I just installed the Start8 trial and it does exactly what I need. It's almost as good as having Win7 back again :-) Thanks again for the suggestions. Cheers, Geoff

Thanks, folks. I will check it out. I see now why Win8 really bombed :-)
Here's an update from my side. I installed Classic Shell for Windows 8, which thankfully makes the computer useable again. If I run OD2.1 now, and click the Start button on the dock, the Classic Shell Start menu pops up - which is exactly what I want! Whoopee! However, if I then select the "Hide task bar" option on the OD2.1 settings and click Start this time, nothing happens (actually there's a brief flash of the start
Hello, Long time OD2 user on Win 7 and mostly very happy with it. My company just sent me a new laptop with Win 8.1 installed, and I hate it. I literally have no idea how to make it do anything without many, many keystrokes and faffing about :-) Sounds like a perfect job for OD2.1, I hear you say! So I installed OD2.1 and gleefully clicked on the "start" icon on the dock, only to groan with disappointment.
Let me see if I understood your question. Let's say I have 3 Powerpoint files open. In the dock I will see the Powerpoint program icon with the "program running" indicator (your setting is for the little triangle). If you hover your mouse over the Powerpoint icon, you will see three pop-up mini-windows appear - each one represents one of the open Powerpoint files. Each little window shows a "snapshot" of the application screen so
Wow - I can definitely confirm that HG's method worked. I'm out at a conference at the moment so I'll try the other suggestions later in the week. Many thanks for all your suggestions. Cheers, SPuD
Hi HG_Eliminator, Thank you for the fast reply - this sounds promising... Open the control panel, double click the "network and sharing center" icon, in that window select "manage network connections" in the menu on left side. In the window that opens right click on the "wireless connection icon" and select "Create a short cut". it will say "windows cant create a shortcut here would you like it placed on desktop?". click yes. then go to your desktop
Hi, I love the ObjectDock concept. I've purchased the Plus version (to JcRabbit's point I only purchased it so I can have a system tray dock as well as my main dock.) But the system trray drives me crazy. I read through this thread and I don't think the answers address my problem (happy to be put straight on that). Rather than simply say "the system tray is useless" I would like to ask two questions: 1. I have a lapto
Actually I think I'll bow out of this thread. I didn't realise I was expected to monitor the thread in real time - especially as I wasn't reporting a bug or anything that required immediate action. I'm afraid I have a day job, and I don't live in a US timezone either. I usually post to boards in coffee breaks. Apologies to Pixeleo - I'm usually the one who cringes at the misuse of English (it's usually when the word "loose" is used instead of "lose"). I will always uninstall
Hi everyone, Let me preface my remarks by saying I'm not a programmer. But for the short time I used ObjectDock I thought it was very cool indeed. I made my XP laptop desktop look like a Mac, and when I gave presentations in our HQ it frightened the bejeezus out of the IT guys! It occurs to me that the people who write ObjectDock have missed the fact that a good chunk of the PC-using world has rejected Vista. However, we've been stuck with a boring XP desktop
