
b. (esp. in contemporary writing) a manner of organizing a work so as to give full expression to contradictory or complementary impulses, attitudes, etc., esp. as a means of indicating detachment from a subject, theme, or emotion.
3. Socratic irony.
4. dramatic irony.
5. an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected.
6. the incongruity of this.
7. an objectively sardonic style of speech or writing.
8. an objectively or humorously sardonic utterance, disposition, quality, etc.

and how do you detect that a spy is on one of your improvements ?
Is it automatic ?

Upon entering an enemy improvement the spy formally sends a request of sabotage to the enemy player, explicitly stating the type and position of the improvement he would like to sabotage, but not the agent's origin. Upon recieving acknowledgement of his planned actions he may then procede to shut down the improvement. The enemy may react by sending one of their own spies to the site with a order of resuming productivity, upon which both agents, your own and the enemy spy, quit their jobs and go home.

That's about how it works. A spy is always and under all circumstances immediately detected.

You may not be able to instigate a rebellion but you can aid your efforts in promoting one through the use of spies. You can use spies in combination with your influence (planetary, galactic resources, and starbases) by targeting leisure improvements.

I keep wondering what spies actually are to not give away their origin. I keep getting this mental image of a Drengin planetary governor...

Gov: "So, you've captured a spy, huh? Excellent. Now if we only knew where he was from."
Aide: "Well, he's metal and keeps calling our interrogators 'meat creatures'."
Gov: "Surely, there must be SOME way of knowing who sent him!"
Aide: "And he has 'Made In Iconia' stamped into his ass."
Gov: "Maybe if we researched some way of reading captives' minds..."
Aide: *facepalm*

Regardless of what language someone speaks, to come into what is basically an 'English' speaking forum and then post... you should really consider the proper use of the words and if you should even post at all. Maybe a search will yield answers to a certain question, thus allowing you to 'not post' if English gives you a hard time.
I know damn well that the French absolutely hate trying to deal with Americans when we are on their soil and cannot communicate with them, almost like they assume that we should know French if we wish to go there, ahem, hint, hint. I don't speak Spanish so I don't participate on Spanish speaking forums, it is that simple. I get tired of hearing how non native English speakers feel 'flamed' for improper use. Quit making excuses and learn the grammar then, if not, be prepared for some abuse. All Wheeloffire and other Nazi's such as myself are trying to do is salvage our language from heathens!

edit: and also point out that ignorance is no excuse

Wheel, ES, there's no need to berate non-native English speakers.

Aide: "Well, he's metal and keeps calling our interrogators 'meat creatures'."

Obviously he's an HK Protocol droid, meatbag.

Nice to see that you compared you and yours to the French and Nazis.

Saves me the trouble.

How? Exactly what would you call it? Satire? Are you really that stupid?

Go tattoo "FRAKTARD" to your forehead. I'll pay for it.

can some one please help me im really stuggling and i dont understand the espinage about DA i fnd my self being bombarded by spys I dont know how to remove them and there really messing with my productin and i read that u can do the tech counter espinoge and i cant find it , and can some tell me how to get these agents , thank u very much and if some one can give me a real good explanation it will be apriciated thank u

Darky, to remove spies you need to have a spy. One spy will Kill another spy. You do this from the espionage Menu (it's in same area where you check your taxes sliders).

So if you have 4 spies and the enemy attacks with 8 you can only kill 4 of them. (same rule for the enemy AI). And you have to wait until you build 4 more to kill the other 4.

To get agents you have to allocate spending to Espionage. Its under the Military, social, research sliders. You can only allocate 25% of your Income.

It matters how much money you spend into Espionage but you can average about 1 spy every 4 turns if you spend enough.

Is it ironic when someone corrects someone else on the use of the word irony when that someone else is actually using irony correctly, and the corrector is himself incorrect?

I wish someone would post a definition, what a pickle.

Okay, after some reflection from yesterday, I feel I must 'apologize' in a way. Forgive me Wheeloffire, but I've got to do it... please don't banish me from the EoS!
First let me say that I have a strong sense of 'Nationalism', not racism as some would see it, so please don't go there. So when I see deterioration of our language, culture, or whatever you wish to call it, I might get a little miffed. Since both sides of my family came from 'the Old World', Italy and Ireland, I was raised with those ideals when it came to the family moving here and becoming 'American'. Back then it was about really becoming an American, both culturally as well as philosophically. This was why the indoctrination ceremony was held so near and dear to so many immigrant's hearts. They were becoming a part of something bigger, an idea larger than themselves. Whatever they could bring to the table to better our existence as a country was welcomed, and they wished to share it. This is one reason I sometimes perform as a Grammar Nazi, even though I screw up from time to time in my grammar and it's proper use.
Second, I am used to Wheeloffire's attitude and strangely enough do enjoy seeing him in action. Couple this with the fact that he's been mia for a while, and well, I guess I missed his style. So for me to see people jump on him (and trust me I am not a fool, I KNOW Wheel doesn't need my help with anyone!) I attempted to 'come to his defense', even if I wasn't that successful (seems my 'flaming' power has waned a bit in the past few months). I guess what I am getting at is people should learn to have thicker hides than they sometimes do, regardless of who is right or wrong in the situation.
Third, this is where Wheel is going to puke, I do feel an apology is in order on my part to all of those who don't speak English as their native language. I cannot speak any other languages so I do have to give credit to those of you who can. English is one of the toughest ones out there from what people say, and all the little subtle 'uses' can be quite confusing, even for a native speaker. I often forget or overlook this fact when reading here and need to remind myself of this more often. So again, apologies to all the 'foreigners' who participate here. I somehow underestimated the effort that comes with speaking more than one language and give those of you who can proper credit for being able to do so.
Finally, for those of you reading who are native English speakers... you do know that you are still on the hit list, probably now more than ever since a portion of the community has now been absolved of their crimes, at least by me.

The problem here started with the apostrophe. It doesn't take much skill in English or general effort to figure out that an apostrophe indicates POSSESSION not PLURAL. "Non-native" is no excuse. I'm not waltzing into Romanian forums with questions that are simply stupid at face value and then compounded with purposeful illiteracy. The non-native speakers have a little more leeway but they are still targets as far as I'm concerned.
