Your dumbest Gal Civ blunder

As the title says... What was the dumbest mistake you ever made when playing Gal Civ?

This happened to me today. I was playing as the Drengin, and had just designed my 'Kona Class Mk2' ship. Except I mispelt the name. So I thought 'no problem, I haven't built any yet, I'll just upgrade the design'. So I did so, switched all my production to the new design, and went on my way.

A few turns later, and my grand armada is assembling on the Iconian border. Just as I am preparing to give the order to attack, I notice something strange. 0 attack in all categories. Is this a bug?

Nope. It's because when I upgraded the design to correct the spelling, I forgot that all the weapons and other stuff would be wiped... Needless to say, the underling responsible WAS exterminated.

Fortunately, I was already winning by miles, and I spotted the mistake just before the war started, but I came oh so close to sending a massive fleet of unarmed suicide ships as an assault force.

When I transfer my Galaxy-Conquest skills from Gal Civ to the real world, the first thing I'm going to change is this forum code.

I was going through, burning off excess cash by buying upgrades for my colonies (taken during a war, in which most of the improvemtns had been destroyed). I didn't realize that I had misclicked on all the colonies (not paying attention in general), and I ended up buying about three multimedia centers per planet (with about 4-5 planets total, it was a huge waste of money).

Another was when I designed a new ship to for a massive war that was quickly coming, so I put all my planets into production of it, and bought a bunch to make up the arms gap that had existed. War starts, i launch my ships to assualt thier massive empire and intercept thier multiple incoming fleets, when I realized I hadn't put any engines on them! Needless to say, it took quite a while (and heavy losses) before problem was resolved.

I mis-read a constructor fleet thinking it was a different one and sent it the wrong direction. Not only did I lose a couple of resources, but it ran into an enemy fleet also. I didn't have to execute the fleet captain.

I started playing one night at 10PM ....knowing I had to get up at 5AM.....

i still havent figured out how to use the waypoint pilot govenors i dont like huge maps so it never was a real concern ... then i did try to toy around with some starbase setups and clicking all those constructors became very annoying
but i didnt find that auto waypoint button ...
btw can anyone tell me where it is ?

LOL Last night as a matter of fact.

Went to upgrade all og my Large Hulled Ships to ones with better engines and weapons.

So I moved one out and clicked upgrade. Checked the box to upgrade All of this Type, and hit upgrade. Woot only a week and only $19,000. Damn that rules.

Next turn I send one my my new "Uber" fleets at the enemy. Pwned hardcore.

Turns out I upgraded ALL of my Large Attack vessels into 33 speed 15 sensor SCOUT SHIPS... Guess I clicked the wrong ship type when i upgraded

ROFL DOH ME!

I had just defeated the Dregin Empire, a long war during which I had supplied their other enemy, the Torians, with nearly all my uber-tech to keep them occupied. Successful, I sat back and waited. Five turns away from an influence victory, I figure, "What the hell," and send in a fleet to take a minor Torian world. I hate having more than one empire own part of a system. It looks... untidy.

Not only does this mean no influence victory, five turns later the Torians strike back and take a major world with a much larger fleet. They didn't have that during the Dregin war... and somehow, they've manage to research an awful lot since I gave them my stuff.

Needless to say, I managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

I was a victim of unknowingly having two fleets selected at the same time (I hate this). Went to move the desired fleet, and by doing so mistakenly moved my unprotected fleet of four transports right next to an enemy planet. It was an easy kill for the AI. I was a little upset, but had full confidence that the AI would not take advantage of this. I was right, the AI did nothing and continued its strategy of never moving anything ever. Not even to attack four defensless transports. Well, it should have been a blunder.

hopefully 1.1 will fix this

Clicking on the Obsolete button instead of Upgrade. I've done that a few times and it is really annoying that there's no way to undo such a simple mistake.

After having gone on a delete binge to remove some ship designs I no longer desired to clutter up new games I became so used to clicking yes after each delete, that when I obsoleted a design for defensive fighters (of which I had perhaps 50+), I clicked yes again.... which decommissioned all of them leaving many many worlds undefended.... yikes! Fortunately, the AI didn't pick up on this in time for it to become a major issue. Also, fortunately, I always research the heck out of soldiering bonuses

The administrator responsible for this problem resigned and saught a position with less possible danger as a result of errors. We do not kill people for mistakes.

