Yesteray, Yvonne got the CT scan of her hip and thigh. We are hopeful that this will reveal the reason for all the swelling she has had. Meanwhile, she was started on the Duragesic patch. This provides much better pain control, so she is able to be more active. She gets blisters
I suppose the frequency of posts to this blog is inversely proportional to how well I am feeling. Since I feel better, I post less. Yvonne say a back specialist last week, who told her that the amount of pain she has is expected. That seems like a waste of time, but it wasn't. Her PCP thought she should not have as much pain as she does. Now, with the expert's opinion, the PCP is more comfortable prescribing enough pain medication. The specialist also ad
I've been getting lazy in my blogging. It is time for an update, definitely. Today is the third day I'm out of the sling. Sort of like when I first went back to work, I feel ok at the start of the day, but pretty sore by mid-afternoon. There is less intense pain, but more of an aching/burning kind of a pain. This probably is associated with the healing process. I am workinjg on improving range of motion. So far, I can get my elbow almost completely straight, and can raise my arm about 75
On Saturday, I went to lunch with the Senior Editor of Die Nienamdsblog <span style="font-family: times new roman, times,
Joeuser was inaccesible for a few days. So, I wasn't posting. I just realized it is back up. One bit of advice. If anyone wants to start a serious blog, they should either use a paid site, or use one like Blogspot. Blogspot automaticay e-mails a copy of all of your posts back to you. That way, if the site goes belly up, you still have a copy of all your work. It the interim, after the Joeuser site came on line again, and I didnt know it yet,
I new did find them; I had to buy a new pair. Thanks for the thought, though.
Today was busy. I went to work, then left early for my doctor's appointment. Then I took Yvonne back to the UM for her appointment. I was told that my arm looks to be healing as expected. I am to start PT. I still need to wear the sling a lot, but can have it off for short periods of time. He basically ratified what I already had started doing. Yvonne was told she does not have an avulsion fracture, alt
Today is supposed to be the day I can take off my sling. I did that, and found that I cannot extend my arm fully. It hurts quite a lot if I try. I also cannot raise my arm more that about 30 degrees. I've lost a lot of muscle mass in my arm and shoulder. So, I am going to keep using the sling when I go out, and some of the time at home. Without it, it is hard to remember to not try to extend it all the way. Yvonne is getting bored, more so day by day; she really can't do mu
Thursday is one of my favorite days. That is because I go to Albion in the afternoon. Hardly anybody bothers me there. The students I see are -- generally speaking -- fairly well put together, don't have crummy insurance that gets in the way of what I am trying to do, and they all get better
The biggest challenge for my right now is that I am getting really impatient. I have a new DVD recorder and would like to transfer some old home movies to DVD's, but I can't because I can't install the new drive. I also would like to install aa front-mounted firewire port, but I can't do that either. We got a new prefabricated barn for the horses. It was delivered today, but I can't put down bedding or rig a cable to hold the doors open. So, the horses can't go in. (The barn was made
Thank you. I think I used a font, Comic Sans Serif, theat you minght not have installed. If you can't read it, then other's can't so I will go in and remove the font reference

OK, it is Sunday evening. I got home from the hospital at about 6 PM, not too bad. Yvonne found out that the last pyment we got, which wassupposed to settle the lawsuit, bounced. That was for about 22 thousand dollars. Althugh the settlement fr for only about 2/3 of what we actually lost, we he all prepared to be content. But for the last check to bounce, well, we are not happy. We are fixing to file a complin with the state, since he has a contractor's lincense, and start fore
I mentioned before, that once anyone finds out I was injured by getting thown off a horse, I end up hearing the other person's story about how they or someone else also almost got killed or whatever by getting thrown or kicked et cetera. Now comes a story about someone kicked by a horse, who was saved because of a BarnCam®. http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/internet/01/16/horse.cam.ap/index.html <
I noticed that my ranking amongst joeuser blogs has been climbing steadily. This is now the 64th most popular blog on joeuser. "Go figure" as kids say these days. It is hard to imaging anything more boring to the general population, than how Joe's and Yvonne's respective fractures are healing. <img src="http://www.med.umich.edu/opm/newspage/images/UHexterior.jpg" title="" alt="" style="width: 250px; height: 188px;" hspace="5" vspace="5" align
A couple of years ago, we went horseback riding on Mackinac Island. That was an uneventful trip, almost boring in fact. Here is a picture from that trip. Notice that I was wearing a helmet. I think I'll get one and wear it from now on. Could be useful in team meetings and
L ast night, I slept without the band that holds my arm in place. I woke up with one of the straps on my sling in the wrong place. It had slipped out from under my forearm, so it was actually pulling my arm backward. I noticed some discomfort. I drove Kevin to school. By the time I got there, I was pretty
Yesterday was the 14th day after the accident, so I got to take off the immobilizing band that held the humerus up against my torso. That gives me a little more freedom. Now it is two mre weeks with the sling, then physical therapt Jackie went back to college in Battle Creek. The person Yvonne hired to take care of the horses came today. Yvonne has been getting a bit more active, but still can't walk very far, or lift anything more than a sandwich.
This is a picture of the three-inch long Euprymna scolopes
It now is 12 days since Yvonne and I were deposed unceremonially from our steeds. My doctor said that I have to use a immobilizing band to keep my right upper arm against my torso. This is in addition to the sling. The band stays on for two weeks. That means just two more days with it. I can tell that the time frame is about ri
This was my second full day back to work. It we went fine. Of course, I'm starting to get tired of explaining to everybody what happened to my arm. When I explain it, of course I then have to then listen to the person's story about how they, or some relative or another, got thrown off a horse and almost got killed. This appears to be
I did go in to work today. No problem really, althought I did have some mild pain and general discomfort by the end of the day. Also, everything takes longer to so, so I'n not very efficient. On the bright side of things, our unit in the hospital had very good attendance figures, probably the highest in a decade. It did seem kind of busy, come to think of it. It is going to be hard to keep up with the paperwork for the next few weeks.
