Yeah, this is one of my first years since '98 that I haven't renewed my OD sub.
stephenv
Fyi, I did try to uninstall/reinstall and saw the same behavior.
Neil's gonna give me the "we don't do windows beta's" speech but I thought I'd just put a note in that yesterday's update for the Windows Insider "beta" channel has a problem. Changing a DeskScape will result in explorer.exe going into a crash loop.
Is working for me
3.1.3.3 is running fine on my current windows 11 build
I fixed it by unchecking windows 10 translucent support
Topic says it all. Deskscapes and Fences do some "funky stuff" when HDR is enabled on a 4k monitor. Notably the background screen that fences uses to appear as a blurred transparency for the live wallpaper is garbled. You can see that the garbled mess is coming from Deskscapes though as even if Fences is uninstalled, Deskscapes still shows the garbled interface when UAC initiates.
I'll bet WallpaperEngine can do it... *ducks
Weird issue - cursorFX , Lucite Cursor. Ever so often, will go to highlight a window and the entire application "closes" not sure if crashes or closes. Outlook, Skype for business both affected. Going to try disabling shadows. 3 monitors, 4k, hdr....2x Titan RTX
I have the same issue , opened a ticket..
Just a quick note that if you are using MSI Afterburner , make sure you put an exception into RivaTuner Statistics Server for DeskscapesConfig.exe and set OnScreen Display Support to off. The application (Deskscapes) will quit unexpectedly. I suspect it has something to do with the preview overlay. Cheers.
sadly, I still see the transparency issue on 16251.rs3
Neil, Seeing it on my unsupported release, suspect he is fast or slow ring too. The taskbar is transparent regardless of transparency settings, start 10, or default start menu.
Thanks Neil, That's why I didn't open a support request.
Neil, faulting dll appears to be thumbcache.dll uninstalling windowsfx had no effect.
Needed this for a vmware workstation bug fix. There is an unknown dll crashing every 46 seconds if windowblinds 10.6.2 is running. You can see it in process explorer. Taskmanager does not show the crash. The performance hit is HUGE.
Got rid of the flicker on mine by setting Darken screen when controlling another computer.
Thanks for being the voice of reason Jafo. It must be frustrating when MS makes such drastic changes. I'll be patient.
Object Desktop was once Stardocks flagship, I guess they are making a lot more money off of games. I suspect 2016 may be the first year since 1998 that I don't renew my OD subscription. They used to have beta's ready before release of an OS.
okay, Definitely not windowblinds, I've been adding applications from Object Desktop one at a time over the last few weeks. I've narrowed it down to shadowfx. If shadowfx is installed and I start using VMware WS 11.1 heavily. My PC will reboot. I know it doesn't make sense, but I am staying stable now with shadowfx uninstalled. edit- shoot, not shadowfx either. Still need to narrow down more. definitely went a week with all OD items uninstal
I'd agree normally Neil, and it's likely the graphics drivers. Removing Windowblinds keeps it from happening. The reboot is instantaneous, no blue screen, no memory.dmp. It didn't start until the most recent release though. I've also run a full memory diagnostic to rule that out. I'm just putting this out here in case others run into it. Like I said, my money is on a Nvidia driver incompatibility of some kind.
G750jx + window blinds 8.1 + vmware workstation 11.1 + full CPU load + memory usage over 19 GB = instant reboot. Have tested multiple times can reproduce consistently
So I went into the webex folder and added exclusions for all 20 exe's. Now I don't hang my taskbar
Neil, I'd be happy to host a webex and show you the problem.
I can't run a webex and WB at the same time without crashing my taskbar.
