I think that all versions - prior to version 1.09 beta that is - would leave individual entries of previous versions of Start8 in "Programs and Features (Uninstall or change a program)" listing; but as to whether other registry entries and/or files were also 'left-over' from previous versions. . . we'll have to wait for Neil to jump in and clear it up. regards, Laurence
@ all, I realize that not much time has passed since the release of Start8 1.09 beta (and I had installed it pretty much right away), however I think it is still noteworthy to mention that since installing it I have been able to type in Start8's search field and complete the search without experiencing any problems; whereas prior to the 1.09 beta Start8 would stop responding and explorer.exe would restart. I am curious to hear if any others have

Hi. I am running Start8 v.1.09 beta. Why can't the Windows "Store" icon (found in the All Programs tree list) be moved to the "Modern UI applications" folder under All Programs tree, especially seeing that it can be moved to any other folder? regards, Laurence
{"me5624", in part stated: "if I search using the search box within the Start 8 menu, explorer resets."} Unfortunately I too have been running into the same problem. And it doesn't matter what I search for (could be Chrome, Firefox, or whatever), I usually only get a couple of the letters of the name typed when the Start8 program no longer responds, and this is followed by Explorer.exe restarting. After which I "may" or "may not" be able to type i
@ CosmicBlue, in part who says, "Now I want to deactivate as much as possible of classic desktop." Are you looking for another program - not Start8 - that will disable as much of the Windows 8 Desktop UI mode of operations as possible? regards, Laurence

I downloaded Start8 v.1.03a, uninstalled v.1.03 via Program and Features in Control Panel, installed v.1.03a. Tested the change: "Added in support for right click dragging off the startmenu to create shortcuts on the desktop" and it does work on the "Start menu (Start8)" menu, so now as far as that goes it works as advertised {and that you can drag a shortcut from the Desktop and place it on the "Start menu (Start8)"}; however there is still no RMB dragging and dropping of any kind from the A
@ Neil Banfield From time to time in various postings I see you mention "the list" (sounds mysterious :-)) - is said list for internal viewing only, or can we also see what fixes and enhancements are presently on it? regards, Laurence
For now an answer to the 3rd item on my initial feature requests for Start8, which was "3) Add the ability to prevent adding icons (shortcuts) of installed Desktop programs to the Modern/Metro UI" (so that the Metro/Modern start screen does not become excessively cluttered) can be found in this little utility: AutoPin Controller Perhaps Stardock may yet implement and integrate something of their own. regards
Hi there, Is there a way to search only specific individual forums? For instance, if I am in Start8 and do a search, wanting to look through only that specific forum for an already asked question or provided answer, as best I can tell the search looks through all forums (General, Object Desktop, etc.), and provides me with its findings, albeit all of which is not necessarily pertinent to my search for the product I am seeking help with.
@ schollenbruch, a little program so as to use gadgets in Windows 8 eh. Interesting.
Perhaps your prior request of having "Send To" added to the RMB context menu of (all of) All Programs will be implemented in the next release. I for one hope so.
Start 8 uses the right Windows key quite heavily, but my Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 V2 doesn't have one. Instead of a right Windows key, it has a Flip 3D key and it cannot be reassigned to act as a right Windows key. Or can you at least provide an option to use another key in place of the right Windows key? Thanks...
If feasible, sounds good to me as well
And as for the installer bug creating multiple entries in "Programs and Features" instead of updating the existing entry. Until they fix it, you can easily remove an old entry without even going into the Registry. An old, but simple trick is this... It does as you say, on my machine as well.
Thanks for the update! Because I do not immediately see any difference in it (UI and feature offerings) I presume it is more of an under-the-hood bug fix release. Yes? All is well thus far. However when I did install it over the old version (1.01) this update (1.02) did ask for the computer to be restarted; it is just that I don't recall Start8 asking for a reboot before, although maybe it did and I just don't recall. @ naivedark I get a different result. Start8 version used: 1.0; installed on a fresh installation of Windows 8 Pro. Hi there. These are a few feature requests for Start8: 1) Include the following on the Start Menu context menu: the ability to copy and move the Start menu shortcuts to another place in the start menu; the ability to rename them; the ability to create/send shortcuts of them to the Desktop. 2) Add the option to disable (or hide) all Modern UI app's shortcuts from showing on the D
