Your dumbest Gal Civ blunder

Your dumbest Gal Civ blunder

As the title says... What was the dumbest mistake you ever made when playing Gal Civ?

This happened to me today. I was playing as the Drengin, and had just designed my 'Kona Class Mk2' ship. Except I mispelt the name. So I thought 'no problem, I haven't built any yet, I'll just upgrade the design'. So I did so, switched all my production to the new design, and went on my way.

A few turns later, and my grand armada is assembling on the Iconian border. Just as I am preparing to give the order to attack, I notice something strange. 0 attack in all categories. Is this a bug?

Nope. It's because when I upgraded the design to correct the spelling, I forgot that all the weapons and other stuff would be wiped... Needless to say, the underling responsible WAS exterminated.

Fortunately, I was already winning by miles, and I spotted the mistake just before the war started, but I came oh so close to sending a massive fleet of unarmed suicide ships as an assault force.

Omg I was playing the Iconians and owned almost the enire galaxy, Was busy selling off my old battleships to the Korx and the Terrans who were at War with each other, made a bundle of dough by fueling each of their war machines, Of course while ammassing my large armadas of superior ships on each of their borders preparing for my blitzkrieg. And then a mimor race appears in the game The Vegans, I was like Rofl. SO I decided to demand they surrender their homeworld to me at once, funniest thing is I made the mistake of hitting Surrender button...and Lost the game Once I realized that Almost pulled my hair out... then hit the Reload button more the wiser.

Not checking the Foreign Stats before declaring war on the losing Torians, it I had known they had alliances with the "bigger boys" I wouldn't have gone into a losing war.

my moment was more in the naure of a 'bug' that was compounded with an amazing amount of stupidity on my part later.

i have played the sand box mode for a few weeks now, had all the enemy AI reset , everything from racial pics to their colors. i play mid size maps and allways play with the torans, drengi, yor, and altarans, and swap out the 5th and 6th place enemys at random, depending on my mood.

ANYHOW. i finaly decide to try out the campaign. no troubles i played the first map and noticed that the altarans were up too their usual trick of building 200 million influance starbases. something ive noticed that they do alot.

ok anyhow, i decide to go back to the sandbox. so i just click through, got my usual starting civs and i change the arceans to korx so i can get another evil civ in the mix. (after not being able to kill altarans SBs i want another target this game) ohhh and i change galaxy size to large this time too with lots of planets n such.

click play, the galaxy forms and to my supprise im not in a horribal starting posistion so i proceed to play as is. within like 30 turns the whole galaxy is covered and i do mean COVERED with altaran colonys. hell they even have most of the home systems secondary planets colinized, INCLUDING mars. im have a mega WTF moment but i just shrug it off. i go on my usual tactic of supporting the underdogs against the major player till im ready to make my move, ......... nothing doing, within 150 moves its me and my 7 planets against the altarans however many on a large galaxy........ it wasnt pretty.

i reload a new galaxy , with almost the same results. ok i think to myself maybe its a fluke only on large galaxys so i move back to mid size. basicaly the same results but this time the altarans dont have quite so many planets. i had a good rush and ended up with about 1/4 the galaxy so i won but i still couldnt figure out WTF was going on with the altarans.

next step, re-install the game. i was SURE that i had a simple bug, so i reinstalled, and reset all the races and colors and such, then as im selecting the civs, i naturaly had to reset their AI level.............. then it dawns on me. i quickly load the campaign and start the first mission. quit out and sure enough, the altarans are set to brilliant. and the rest of the races are set to dumb as mud (cept the drengi but they were only as dumb as rocks not mud).

it just never crossed my mind that the campaign would change the sandbox settings. talk about feeling stupid, im thinking that somehow the game had managed to reset MY AI level till i reloaded the game since i never noticed it till i was all but beat over the head

Two major, but funny blunders for me:
First was when I started the game and started to dabble in designing my own ships. I just assumed that I could take any base hull, add weapons and armor, and voila a killer ship. Needless to say, my heavily armed and armored 1hp cargo fleet got its a$$ handed to it...oops.
Second blunder was when I was finally dominating one of my early games. I had the last major enemy (don't remember who) in diplomatic discussions and was milking him for all he had. I wasn't yet overly familiar with all the demands and offers, so I selected "surrender" thinking I was demanding his surrender. Well, that was a short-lived victory. My wife was wondering why I was laughing so hard.

I am always pressing the "end turn" button when I mean to press the "done with planetary screen" button. The "end turn" button is right there, and so easy to press. For a long time, I had the problem with the "end turn" button disappearing, so that it was always there when I didn't need it, but it would vanish when I did.

After spending 30+ turns building up a border with the Altarians in our own "Cold War", I finally decided to start things up by taking down a constructor+escort with a lone fighter to keep it from making a mining starbase defendable. Then I accidentally double-clicked the "Done" button on the combat screen and skipped the rest of my turn!!

Instead of picking my fights and taking out his 40+ fighters with my 50+ fighters, he got an opportunity to take down about a dozen soft targets instead.

LOL bladevenom I did the SAME EXACT thing!!! I was so pissed off that the minor race world wasn't flipping to me lol. Man that was a discouraging introduction to the game.
