I don't mind them working on it to have a finished polished product, but I don't like to spend money on something when they said it was going to be released in dec.
Where have you been hiding under the last decades? It's very common for games to be delayed. It's not a biggie. Think of it as you having more time to provide input to make the final result better.

Cheers for the voice of common sense. Personally I hope you won't give up on the public betas because of reasoning like this. There quite a lot of doom and gloom for impatient people and there will certainly be some in the future even up to the very last minute the game is releases. Fortunately by now you know how to filter such negativity out while keeping the morsels of creative criticism which will make the game better. It's also good to know that we're missing quite a lot of stuff
Yay! I started a new game and I managed to win (sorta). I managed to make peace with 3 AIs and then defeat the other two, so I count that as a victory. However the game didn't end which tells me you can't really have a peaceful victory :-/ (I seem to remember that I managed it once though) The trick for me was the map, if you can get a bit of isolation and you don't begin smack in the middle of 3 others, you have a chance to avoid them until you can convince a few to join you. I actua
Can't wait! I hope for a release today as next week I won't be so available :(
I'd be very happy with a Mac OS market share of 20%, Windows 50% and Linux 30%.
I GNU/Linux achieves this market share then it will simply steamroll over Windows and Macs. The only thing holding it back atm is lack of program compatibility. Such a market share would mean that most companies would create their programs as mutliplatform in order to capitulate in all the markets. And once there is no app that cannot run on 'Nix, then its freedom (both in ethical and pract
If everyone can improve on the OS, Linux will be gone from the desktops within weeks
Eh, don't be so sure. The Windows source code is insanely bloated and the Free Software developer base will have to retrain themselves to get on it.
Given this information I conclude that the extra work cannot be the reason why game developers decide to code Windows-only.
I think the case of why GPG/Stardock does it in this case is probably because theyr current devs are experienced with DirectX and not OpenGL so it's probably a retraining issue.I still think it would be worth the effort.
The trend is coding toward emulated compatibility.... (Cider, Cedega, Wine)... And I already mentioned why it's no
I would like if instead of having to remodel each of the current Demigod's another 2 times each, for the developers to start modelling some new Demigods
A skinjob is generally much much less labour intensive than a whole new model. You don't have to create new skeletons, movements, actions etc, simply change the skin and some effects. Putting multiple skins is generally considered an easy thing to achieve in the modding scene
I have to agr
Btw, I use the + and - keys to speed up and slow down the game. While it might take five or six hours to complete just one of these, in game time is usually somewhere around twelve to fifteen hours.
Ah, didn't know about this. It might help in battles and large empire managing
I see, I didn't really know about the scouting. I generally made three scouts and sent them to explore everywhere ;) I'll try to start another game and sit tight in a corner to avoid meeting everyone else :)
I did try to do the same, but I was certainly not the strongest empire (looking at the stats). How do you retain you alliances when the AIs ask you to either break alliances to do quests or go on suicide missions?
Btw, one thing that wasn't mentioned is that by coding for GNU/Linux you're effectively coding towards Mac as well as the two systems have a very similar architecture. That another hefty chunk of people with no competition from other games.
I suppose they could, but I don't see them doing 60% more work on a game to get it ready for linux resulting in a 0.5% increase in sales...
Whatever else you arguments might be, please refrain from pulling statistics out of your ass.
I just tried to play a FFA with 5 other hard AIs and I just found it impossible to win, this is mainly because all the AIs with which you don't have a Non-Aggression have you as a priority to kill. It does not seem like a FFA but rather like all against the human. The first such FFA I tried to play was a disaster. I had all 5 players simply assaulting me together in cooperation. In the next game I tried my darnedest to make as much alliances as possible. At the start when you can incr
I dont like the idea that by playing for the same side over and over again, u get other/better items for reasons of fairness. (We already have achievement points, which at the current build are easy to get.)
Well this is an achievement too so if you think those are balanced then this is the same thing
Umm... As SuSE and Red Hat are operating systems rather than software packages, I don't really see the significance. You buy service, not the software...
You're just pointing out that even if the software is free, there can be a business model that takes advantage of that. Distro companies have discovered a business model that works. Game companies can do the same. The fact that you specifically can't think of it, does not mean it can't exist. People couldn't think of a
There are quite a few other games on the same vein. Fist there are the commercially made UFO: Aftershock, UFO: Aftermath and UFO: Afterlight , which are pretty decent. Then there's the open source UFO: Alien Invasion which is free software and very nice to play (plus it gets improved all the time and this will never go away as long as there's a community around it) Project Xenocide
I'm all for minefield functionality
Its good to see someone else feels like I do. You guys keep saying static defenses are made to only stop small raiding parties but why not use them to defend. I would like my defenses to stop a medium fleet.
You'll probably love Entrenchment then ;)
strikecraft tend to about even out. Advent gets 3 for 2 squadrons, but they are weaker. Vasari have less ships in their squadrons, but those are much better armored and armed. TEC is an average of the two.
Does anyone else see this as a problem? The differences between factions seem very superficial and designed mainly to look initially different without having much of an actual distinction in gameplay. In the end it barely matters if you play with Vasari or Advent c
Animating Emotes would be AWESOME! Like a cheer, dance, rage sort of thing.
I'm sad that from the whole post the only thing being commented on is an entirely different idea :(
I couldn't agree more with Agent. We should have the starbases be as different as possible. Personally I could even go for one race foregoing starbases altogether in exchange for something different. It's probably too late now but even the very big similarities that exist in all races annoy me to an extent. Why do all of them have to have the same types of ships instead of going for all out difference. Blizzard does this all the time where no race has the same capability units or even the sam
It seems not many people are looking at the ideas forum (and most suggestiosn are posted outside of it) so I thought I might crosspost in the general room to get some feedback. The original description is here Currently we have the Light and Dark sides which basically only affect the colours and design of your buildings. I'd like to suggest to make their presence a bit more active and to give players a chance to belong so to speak. I'd like to suggest sid
Ah alright, however at this moment all your items are gone when you start a new game but you're probably aware of that already
Take this with a large grain of salt, but in my limited experience it seemed as well that they are severely underpowered. I understand that they are not balanced in regards to cost but I think that a fully maxed Starbase should be able to go toe-to-toe with a medium fleet with 2 CAPs. As it is right now, bombers literally slaughter them as they don't have much of an anti-strikeship capability and their damage potential is low. I think that an option would be to lower the cost
