Novalith, this has happened to me a few times. I got my name from Phalanx, because i though Phalanx was spelled like Phalnax at first. It does get annoying when people say you spelled your name wrong. Also in Lord of the Rings:BFMEII: ROTWK, I named my hero Lindor, and when the expansion pack came out, Lindor happened to be a place. People think i stole that too. I Pride myself on being orginal. That new game Universe At War:Earth Assault (War of the Worlds loo

I just finished a game with 5 AIs on hard difficulty (no teams). Near the middle of the game one of the AIs would send a fleet to attack my planet but when it arrived it would turn around and retreat. It was caught in "ping pong" mode. It must have repeated this 12 times or more till I stationed a fleet of light carriers with bombers to destroy them when they popped in. I notice the ping pong mode too. infact im kinda explot

Well if they were naming it after me, that would be ok, cause whenever somoene asked me "Play SINS much?" I could say "Yes, so much in fact they named one of the most devistating weapons in the game after me." However, it is just an unhappy coincidence that will most likly have people thinking I am an unoriginal, name-stealing idiot. But I am not I swear!

Just a little something I found. I just received my latest issue of PC Gamer Magazine, and inside, it has a preview of SOASE. It talked about the "Novalith Cannon", which is a TEC superweapon capable of striking planets anywhere within a solar system, to devastating effects. A planetary shield can hold out against it, but only for a short period of time. excerpt: "I built a pair of these 'fully armed and operational' battle stations

I know, the silliest reason in the world to request a change to a game right? I have had this nickname for over 10 years, I humbly humbly beg that you come up with a better name. Well, there is no better name, but perhaps a different one. When I had "Razlo" as a nick, everyone kept asking me if I liked Fallout. I made Razlo up, but apparently someone got there before me. I quit using it because it got too annoying. I know you guys made "novalith" up, but...well I am probably aski

Part of the problem is that culture is too transparent. We need to be able to click on a planet and see if we have any chance of colonizing it. Maybe at 90% + culture it cannot be taken. Whatever the case may be, there is no way to see the culture rating of planets you don't own. I think this needs to change.

change ShowIntroMovies to FALSE most likely does not have anything to do with the company and game logo .bik file. That is why it makes no difference. It does disable the intro binks--with that set to false, you should just get a static screen with both logos on it, rather than any videos. Not sure how you'd still get the videos with that set. If you read above where I explained the error you get when you

The only way I could repro this was at angles around 45 degrees. Thats why I came up with that hypothesis. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

I was finally able to reliably reproduce this. I am 95% sure I know what is happening. When you are looking down on an object, there is nothting between you and it, generally speaking. If there is, whatever is "farthest" from the "table" will be selected when you click. What is happening in this case is that when you bring the "camera" down to a low level, your view is sandwiched between somewhere you are trying to click on and an object, in this case a planet, which is behind your p

@multianna - I just realized something, the config line yor referring to: change ShowIntroMovies to FALSE most likely does not have anything to do with the company and game logo .bik file. That is why it makes no difference. It is referring to an intro movie not included in the beta that will probably play when you play the game the first time. Just tested this cause I have a few minutes and it appears to be the case. @devs Can you make it so removing or ren

Hmm... I gotta look for it gonna take me a minute or so. I may have to get back ta ya on this one. Im working 16-18 hour days at the moment so I don't have much time to play, but I am home on lunch. I will try to find it now... Done - Message Sent.

I had the same problem I think, but could not reproduce it. I am going to be very very busy this week so may not get much of a chance to test it. Perhaps you could provide screen shots? This would cut down on the time I spend working on a confirmation reproduction and help me immensly. I would really appreciate it

No, you were clear enough. Perhaps it's just the fact that we can't talk and can only type that is getting signals crossed. Your coming across as defensive in the post above. I am not attacking you, your knowledge, or belittleing your problem. It is a problem. I am just trying to make it so you can continue to enjoy the game while the resolution issue gets fixed. Both of my suggestions fix your problem. 1. If the monitor isnt on, it cant be damaged. 2. If you run the g

@ eetmorsqrls - I know they do, they fixed one I reported in a day. My remark was more directed at the "this is a beta it isnt perfect comment". Anywho, no more humor/sarcasm from me, as it never comes across right.

Hmm, that doesnt seem to do it. I cant tell for sure because I dont have the same problem he does. To see what I mean, rename the .bik files to .old. You will get the resolution change, then an error saying it cannot find the .bik. Look at how huge the text is in this error window. That indicates that the resolution has been modified without it ever loading the bik. After you get this message you will see a giant arrow on your screen. After the you get the sins beta screen you w

It isnt the .bik files. It is something in the executable that sets your resolution to 800x600 before setting it to whatever resolution the game is currently set to. I do not know what this is or how to fix it. Workaround: 1. Highlight game icon or shortcut 2. Turn off monitor 3. Press enter on your keyboad 4. Wait for audio confirmation that you are on the title screen. I am not saying the issues doesnt need to be fixed, just tryin to give you a way to

I am guessing this is a design decision and not a bug, but does EVERY uninhabited planet have to have a pirate fleet guarding it? (This is based on about a dozen restarts since last night, so I may be unlucky). Not a bug, your scout ships can make it through most systems without dying, they cannot however just sit there. Click the scout, then look in the action panel in the lower right. There is an icon to have them auto-explore. Use that. <d

I think the auto save time can be changed, I am sure I saw it somewhere. The default is 10 minutes. Can you let us know when it starts taking a long time? How many players are there, how many planets? How well developed? Once it gets to the 1+ minute save time, if you could, end the game (only temperary as it will pick up from the last save point when you reload) take some screen shots of the graphs at the end (print screen - shots stored in C:\Documents and Settings\"use

@ Peior - A lot of people have expressed the same sentiments. Hopefully they will re-balance and patch that particular function. Once they have feel free to come back and let them know what you think. They seem to respond to all critisizm, praise, and bug reports with equal intensity. That isn't something you see often in the game industry anymore. So keep playing and keep comin back and tellin em what's up!

@Daishzen - Yep. Stupid beta. If only this was release, then we could point out bugs and have em fixed @Lordkosc - Um...perhaps there is a coding error somewhere. Either that or someone laced your food with something

For the most part I agree with what you wrote. I would like to point out that them getting their planet back was not a bug. It is a result of cultural influence. That particular mechanic is the subject of much debate and is being tweaked. (link) I do agree that that AI makes some questionable decisions a lot of the times. I am getting ready to make a thread which illustrates this point. Overall thou

6 Replies 3,232 Views

@Shivoc - So then what your saying is you have seen the "defend a system" message triggered by scouts? This is good. I think they are fixing how the AI handles single or small scout encursions into a system. As for the bombing of a planet... I think it wants you to capture it. There is just no way for them to tell you that, so they tell you to bomb it instead. It honestly seems to me that the messages you see are realted to the "mission" system the AI uses to accomplish its
