As for a defensive fleet, I rarely build one. All the combat should be at the warfront. So my defense is my offensive fleet. I will usually have 1 weak ship in orbit around many of my planets to prevent the AI from stealing the planet with unarmed transports
I am quite new to the game so I don't pretend to be an expert, but when it comes to a defensive fleets I have started to experiment with diffrent configurations. The most succesfull was a "interceptor" class
Sarcasm or fact? Nope, a Quebec_french "Minor" who's typing messages with a limited vocabulary and the mindset to parse through whichever comes first. Words, that is - translated as close as possible..
No sarcasm intended my friend, I actually found your post quite poetic and well.. as others say moving. I actually think I am playing zommed in a little more lately just because of your post ;)
I would like to report a great succes in combined fleets during my current game. A little backgound: playing a small map in TA as Altarian with 7 AI's. Currently the two super powers are the Terrans and me. Humans were very exapnsive and aggressive from the start declaering war on just about everyone (including me). After a brief war with Terran I brokered a peace, then I attacked the Yor (who was in 3rd-4th place). I built and researched almost exculsively missels + point defence since
Zyxpsilon are you by any chance an english major?
I am forced to play in icon mode thanks to my incredibly bad (laptop) graphics card. At first I resented this, but now since I am used to it I will probably continue to play like this even if i buy a new machine. Although at times when more dramtic events happen I like to zoom in and enjoy the beautifull art, even thought it's likely below 1fps ;)
I tend to like bigpopa8's response. To me it feels a lot more "realistic" to combine large hull Battleships with light Destroyers as a screen, then to just mass the same type of ship. But since I am new to the game I do not know if this is a viable strategy. That is why I want to ask experienced players if this is actually economically advantageous. Or if during the fleet battles, will the Battleship be targeted and the fighter escort be ignored in certain situations? Not
That is true, but it is not really a problem in the sense that: I was actually getting quite bored towards the end of the game as I was 100% sure I would eventually win. Once that happened it became a lot more chalanging and fun. (besides I was playing as a good civ that game unlike the Evil YOR ;p )
I got this event in my latest game and the result was very funny. It happend during the end game, I was playing humans and locked in a "cold" war with the YOR whom I was slowly surpassing in every category. Besides us existed 4 less powefull civs who liked me a lot more but whose influence was small, hence my territory was spilling all over their planets. Once the PK apeared they imediately attacked these smaller civs destrying their entire fleets (because they were on "my" ter
