Weather docklet fails to update on boot because net not available yet

Because my wireless network connects after ObjDock launches, the weather docklet fails to update weather information. Requires manual update. Is this a bug? I see no option to change the update frequency or select an option to wait for network availability.

I have several docklets (not weather tho') that rely on a network connection. They just come good when the network adapter starts. I'm on a notebook & when I hook up to my corporate LAN it can take up to 2 min for the LAN adapter icon to initialise & the OD+ docklets still have no problems.

It could well be a docklet bug, but there's a million weather docklets to choose from - why not try to find one that works & use that instead?

Since this one comes with ObjDock I am assuming it's a bug?

Works fine on mine like I said on your other thread about this...the bug may be on your end.

It does the same thing on my desktop if I unplug the ethernet cable, boot the computer, wait for everything to come up and then plug in ther ethernet cable, the weather docklet does not update the weather info unless I click on it and select update. Two computers same behavior?

So why not ditch the internal one & find another that works like you want and maybe even looks better or has more functions?

It's not like you need to pay for them...

standard weather docklet on ODfree = approx 12 minutes to self update after dial up connected.

Ahhh, so it's working as designed.

I guess some people are so impatient to know what the weather is...

Personally, I just look outside - or more preferably *go* outside

Cable...8 seconds after boot.

Go outside? Man, that's asking a lot.

I am having problems with mine too. But it's definitely not a connection issue since several other computers on the network load the weather docket just fine.

The computer that doesn't load it has Norton Antivirus while the others have McAffe. I'm guessing that is the issue. I can't seem to figure out how to adjust the firewall setting with Norton. Any suggestions (assuming it's the firewall)?

haven't had Norton in a while - put in the firewall settings look for stardock products like object dock, dxwidget, etc and always allow access

Both of these have been known to cause problems to many people in the past with internet-connected apps/widgets (eg Natural Desktop, DesktopX RSS widgets etc) judging by past threads in here.

While that's all lovely, it updates after 20 mins. So what am I disabling that automatically disables itself after 20 mins? I think not the issue here.
how often it updates is in the script somewhere - trouble is, once a docklet is created unless you know how to take it apart and put it back together you can't change the 'when to check for update' time - the DTX objects/widgets are easier in that regard cuz once your in builder mode you can can access to modify it.

It's probably set to initially check for a connection as soon as it loads, if no connection detected then wait for x minutes.

So what am I disabling that automatically disables itself after 20 mins?

you lost me on this one

if you set OD not to automatically load on start up, then after you connect to the internet & then start OD - how long does it take? you may have mentioned it already, but I'm not seeing it

Disabling firewalls which some how enables weather? Not the issue when in displays after 20 mins on it's own. This "is" a bug in the docklet (provided by SD), but gee how do you contact the author to say why is this so?

How about a delay of 2 mins after OB+ launch and then have this docklet go and get weather? Let's just ignore the manual process procedure when again, it is a bug in OB+.

In a perfect world every one is perfect. Gee, time for a dose of reality.

These issues are why many themers have left this product.

Humm??

Time for another dose of reality.....live with it or find something else. I don't see a bunch of others complaining about the problem. Quit whining...

The purpose of this forum is to bring issues to the forefront to be reviewed and addressed. "It doesn't happen to me" does not address an issue nor should it be an excuse to justify poor product quality nor should this forum be used to belittle and demean others that "are" experiencing this problem.

If I was in support, your "attitude" would be enough for me to not help you..

If a docklet or plugin is working as designed, it's not a bug - but it may be an irritation

Even though the channel is Stardock Support - it's basically a user helping user forum (even says on the here

Most of us are used to using things created by others. Some are excellent, some not so much. The technical level of the creator ranges from Einstein to Troll. Some are masters at what they do, some are still learning.

At this point, after reviewing through pages of forum posts it appears the 'issue' of the delay doesn't really bother a lot of people. It's just not that important to us. If we really need to know the weather we can go outside, keep weather.com as our homepage, buy our own weather station, build our docklet, whatever.

and yeah docklets and objects and widgets and such that need internet sometimes do have to be allowed in the firewall (depending on firewall and settings) in order to work.

Remind your self’s of that the next time a Windows service pak disables more than fixes the feature set. Microsoft usually explains it as an "anomaly" that impacts a minority of users that use that feature set. Let me make it clear if you did not understand the first time. EVERY Apple MacMini owner that uses SD under bootcamp XP suffers with this SD weather docklet problem.

I guess that DOES put every Mini user into a minority, so why bother. While where at it lets tell every SD developer who create Apple Skins and Themes targeted for Mini owners, to not bother.

I don't work for Stardock...but I'm pretty sure they don't do much testing of their apps on MacMini's under bootcamp XP, if at all.

They can correct me if I'm wrong...but why bother?

I'll be sure the convey your sympathy on the Apple.com forums.

I could care less. I'm just a happy Stardock customer running a PC...and the Apple.com forums shouldn't care what I think either.

I have to disagree as I just booted into my Mini and the weather updated just fine.  I run every Stardock program on my Mac Mini as well and never had any kind of a problem.

If you want to report a problem then feel free to e-mail support@stardock.com wtih a detailed explanation of your problem.
