It is a little strange. I never kept any kind of diary all my life but the web always made me want to write a personal log. I tried long before Blogs were "a thing" just by making my own web page and adding to it as i think of things. But I always wound up tweaking the web page more than writing content. So I come on here where it's all laid out for you already. It's kinda funny though, I enter blog entries, not wanting people to see them, I dont even care of people see them, it

SDC has come along nicely. I have to say the 1.0 release I was less than impressed with. But the passed few weeks, the thing has definately matured.

My only problem with the whole situation is that it walks the line. At the same time we're being premptive....we're passing laws that take away pieces of the common citizen's freedom and privacy. Allowing the FBI to prevent crimes, rather than just investigate them.....a power that was grossly abused the last time they had it under J Edgar Hoover. That is to say, the Germany of 1944 was not formed overnight by the one person's crusade, nor by the general will of the german peo

You know, I was thinking about the blog groups. It's been said that you'd like to have a filter of sorts to only show posts to specific channels show up in your blog group. I think a better idea would be to say that if my Blog belongs to a blog group named "Foo"....i get a new channel named "Foo" that I can post under. This way it's easy for people to post in a general fashion or to "Foo". What this actually becomes is sort of a user-method of creating new channels on their

Suggestions, Suggestions, Suggestions. Here's a bunch of things I'd like to see on JoeUser. I imagine many of them are already planned but not yet implmented. - A little too much real-estate used at the top of the page before you get to the meat. I think some of it could be merged into the header graphic. Like the channel list maybe. - A link to the person's full Blog when someone reads an individual post from any of the side menus - An Summary of recent posts

This is a very cool concept. In all respects it's really just a Blog-Plus. If you only want your friends to see your blog, then it pretty much is just a normal blog site. But if people rate you well, you get better exposure. The only potential problem I see is with that additional exposure, you also automatically have the potential for a higher rating. That is to say, the more people who read your blog, the more people will see your articles and thus more likely to rate

Dont put them to death....put them to work! Have them deliver US Postal Mail on foot for 10 years. While they're at it, have them sort out the potential junk mail and double check that I havent gotten any of my neighbor's mail. IN FACT.....have them verify that all return addresses are valid! *grin*

I cant wait either. A while back I started writing my own blog because I didnt like the ones out there. But i got side tracked and it wound up only half done (mostly cause i'm trying to learn ASP.NET from my ASP knowledge and its quite a bit different). And so,....i still have no blog, but i have a feeling that I will lilke the JoeUser features.

MSN is by far the best for features. But lots of my friends still hang onto AOL *cringe*. As far as MSN charging people to connect to them? This is what will keep the best IM service. I see it as only a matter of time until IM networks are overrun by spam if they're left so open. I remember in the early development of Trillian, microsoft used to actually NOTIFY them of protocol changes before they happened. I dont think this issue is about closing their IM service, but

The error messages all come from an outdated plug-in. DXPerf which shows drive space/memory/cpu. It actually warns about this when you load the theme. Hopefully some theme authors will update their themes, but in this case its very easy to recreate it with the new updated plug-ins once you learn DX a little. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/sb.gif" border=0 ALIGN="absmiddle" ALT="

Tell ya what...when you go home go into SDCentral and click View ..Show Pre-Release Versions. Install the latest DX Beta (1.99c). That should actually fix all the trayserver problems. That or maybe uninstall DX completely first, then you'll start clean with the sample DX2 theme, which actually shows you both simpel and more advanced features of DX. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles

Theres nothing wrong with downloading a graphic of the little mermaid and using it in DesktopX. In fact it might even be ok to distribute that object, after all how many CocaCola/Sony/Pioneer/Pepsi skins are their for Winamp out on the internet? Also if that were the case, any DX Object made as a zoomer, like the Unreal Tournament logo etc, would also be disallowed. The real problem would be if you were selling it, or including it as part of an "Original Creation". <BR

in order for the system tray in DX (or object bar for that matter) to work, yuo need to load the TrayServer.exe at system start up. Normally when you install DX or OB it does this for you by putting it in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. However i remember a little while back there were a couple screwy betas that didnt do it properly, so that migh be your problem. As far as general DX advice....first I'll say since you're a new user, immediately use the DX2 betas, n

Well theres good things and bad things about Obejct bar. Most of the good things you can do with a good, flexible theme (unfortunately there are very few flexible themes). The best one is BlackComb in my opinion, because theres several bar-types to choose from. I took the blackcomb theme and configured it to be ALOT different than a normal windows taskbar. -First I made a section that shows all my running tasks with 32x32 icons, and told it NOT to show me the t

When you say minimalist what exactly do you mean? DesktopX isnt meant as much to be pretty, as it is to be functional. So i'm kind of confused...if you minimalize it, you basically have extra CPU and memory usage with no gain except for a different looking taskbar....objectbar is good for that. Its different if you mean Minimal in appearence but with lots of cool thing. Thats exactly what my upcomming theme will be...lots of things, but all hidden unless you want them.
