Bring back bolding of unread posts - much simpler to determine what you have or have not seen as yet. Had the same change happen at another site and the condemnation of that change was deafening.
RIght-click Start10 button, select Configure Start10. Under Style select Configure. Then, in "Which shortcuts..." find Windows Administrative Tools and change the display option to "Don't display this item", Cheers Brett
Thanks for that link - had already seen NSM but don't regard it as a fix for a fundamental flaw in Windows 10.
Would have to agree that this functionality is not working. At first I was skeptical as I had not experienced the problem then I discovered where the sticky corner actually was in my dual monitor setup. Enabled the option in Start 10 to disable sticky corner, rebooted and indeed found no change at all.
Right-click an empty area of the taskbar, select Properties and then check option Auto-hide the taskbar - works for me.
Start8 is clearly not meant for Windows 10 as I discovered after my home PC was upgraded and sections of the taskbar no longer fitted and actually overlapped existing elements. Also the Start8 menu had no entry for the Settings app or the Universal apps. Just because someone has not yet discovered any incompatibilities does not mean that you are being "forced" to upgrade. You can carry on using it as long as you don't try to re-install for any reason. I do agree that threa
All this moaning about $3.99/$4.99 for a new product is very depressing. I upgraded to Windows 10, saw immediately that there were incompatibilities with Start 8 and happily paid my upgrade price to get a working start menu. And, I might add, my exchange rate is over R13 to the dollar so quit the complaining.
If I, in Start 8 Configuration, select Style > What should the Start button look like? > Custom image > Pick image then I can find two sets of XP start button images, Bigxpstart and xpstart. I assume these were supplied as part of the installation.
Check in Start8 Configuration under Control > What should happen when you are on the Desktop? that the first option is set to "Start button shows Start8 Menu" Cheers, Brett
Still there in Windows 8.1 on my computer. Not very obvious though.
If you want to start in the Metro interface then Start8 Configuration > Desktop and switch off "Automatically go to the Desktop when I sign in" Cheers, Brett
Start8 Configuration > Desktop > Advanced > Show Win+X menu when right clicking the start button at the bottom of the screen. Is that not what you are looking for ? Cheers, Brett
Yes, it is from Windows 8.1 Update 1. Nothing has changed in this regard.
Try setting the display account name using Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management. Under Local Users and Groups select Users. In the right-side pane you should see an entry for susan_000. Double-click to edit and set Full Name to the name you want displayed. Cheers, Brett
(Post update got lost so redoing it) With reference to my original post, yesterday I ran a newly installed app for the first and only time ever. This has now appeared on my recently used apps list at position 1, displacing something (I can't remember what it was) that I do actually use frequently. Having set the option "Most frequently used apps should just use run count" I would expect that items which can only have a run count of 1 do not displace items with a run count
I am using Start8 1.31 and have, under Configuration, the option checked "Show recently used applications". In addition, in Start8 Tweak, I have the option checked "Most frequently used apps should just use run count". This Monday morning I wanted to access one of my recently used apps that was showing in the Start8 menu on Friday only to find that the list of apps has changed completely and is now showing apps that I haven't accessed in months. Something in the algorithm
Multiple ways - On the Windows 7 Style menu (the default) there should be pinned menu item "Windows 8 Menu". You can also Control click the start button or press the right Windows button as long as you haven't changed the default configuration. Cheers, Brett
In the Start8 configuration Configure page set the option "What should the power button do ?" to whatever you require and that will change the button action to whatever you selected. Cheers, Brett
I have seen this in 1.20 with three user accounts on the computer. Every user you switch to already has the Start8 menu open. Cheers, Brett
I notice a lot of requests for resetting of activations from people claiming to be reformatting/reinstalling the OS a number of times. Obviously this is true in many cases but I could be handing out copies of my serial number and later claim to have been reinstalling and get my activation count reset. Why not include an option in Start8 to be able to deactivate an activated serial number ? With that people reinstalling their OS could deactivate before the reinstall
Running v1.12 I find that the list of frequently used programs on the Start8 menu in Windows 7 style doesn't actually show the programs I use frequently but appears to be some random determination of programs I have run recently, in the distant past or not at all. Two cases to illustrate this: I find the Windows 8 Apps Calendar and People showing up in the menu. These I have NEVER used as I don't run Windows 8 Apps other than Wordament and Store. I also find a program
Run Start8tweak.exe from the Start8 installation folder and, on the General page, select the option "Hide the frame...". That should sort you out. Cheers, Brett
