I would disagree with that. Codec Packs are very good, especially those such as: Vista Codecs Pack CCCP K-Lite Etc... They usually fix problems, not cause them, and give functionality that one would otherwise have to pay ridiculous amounts of money for.

Yes, this is also the ONLY place I could find impulse. Using the websites search engine is pretty useless. Why would it not be visible in the updates in Star Dock Central? Also, shouldn't it uninstall SDC before or after impulse is installed since SDC at that point would be redundant? Thanks

Yes, this is also the ONLY place I could find impulse. Using the websites search engine is pretty useless. Also, how come after installing impulse and updating everything there is no mention of "2008" anywhere. I would figure it would be somewhere after upgrading.

:SURPRISED: "BoOoooooOooOOoo" I would have no problem paying for an alternative if only one existed. Microsoft doesn't have a patent on it (to my understanding), so why does noone else have one? As you have probably read on one of my previous posts, I just paid for the Ultra version of PowerDVD, and that doesn't even have it. Paying for the ultimate version of Vista is also out of the question as it is signifantly more expensive than Business (the additional codec does not j
Zubaz: I suspect we cannot link to that site for legal reasons as my understanding is any mpeg2 decoder needs to pay for a patent license and a free codec is unlikely to have done this.
And I suspect that this is wrong because it is freeware and widely distributed by many respected news sites, including softpedia. Wouldn't they have been prosecuted by now? (K-lite).

only that I was the only one that could find an easy fix ;) Also that this is not widely known or advertised as a solution to peoples issues. The codec, since it is freely available, should be included in the Deskscapes program install unless that would cause licensing issues.
What file path is Deskscapes looking for the MPEG-2 codec in? What registry entries?I don't understand where this is coming from.
I am going to see if I can find an X64 MPEG-2 Codec, or maybe Deskscapes is just not looking in the right spot. To me it does not seem right that it needs an X64 Codec to function. Why do all other 32 bit codecs function fine with everything else? Its not like these codecs are a device driver that must be 64 bit to function with a 64 bit operat
The basic challenge we face is that there's so much going on at once. You may have seen the hot project list for 2008. Right now, Impulse is taking up a lot of our resources. We are also doing a lot of work for PC OEMs right now that, unfortunately, we can't talk about. As some make clear, DeskScapes is not an easy think. For instance, X64 support for MPEG really has nothing to do with DeskScapes. You can either play MPEG videos or you can't. Not all systems support MPEG unf

X-(
will the downloadable version of 2.0 when its ready work on 64bit home premium ?please say yes it will
As of this point, only the WMV's, not the MPEG-2's, which happens to be the overwhelming majority of the best dreams.

I also have the same issue, though it doesn't kick out an error. I have Vista X64 Business. The WMV dreams work, but after a restart, they will start playing for about 3 seconds and then stop... and I have to click on them again in the dreamscene selection page and it starts back up and works again until I restart my computer. No amount of "pause dream" and "restart dream" with the right click menu on the desktop brings it back to life. I must go to the dream selection page and click o

You-the-man Zubas, thanks for agreeing. :CONGRAT: By the way, as we all know, many software company's have a "known issues" section in their product release pages. This is not uncommon, very helpful, and would be appropriate if my particular issue is not unique (which it isn't) and will remain outstanding.
I am not sure if anyone has used a 3rd party decoder on 64 bit Vista during testing.
Well can they? ;) I think that would be relevant for testing since many people now have 64-bit Vista. There has to be some kind of 64-bit MPEG-2 available for purchase somewhere. If not the codec itself, I think that Stardock should provide information regarding the issue, and not just in this thread.

I can only hope that they will have resolved the missing MPEG-2 Codec error on Vista X64 Business before the release. Described Here: https://forums.stardock.com/?forumid=260&aid=301503 I don't think that there is anyone with X64 Business that has it working properly. The WMV's work, but not the MPEG-2's. This is with trying both free (CCCD, Vista Codecs Pack), and paid for codecs (Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra). Users have said it works with Vista X86, but
I suspect the problem is you do not have a 64 bit decoder, just a 32 bit one. Chances are the Cyberlink app is 32 bit. Deskscapes will show that message in response to a failure to display a video, so if you get the message either there is a problem with your decoder, or you have no suitable decoder. It does not look for anything it simply shows as a result of a failure. Due to how 64 bit Windows works only 64 bit code can load into a 64 bit process which is why a 32 bit decoder
