I've noticed this a lot. I've seen minor civs with 3 influence bases in their home sector and 1 in each surrounding sector. I've also seen major races with influence bases deep in foreign territory where their effectiveness is almost zero. I can't figure out why the AIs are building these since they don't do much and waste resources.

Same thing happened to me and it totally ruined the entire balance of the galaxy. I was doing so good, I was peaceful and powerful. All of a sudden I get dragged into a war because of an alliance. I didn't even take any of the enemies planets and after only a few turns they give up and give all there planets to the next most powerful civ after me. It totally wrecked all my borders which I thought was strange since I had the lead in population and influence. i thought my borders would expan
I love the ship designer too. Like I said before it is one of the coolest custom features I've seen in a strategy game. There are so many options! I know it probably isn't as big a deal to every player but for someone who really enjoyed GalCiv I it is an awesome feature to be able to design unque ships instead of always having to use the generic core vessels.
In my current game I haven't seen an anomoly in about 200 turns. They were all gone after about 60 game turns.
How much of an impact does population have on influence. In my current game I represent 60% of the galactic population and have a LOT of influence. After some of the lesser powers declared war on me and started to lose they immediately handed over all their worlds to the 2nd most powerful civ, I guess to spite me. What happend next is weird. The 2nd most powerful probably doubled in size after the handover, but their population and influence still did not match mine. The
I would probably destroy them. Then if you real don't want war try and talk your way out of it afterwards.
Well, all I know is COLONIZE IT! In my current game I neglected to colonize it because there were so many better planets around. Later after my neighbors the Torians got desperate for colonies they landed on Mars. Of course it immediately went into civl disobedience, so they started moving a constructor into the system which I assumed they would use to build an influence base to maintain control of Mars. Naturally I delcared war and decimated every Torian for 4 sectors. <img src="
Here is a link to the thread: https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=161&AID=102198 I didn't pre-order the game either, I downloaded it on the 21st but I was still able to get the CE content. So don't give up, it's worth a try. Even if you can't get it you aren't missing out on that much. The only things it adds are about 14-15 new ship components.
Check out the thread "Collector's Edition Special Content" by Avatar Frogboy on the GalCivII News forum. There is a link that will take you to a page where you can register (which would have happened automatically if you downloaded the game) once that's done there is a file you can download which will enable the CE content if you are eligible. Hope this helps.
I always start with a huge or gigantic galaxy. Space is supposed to be BIG.
What happens when you get into a battle? Does it run normally or is it glitchy?
Totally agree. I've been like a junkie all day at work waiting to go home and continue my domination of the galaxy. Sounds pathetic but this game is just plain fun. I've completely forgotten about Civ 4. THANK YOU STARDOCK!
No matter where you start and no matter how isolated you are the best advice I can give when you begin is to start studying propulsion. This is usually what I always research first. By doing this you increase your speed and range right away. It helps you get a leg up on exploration and colonization in the early game. After 3-4 propulsion techs start researching other things.
I like to have habitable planets on common, rationle for this is to make the ones that appear more valuable. I put stars into tight clusters for more realism and space between them (like real star systems) i usaully set anomalies either common or abundant, depending on how much help I think I'll need. Lastly I always use the largest galaxy possible. Afterall galaxies are big places plus I like the game to last awhile. Where's the fun in taking over a galaxies that was 12 star systems. I wan
I've only been playing my game for about 9 hours but I already have access to more "stock" ships than the ones on your list. None are very good. I've got a stock "starfighter' and "troop transport" but I haven't used them. In short, as you progress along the tech tree you do gain access to more "stock designs" but so far the ones I've gotten don't compare to the custom ships I've created.
If I downloaded the game on Feb 21 is that considered a "pre-order"? Does that mean I got the Collector's edition or normal edition? I know I got the "Bonus Pack". On the start screen next to the version # it says Bonus Pack so I must have it. Just wondering if I have Collector's edition content or Normal+Bonus content??? There so much content I'm going insane! This game is GREAT!!!!!!! Thanks in advance.
This has probably been covered but since I can't find it i have to ask: Is it possible to use designs created in one game in a new game? If so will they just appear in the build list as technology becomes available....or what? I'm still on my first game and I want to know if all the work I put into customizing ships is permanently saved.
From an avid Galactic Civilizations player: After barely scratching the surface on this game last night I can say that it is leaps and bounds better than the first game, and I loved the first game. It was great being able to download, install, and start playing this game with nearly no time spent trying to learn how to play the game. If you liked GalCiv you'll love GalCiv II. It has everything that was good about the first game (improved) plus tons of great new features.
I was able to design a pretty effective colony ship earlier on (about 12-15 turns into game - side note I've only played about 45-50 turns). As the Terrans I researched propulsion until I discovered Ion engines. I then designed a colony ship with one colonist module, two Ion engines, and 2 or 3 basic life (can't remember the exact amount) support units. The ship is about 3x as fast as the core colony ship and has about 3x the range.
There are two choices at the Stardock store. Order the download or order the download+CD. The forms are probably the same so even though you enter your mailing address they probably won't send the CD. Mind you I'm just speculating. I did the download and CD.
I downloaded the game last night and it's GREAT! I only got to play for a few hours and I didn't have any significant problems but I have a couple questions. 1) The first time I started the game an Error box appeared stating that my video card (ATI 9600) drivers weren't up to date and I didn't have DirectX 9, however I know that I do. For whatever reason though after clicking ok the game ran normally??? Just wondering if this happened to anyone else. 2) When you start
I was wondering how you rotate the camera, I must have missed that part in the instructions. Anyway the game is great, better than I could have hoped. For once a company kept everything that was good about the first game.
