I don't recall blaming anyone for my financial situation. I simply stated in so many words that I need a browser with a lighter footprint. Firefox has indeed become bloated. Again - think before you type.

IE7 is using 55Mb with one tab open, FF 24Mb with one tab open

My pc is currently using 445Mb in total - or about 1/8th the way up the scale

How is firefox bloated? I use it all the time and it never slows down or lags...starts up in a snap...I have no complaints whatsoever.

One thing I can't manage without is DownThemAll! When moderating I can set links going in rapid succession to download all the stuff I need. IE + WC locks up doing rapid downloads...

Last night I downloaded 4Gb of game demos, dTa ran flawlessly as usual.

If anyone is interested Flight Simulator X is pretty tasty

Oh, come on. You spat "I will not be upgrading to 2.0"... You complain that 1.5 uses too much ram, but you won't upgrade to the most up to date version? Sounds like you are making a statement there to me. If someone said that about Windowblinds you'd be right in the middle of the mob jabbing them.

I have one gig of ram and I use firefox WHILE I play MMORPGs that eat 600megs plus. I use it while I use photoshop and premiere, which creep way up into the hundreds as well. I dunno what you are doing with your machine, but if 60 or even 100 megs is more than you can bear... well, like I say, the problem isn't with the devs.

More likely you did what you accused me of doing, not thinking before I typed. If you have a machine with less than 256 megs of ram running xp, then MAYBE Firefox might be tough, but honestly IE can do as badly depending on the content.

P.S. If you allow, say 128 megs for firefox, that's what? 20 or 30 bucks worth of RAM on a bad day? Have a garage sale, mow a couple of lawns.

I only have a gig of ram.. and I never run into any issues.. even when I have so many programs open the taskbar is useless

Most of the major browser (IE7, FF, etc.) are using well over 50mb. If you want something with a low footprint, then maybe a text only broswer is the way to go.

My FF 1.5.0.7 uses 80 MB 45 or so (only after browsing a while does it get up to around 80) when I first load it. Each new tab (depends on content of the tab) uses about 400 KB - 1 MB more to the total. On a bad day FF only gets up to about 120 MB ram (from my 1 GB). No slowdown, and works great.

I shall upgrade to FF2.0 as soon as all my must have extentions are ported/debugged .

When FF auto updated from 1.5 to 2.0, I noticed the RAM meter was rapidly counting down the available/remaining RAM...from just under 3gigs right down to only 420 mb in a few minutes....

I put it down to a dodgy/corrupt installation and rolled back to 1.5 before manually downloading/reinstalling FF 2.0....works fine now and loading pages a lot quicker than before, currently using only 50 mb of RAM with one tab open - IE7 with one tab = 56mb.

I prefer FF to IE, so I'm glad it was a minor issue and easily resolved.

First of all I don't use Windowblinds anymore. Let's get that out of the way. I haven't been using any SD apps for quite some time. To lazy to install them on my soon to be gone XP machine and my other machine is all Linux.

All I have on the new machine is 256 megs to work with of the OLD PC-133 SDRAM. So having any browser, even IE, suck up more than 40 to 50 megs is not worth it. I am currently using Swift Fox. Light footprint. I'll probably end up using that or Konquerer.

I don't like using IE any more either. addicted to the speed, stability, extensions and tabs of FF.

BTW: the old SDRAM costs a bit more than that.

Just upgraded. All my extensions work. Its a beautiful thing. Running smooth, fast, and uses about 60 MB... been browsing for 3 hours. This is nice .

Also a quick note, the built in spell checker is my best friend now... I LOVE it and I am sure everyone else loves that I have it when I make posts
