@ the_Monk, You Speak of Cortana like it's a blow-up doll with AI... and your every need is sated.
She comes in a blow-up doll variety?!? where!?!......... [e digicons]8(|[/e]
Yes, the sins MP community is incredibly toxic. Been that way since day 1. Never going to change. It's either 'git gud' (and that by 'the community's' standard) or GTFO. Sorry to say...
But but......Cortana is my mistress! If I turn her off and/or clear her memory how will she remember to get me those sweet things on my birthday or valentines day? [e digicons]O:)[/e] I still remember the day (with much fondness) back in 2012 when Cortana first asked me (coyly mind you) if X was my home address? I (being a bit stunned) just stared at my phone for a minute then asked back "how do you know that"? She smartly quipped
The single most important aspect with regard to security in computing is 'least privilege'. If you or (in the case of OS operations) the OS functions do not explicitly require elevated privileges to complete the current set of tasks those privileges should not be in use, period. I have no problem confidently running a patched or unpatched system of ANY OS with a straight connection to the internet [b]as long as a policy of 'least privilege' is
@ OP You raise good points about social engineering being a large threat in your OP however your post misses some very important marks. Bear with me while I illustrate. 1. You say you ran an unpatched Windows 7 machine for months with no antivirus and nothing. Ok well what does the edge of your network look like? I'm pretty sure you're running at least a simple SOHO router (60-dollar piece of shit from Best Buy) which while 'crappy' (whe
Meh ......since I have always concerned myself more with what was under the hood so to speak, I have without exception used any/all OSes throughout the years as is. Meaning the colours and/or theme they booted with on the very first boot is how they stayed until I changed systems / OS. I can honestly say I am sooooo boring I haven't even changed the desktop wallpaper from the stock OS......ever. For me it is a great way to ensure I will always keep upgrading. When
..... and I was not suggesting that SD's software (hell not even any other skinning software) was a 'security risk'. I was pointing out (in response mind you) that the decisions of OS makers in locking more areas of the code down (thus making skinning more unlikely) had more to do with security concerns over sometimes easily exploitable code within their own software than some conspiracy theory floated about removing the individual's choices! Of cours
Starkers. ...... It is a narrow view to diminish (even in part) that 'security concerns' over easily exploitable areas in OS code (too often the areas also required in order to 'customize' ) are not worthy of attention by MS, even if that means less 'flexibility'. After all even android (long the bastion of said flexibility) has become less so (see samsung's modifications many/most due to security reasons). Not all choice is good for us, &nbs
I know I know.....I'm just the doomsayer but when information like this is finally made public it is unfortunately very late in the "information theft" game. Of course passwords should be changed etc. but in my opinion one should always perform actions connected to the internet assuming that one's information (ie. accounts and all relevant information) are likely never private in the first place. In what I do (dealing with corporate network/systems infrastructu
Ahhh........hard being the Doc sometimes eh? [e digicons];)[/e] As always, for having the back of the community doc.....many thanks!
And you're so confident MS isn't doing anything untoward!
Actually I am so confident in the fact that of all of the giant tech corps "doing things untoward" MS has been (and likely always will be) under the most intense scrutiny and that alone tends to deter any number of infractions (even if I were to indulge some of the tin-foulness in this thread) [e digicons]O:)[/e]
essentially agreed with everything psychoak has posted in this thread. other than that.........the tinfoil is strong in this thread! [e digicons]O:)[/e]
So I've now played the game a bit and here's what I've found. DoK is predictably 'homeworld'. Which is to say, that any fan of the 1999 Game of the Year will definitely find "more of the same" both in story and in gameplay. The game is seriously light on MP content (yes it is sad to see that there is no option to play the campaign with a bud in coop), only 5 fairly small maps and the AI is pretty lacking.
Less than 20hrs........woot! [e digicons]:O[/e] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rf3zx_P2vHo A dev sneak peek at the MP mode - artifact retrieval
Ghost Recon: Wildlands - I've played every Ghost Recon game since the original and while some have left me scratching my head, for the most part the series has been solid. This one will definitely be a departure from the usual (at least going by the info so far available) so here's hoping it won't disappoint. Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak - Same as above. The original Homeworld has always held a special place i
Oh hey kona.......it's me. I think you answered your own question in the OP.
"It was made for XP."
[e digicons]:-"[/e]
In 2015 continued playing... Ghost Recon Phantoms and Wargame EE Of the games released in 2015....... I tried SW Battlefront - refunded the next day (due to seeing how little depth there was to the game content, felt like paying mostly for that nostalgic 'feeling') Rainbow Six Siege (I rode this one all the way from alpha and I love it more each day!) @Island Dog For R6 we've got a couple
Definitely the safest option, Monk. Keep pounding it home. But I notice you say, 'most'. [e digicons]*_*[/e] On that subject, is it possible to clone a profile & change the cloned profile's privilege level to User?
Yeah I said 'most' because well.....one or two of my machines have need (from time to time) to dwell in the nether regi
Just another reason why I've always enjoyed 'least privilege computing' vs third-party software protection. Most of my systems do not run AV/anti-whatever at all (I like my system resources/cpu cycles to be for MY use thank you); and I only keep a few on-demand utils around just in case.
Yeah really hope it's good but as Timmaigh put it, wouldn't be the first time money spent (sometimes wasted) on the latest new release etc... Speaking of, just building myself a new gaming 'rig'. Finally tired of gaming (or attempting to) on my notebook (albeit is a 'gaming notebook'). Picked up an i5 6000K and an MSI Krait with GTX 970 fairly cheaply so I finally decided to 'build' again. That and I just had to put the Samsung
Oooo baby! Yes.....already pre-ordered. You? [e digicons]O:)[/e] http://www.desertsofkharak.com/ While I was a bit disappointed in Homeworld 'remastered' due to the mash-up of mechanics since they combined some from HW1 and 2 (and I personally hated HW2) I am excited for this game.
I have finished the story. I have purchased the biggest/baddest ship in the galaxy (BLACKGATE) and I am now relaxing, cruising around harvesting and still looking for those all elusive alien hardware gear drops. So, since first officer has the con and I'm lounging in the captains bunk, I figured I'd write some general experience and tips down for others interested. 1. Don't rush to the story missions. The difficulty of all missi
Oh come on guys.......FIREFLY had some of that good ol yankee western charm! Cowboys and Indians in space......does it get any better?!? [e digicons]8O[/e] About the game. Best SP experience (in this genre) that I've had quite possibly in years. The controls are easy to pickup (think arcade), the visuals are nice enough without lagging your machine to shit when things get dicey (big bad battles),
