[quote who="jwolford" reply="13" id="3309855"]I had the same or similar problems. Could drag the start menu icons to the desktop, but not into any of the start menu folders even though the indication below the icon I was dragging said that it was going to allow the operation (no red X). The fix for me came from this excellent Windows 8 forum (searched on the "trustedinstaller" phrase that I was getting when trying to do the drag and drop from the Windows File Explorer applica

Yes, I just tried, and when I take the icon over to the desktop area, it changes and lets me move them to the desktop.. So it is working correctly for me afterall? And if so, I still don't understand why I'm not seeing that registry item in the location listed

Wait.. it lets me drag icons out of the folders that have been created under the all programs menu. is that the core of the drag-n-drop functionality? as in, there's probably no reason to just drag around the icons directly in the all programs menu as start8 keeps them alphabetically organized anyway. is that the correct functionality?

Is there any registry key setting that might be off in Windows that wouldn't allow me to drag-n-drop something.. There's gotta be something in Windows telling it that I'm not allowed to rearrange things in that all programs menu

NEVERMIND.. tried upgrading to 1.1 again now (without the system files patched) and drag-n-drop is still working the same way before, giving me the red circle with a slash icon anytime i start to try to drag any item on the all programs menu

right. i had went back to using the original Windows 8 theme when trying the drag-n-drop with 1.1, and when i would left click to drag an item, i would just get the red circle with a slash through it icon. WAIT A SECOND.. since doing the system restore to before the theme patching thing, (i'm back on 1.03 now), it's not giving me the red circle with a slash through it icon when i try to drag something now.. in this case, the drag just simply doesn't work.</p

no, i was wondering that too. but downloading the updated exe file and running it i dont think is any different. i think the internal updater most likely lets you know that there's a new version... not necessarily updating it through the program. idk though
