Hi qyjack, In your initial post, I didn't know you were merely requesting an additional optional setting; in such a case, certainly I would not be against such a request. And I just went and dug out my laptop with Win7 on it, and lo and behold, you are most definitely correct about Win7's start menu growing taller by pinning more items to it: I don't recall my laptop's screen resolution (probably the typical), but my start menu could accommodate up to 15 visibl
I could have sworn that Windows 7 only allowed about 10 pinned items to show on the start menu, and anything beyond that was pushed out of sight. Anyway, regardless how Win7 worked, my vote is against changing Start8's present behaviour! That is, do not make the Start8 start menu grow taller just so that it can accommodate more visible pinned items - please, in the name of all that is right, good and true, keep it as it is. (I suppose I may have gone just a smidge
Nor does it work here. Retstart explorer.exe, right mouse click on Computer (or any of the listed items) on the right hand side of the Start Menu and a context menu appears; close and re-open the Start Menu and right mouse click on Computer (or any of the listed items) again and nothing happens. Restart explorer.exe and you can repeat the whole process over again. Note: after restarting explorer.exe, if you do not close the Start Menu, the context menu continues to wor

I am running Start8 1.1; in the 'Search programs and files' input field, when I type "to" (minus the quotation marks) the program µTorrent shows under the Programs heading (of the search results), and when I type "ut" (minus the quotation marks) the program µTorrent shows under 'Files and folders' heading (of the search results). And of course the more I fully type out "utorrent" (no quotes) the less search results are returned and µTorrent is thus place
Such abilities sound more in keeping with Stardock's WindowBlinds program.
Hi there, Can we have added to Start8's Desktop Configuration a setting to 'Disable the drag-to-close hand' (that hand which shows itself when pointing at the top of the screen)? Presently the only way to disable it is by the setting "Disable all Windows 8 hot corners when at the Desktop", however sometimes I want to leave top left hot corner or the charms bar active. regards, Laurence
[quote who="Neil Banfield" reply="1" id="3306793"]The configure Start8 option should only appear when right clicking in Windows 7 would have provided the properties menu item. In this sense it is identical to how things work on Windows 7 just saying "Configure Start8 vs Properties". Regarding clicking on white space, checkboxes naturally extend further than their text in order to handle translations and any area of them is clickable, not just the text. I will see if we
@ Stardock, I am using Start8 version 1.1. RC Looking in my crystal ball I can see a real potential for increased user problems (or "surprises"), as well as possibly increasing the need for support to rectify why Start8 now doesn't work as before, because of the now present ability to enter into Start8's configuration settings by merely "Right clicking on empty areas of the Start menu shows the Configure Start8 option" (which includes the area surrounding the "Search p

Hi tlcrick, I don't suppose that restarting the computer, or uninstalling Start8 ('all' versions that may be listed under Programs and Features in the Control Panel), and re-installing either Start8 version 1.03a (finalized version) or better yet, Start8 version 1.09.2 beta, aka 1.1 beta 2 ( found here ) makes any difference to your experience? I too wonder if anyone else using the touchpad of their Note
I am running Start8 v. 1.1 Beta 2, and on my setup the 'drag-to-close hand' remains visible unless I click on (enable) the setting "Disable all Windows hot corners when at the Desktop" found under the Desktop heading in the configuration settings. However I want to leave the charms bar and top left hot corner active. Any chance of getting another individual setting added to those already there? One which would Disable the drag-to-close hand? Here's t
Hi Luc, I am running Start8 Version 1.1 Beta 2, however I am fairly certain that this option is in Start8 v.1.03 as well: right click on the Start8 start button and click on "Configure Start8..." It opens on the Style column, and looking to the right the ability to change colour is found under "Which theme do you want to use?": you'll see "Disable translucency" to the left, and to the right of it you'll see "Color". Change it to what you
1) Any chance of having 'a return to "Default" setting' of some sort included in Configure Start8 settings? For those times when its desired settings for various reasons get lost and it no longer behaves as it once did. 2) Also what about including an "Apply" button to the settings screens in Configure Start8? Because the settings can easily and unintentionally be altered just by accidentally clicking on the white-space to the right, of any of its configurable settings. <
[quote quoting="post"] Hello, I am experiencing troubles - I installed Start8 v1.0.3 on Windows 8 64 bit and when I restart my computer program Start8 wont automatically start with windows and therefore I have no start button and not going right into desktop any ideas? I too am using Start8 v.1.09 beta; however on my machine the "Pin to Start menu (Start8)" feature works as advertised. regards, Laurence
"Winstart 8 Pro" ? ?
I'd suggest to uninstall all listings of Start8 via Programs and Features in Control Panel, then install Start8 version 1.03a (or better yet, Start8 version 1.09 beta). (Note: Even after uninstalling, upon new installation your previous configuration settings will be automatically applied - mine were). And by installing either one of those versions all future updates/installations of Start8 will only show the last one installed. (Or so I say. Good luck just the same. ;
Yeah, sounds good; and as long as it was configurable, as you suggest, please add my name to this feature request as well. regards, Laurence
Once again, go figure, since downloading and installing the Debugging Tools for Windows feature, I have not (yet at least) had any Explorer restarts, Start Menu freezes, or any problems with searching in Start8's search field. I know it seems like I am complaining about what sounds like a good thing, however unless it has mysteriously gone away for good (and miracles happen. . .) but chances are there is a very reasonable probability that it will return. And I'd prefer that

You will need to install the Debugging Tools for Windows (32 or 64 bit depending on your OS), then from an elevated command prompt run windbg -I from the Debugging tools for windows folder (off program files). Hi vengx, Have you tried the Start8 v.1.09 beta ? In it the drag and drop using the right mouse button to the desktop allows the user to create a shortcut. For v.1.03a did you have a look here to see if it is of any help. regards, Laurence
