Quoting bonscott, reply 2 As for Skyrim, the HD textures need the 4 gig of RAM which 32 bit doesn't allow. The most common reason for HD texture crashes (Vanilla, no mods) is not enough RAM and 32bit system just doesn't allow enough. Don't worry, that's the reason, not mods. When using HD textures DLC Vanilla it crashes at the same spot in the intro video when the their speaks. That's a
Is this a home built system? I find it strange that a retail 64 bit machine would have 32 bit Windows 7 installed. As far as Skyrim is concerned: I have almost 400 hours played. You should get better performance with 64 bit Windows, but the forums don't indicate that 32 bit Windows is an issue. Skyrim is a native 32 bit application, so you won't be gaining there at all. All of the Crash To Desktop (CTD) issues are related to&nbs
Great thread. Civ 1 was the reason I bought my first IBM based PC. Loved all the Civs with Civ 3 and Civ 4 being my favorite. Civ 5? No thank you. It's terrible and a waste of money, glad I never bought it. Only way I'll pick it up is when all the DLCs are out and the whole package is at least 80% off on Steam for like $10. Even then I probably won't get it because they killed the series with 5 (IMO).
Currently on Windows 7 32-bit. I've had a couple driver issues so a wipe and re install was in the works anyway. Skyrim seems to need 64-bit to be able to properly use the HD textures without crashing and more games are looking to support 64-bit so I might as well make the jump. I want to format the drive (as I always do with a re install of the OS) and install Win 7 64-bit clean. I have the 3 license Win 7 Upgrade pack. Now when I ori
I love F2P as a concept for MMO's and online games. I'm not so sure when it comes to a "traditional" game like GalCiv or Elemental how it would work. DDO (Dungeon and Dragons Online) is a great example of F2P. My wife and I play this game on and off with a couple friends. Game was nearly dead when they swung for the fences and went F2P which saved the game. They also have a subscription available for $10 a month (or less). The game itself is free
I would honestly pass on it. Obvious overclocking attempt as someone else posted and you don't know if you overclocked it wrong or too high and fried something to the point it isn't stable.
Used WinAmp for many, many years. Now I actually just use Google Music (I think it's been renamed to Google Play or something like that). Free (obviously) and you can login with your gmail or G+ account. You'll download a small app which will upload all your MP3's to "the cloud" and then all your music is now available anywhere via Google Music. Pretty sweet and a good backup actually for all your music. If your PC crashes you can download all your
Dang, it will require Origin. I forgot that EA is going this game and I am so done with EA after the travesty that was Dragon Age 2. And then Origin is just another nail in the coffin. Must....resist....EA.....
Quoting James009D, reply 3But seriously, what class aspect didn't you like? The use of them at all! It took the focus away from what, for me at least Simcity was always about, city building. I didn't want or need to have to play a social structure sim. I want to build, not manage social inequalities. Maybe it's just me, but that's what i hated about it. Cities XL follows the same path, which is why i still have 3
Yea, no idea what you mean by obvious monsters needing two people. I just killed everything, period. I usually played the chick and if I got overwhelmed I would just phase out which would damage the crap out of the mob, heal up while phased, then phase back in while in the middle of the mob which would send out a huge lightning shockwave which would usually take out whatever was there and I'd just mop up the rest with SMG. It's all about the build. The RPG aspe
LOVED Borderlands and played it twice thru SP only. Never even tried to do MP as I hate MP. One of the best games I have ever played, in my Top 5 all time. B2 will be on my XMas list for sure.
If true I will jump for joy! The Cities XL series have been really disappointing.
Well in may not be exactly with Oblivion but rather that the steam version broke a community script extender enhancement (OBSE), which many mods are built on top of. I think someone eventually made a version for steam but I still see some confusion with modding issues with the steam version on GameFaqs.
Correct, however Valve worked directly with Bethesda and the OBSE authors and patched the EXE over 3 years ago so that OBSE
Sounds good to me. I can't even remember the last game I bought at retail. Plus there are *NO* PC games at retail anyway. Walk into Best Buy and all you see is WOW, couple shooters, a wall of SIMS and that's about it. Seriously. No way would either Rebellion or Fallen Enchantress get any shelf space outside of maybe 1 or 2 copies if you're lucky. Retail for PC games has been dead, dead, dead, for a while so don't sweat it at all.
(though what I know about the Steam version of say Oblivion isn't encouraging)
Ummmm, what's wrong with Oblivion on Steam? It's fully modable just like the non-Steam versions. Heck, Bethesda even went back and patched up both Morrowind and Oblivion so that the Steam version were fully modable. Skyrim also is fully modable and even has the new Steam Workshop built in. Games these days
Those that have been around a while will know that I was a Steam hater for years. Then Stardock sold off Impulse and I refuse to ever do business with Gamestop so I had to look at Steam as an alternative. So I downloaded it (had used it way back in the day but that was 2 computers ago) and it ran fine. Heck, my old account still worked and I could immediately download Orange Box games I had from 4 years previous. Nice. Anyway, I bought a couple cheap games and
Is it *really* that hard for a kid to get a part time summer job. Man, I started working when I was 11. Local farmer would pick me and the other kids up at 6am and we'd pick Raspberries until the afternoon. Made like 35 cents a quart. I'd then make 75 cents a bucket later in the summer climbing up in cherry trees picking the cherries that didn't come down with the picker machines. I hit the "jackpot" when I was 12 and was stuffing newpaper inserts
Yea, I haven't played it since Christmas. 2 months straight and I needed a break. LOL I'll probably dive back in this summer or when the first expansion comes out.
Chrome fixes all Firefox bloat/speed issues. :D Seriously, Chrome blows all other browsers out of the water, it really does. And most of your favorite FF extensions are available like AdBlock +
I can't download the demo right now for some weird reason... hope i can try tomorrow.
The demo is on Steam (not sure if it's available direct download).
I tried out the demo and played for almost 2 hours and while I didn't think I was going to like it I thought it kicked arss. I even liked the combat and I normally don't like that kind of combat. No way will I pay $60 for it, but once it's down to $30 or so (perhaps on a Steam summer sale) it's a must buy for me. Try the demo at least.
Yeah, I can understand that but the form factor will be the main thing, I don't think anyone buying "off the shelf components" can get it that small, the plus side is you can swap out vid card, ram, and the processor at a later date like you can do with current towers.....
The main problem with that is that any decent gaming card won't fit in that small form factor and certainly won't run off th
Good price for Alenware but I have to laugh that they consider an i3 and a 545 a serious "gaming" PC. Please. And for $700? Double please. And a 240 watt power supply? Really? Wow...a lot of people are going to get ripped off buying this turkey.
I have used ATI cards for many years after a bad Nvidia experience (it was 10 years ago though). Never had a single problem with ATI cards on new games. Granted I don't play shooters. But my 6950 rocks Skyrim on full Ultra at 60 fps with no hiccups and I had no problems at launch of that game either. Just keep your drivers up to date and look for beta drivers targeted for your specific game if there are issues. Nvidia does the same thing.
I'm still following this thread but I'm holding off on purchase right now. This may be a game I pick up in 6 months to a year from now with an expansion or two included for the price. Hopefully they will also come up with a free trial as well. Could either do a timed trial (free 10 days) or level (free up to level 5 or so) to give people a chance to try it out first.
