You may be over thinking this, but just for sake of argument lets say that one technology depends on another being developed. Sometimes new techs have side effect uses and the Gauss Cannons benefit from new Auto Cannon developments. In other words, tech can have other uses besides what they were developed for.

I dont ever get any slowdowns of any kind, the game runs great no matter what is happening on screen or what buttons I am pushing (Alt, etc). FRAPS shows me running 75FPS most of the time and it can dip down to 60FPS in large battles. I have everything maxed out as far as settings in the game go. Windows Vista 64 (Current on all MS updates) Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 EVGA 680i Mo/Bo (Latest BIOS) 2GB Corsair SLI RAM (2x1GB) Geforce 8800 GTS (640MB version) C

Game runs great for me on a Vista 64, Core 2 Duo and Geforce 8800GTS system. And dont bother listening to the trolls that bash Vista, most of the time its guys that dont even own Vista, so they only repeat dogma that they have read and dont really know what they are talking about.....its quite pitiful really.
More debris, more breakage! Wrecks drifting in space, even Freespace 2 style capital ship destruction would be awesome. More / greater effects would be awesome. And undoubtedly possible using DX9. However, just make sure they are adjustable in the menu and not permanent changes. That way, everyone wins
E

I understnad about making the game as playable as possible across as many platforms as possible, but there should be options for those that have higer end rigs to get better graphics. Dx10 does not have to be added from the beggining. Lord of the Rings Online added Dx10 graphics months after the game launched. So DX10 can still be added to Sins. Turbine could make some sort of high resolution/partical effects, etc pack to download and install as an option.

While I did not play in Beta, I perused plenty of screen shots prior to buying this game and they looked pretty good. I have a high end rig so I cranked up all the graphic settings to max and while the graphics are ok, they are not as jaw dropping as I expected them to be. Ships blowing up suddenly go from undamaged models to chunks of rubble in a flash rather than breaking up slowly as I would expect. Is there plans for graphic updates or a DX10 executable/options?

I just bought a copy as well. I am a long time Stardock customer and love playing GalCiv games. You wont be dissapointed and the cool part is that years from now, you can still download Sins and play anytime you want. Stardock lets you download games that you have purchased forever.