I was playing on tough with a medium sized map as the iconians with 9 other players and it was near the end of the game. i had defeated the Yor and Drengin after they destroyed the Korx. I was allied with all the remaining races except the Altarians, who were very powerful militarily. They were "cool" towards me so I had to destroy them before i could win. Because i had just finished the costly war against the drengins i decided to soften the Altarians up before attacking directly.

I couldn't persuade my allies to attack them because they were to powerful so I decided to bribe the Altarians into attacking my allies instead. It worked but i had forgotten that if an ally, in this case the torians, was attacked, i had to help them or break the alliance. So i had to declare war on the Altarians. But they had also allied with other civs (the Draths and Terrans) so when i declared war on Altaria, they declared war on me even though they had been my allies as well. So then the rest of my allies came to my aid and declared war on the Draths and Terrans in return.

Basically it was like I had assasinated Archduke Ferdinand and started a world war. Or i guess a Galactic war, with myself, the Torians, Thalans, and Arceans on one side and the Altarians, Terrans, and Draths on the other. It was pretty damn cool but it took me a lot longer to win the game. The Arceans and Thalans ended up getting destroyed early in the war but the torians and i managed to counter attack successfully and win in the end.

I was preparing for a massive invasion from the Drengin and upgraded all my ships. Problem was I upgraded them all into colony versions with 0 attack and 0 defense that I had gotten from a ship pack.

I of course upgraded them all to their rightful stats the next turn but ooo did that put me in the hole.

Ahhhh, my favorite mistake!!!! Sleep is overrated anyway!

erm..... what would you think of using cargo hulls for ALL your fighters? It took me a long time before I figure out that it wasn't me being weak!!

I guess that some others made the error. It took me HOURS to see that since I got few fights in the beginning (and then suicide armadas )

Shhh... don't tell no one but I once gave away my homewold ... was testing out the trade screen when I first got the game and didn't realize I had clicked the planets area. And of course as soon as I saw the text go green for the trade I hit send.

Wait... let me rephrase...

I once had one of my flunkies who was learing to use the universal translator give away our homeworld. Needless to say I dumped him into a pit of sharks with laser beams.

Mine would be utterly and hopelessly bankrupting my Empire on the fifth or sixth turn of the game. I had the option to build one of the truly early Galactic wonders and for giggles I clicked on the buy button to see how much it would cost. After being appropiately impressed I absent mindedly clicked away... or so I thought. I am certain you can all guess what happened. Yes... I was the proud owner of an early and fairly useless at that point galactic wonder and was so far in debt I made the US deficit look miserly in comparision. I could not build ships, research or build improvements on my planets, just sit there clicking the end turn button sadly while around me the computer built up its fleets and planets.

To add insult to injury the turn that I finally paid down the debt enough that I could start conducting normal economic activity... one of the AIs declared war. Followed by a second one the very next turn. A third was hostile and making menacing remarks via the trade screen (asking for credits in return for peace... as if I had any left). With the computer rampaging through my planets and my mighty fleet consisting of the survey cruiser and two scouts I thought it was time to heed the old saying of discretion is the better part of valor and restarted the game.

All in all it was not my Olympic moment.

I started my first game ever on tough difficulty with no bonuses to diplomacy and didn't research any diplomacy. I figured I'd just do what I normally did in Moo2 and kill everyone one by one, unfortunately the AI in GCII is much smarter and needless to say it was a quick game.

After redesigning my colony ship to start the game I decide to obsolete the old design and accidentally click yes when it asked if i would like to decommission my initial colony ship.
The officers responsible where set on fire, then exposed to the vacuum of space. A little messy perhaps, but the mistake was never repeated.

Ouch... I did that with the Drengin when I was first playing the demo. I was beating them down, but then I got the two sides of the diplomacy screen mixed up- I thought I was asking THEM to surrender before my military might...

First game I played, I tried flipping a minor race. Researched all the cultural influence bonuses, and built as many cultural starbases near his world as could.

I think my best one was planning an advance into enemy territory against ships that really outclassed me. I intended to build a whacking great military starbase to give me the edge with a huge stack of constructors i had, but I messed up the order in which I moved ships and was not able to build the base in the safety of the same square as my largest fleet.
It was costly, but I overcame

I also accidentally downgraded a ton of ships once at great cost by accident

it wasnt my blunder, while playing for some reason my tresury went to negative 2 billion BCs plus... Pretty much ended the game for me right there.
