Really looking forward to the updated AI. Have been having a break from Sins recently, waiting for this update in the hopes that the challange is ramped up suitably. Looks like a good decision to wait :)
i sort of agree with you guys about it getting boring quickly too. the games take sooo long and after having a few really fun ones, i just dont find it very exciting or the idea of a game really exciting anymoreor maybe im just getting old because not many games hold my attention at all anymore, but some still do ....
I know what you mean. Most recent game, playing as Vasari and teched up to RA quickly and cleared up around the star I started in. For some reason I quit th
It should be a generaly more smooth experience running with a dual core because any background services still running in windows will be taken care of on the second core. Also the Uarch of the C2D is by far superior to anything Intel did before and if the game does run slow at times for you, then the upgrade should improve that. Saying that, my game runs flawlessly unless I have Azureus running in the background with several message programs, Firefox, Outlook etc  They all try and
Well, why is it horrible? These kind of comments tend to do nothing other than inflame others because they do not come with backing statements. Just saying, "this sucks", doesn't really contribute to anything. I think the game could be improved by having superior AI that really challanged on higher levels and tweaking some of the game mechanics such as PJI's etc. Everyones oppinion is valid, but it depends on how you express it.
The last Pirate base I took out had nearly 200 ships and I dont think I lost a ship (if I did it was minimal). Later tech's and fully trained capital ships with a diverse fleet backing them up pawn pirates bad.
Yeah a level 10 battleship is going to rip apart significantly more "supporting" ships than the cost of the battleship itself. You won't really benefit from Capital ships unless you keep them alive long enough to level up. That isn't saying that the rest of the fleet is there to support it. IMHO a great fleet will be a combination of frigates, cruisers and capital ships that compliment each other and counter the enemy. Each situation is different. There is no hard and fast rule. <b
Well, I dislike the diplomacy element so much (possibly the only thing I really dont like about this game) that I never play anything other than locked teams. And yes the difficulty can change rapidly on unlocked teams if you dont play the diplomatic game well.
Nope - I agree with what you say. Very similar experience to myself.
Just because I really love this game, it doesn't mean you will or anyone else will. Sure it's not a perfect game, then again what is? The fact is, I am still playing this and it was released more than a week ago :SURPRISED: To me that is a pretty big acomplishment considering how easily I get bored with games these days.
That sounds really strange. Are you microing your Cap ship abilities and support craft? I usualy have at least one mothership to guard a battleship (sounds strange). Take that battleship to the front of the fight and set aggression (antagonise?) special ability. Then use the mothership to heal its shields. Also Guardians are very useful in this area for keeping the damage down on your main guns. A replay would be great to watch if possible.
Seems to be very well recieved. I would be surprised if it wasn't though. Congrats.
Ironclad will be continuously updating the AI as we put out new patches, so you should expect things to continue getting better.
Fantastic news. I would have been surprised if the AI had been perfect from the get go. Few games ever get it spot on right off the bat. Knowing you guys are going to be targeting this area specifically in future patches just further confirms what a good idea it is to support the companies involved.
After playing a 5 system and 10 player FFA random hard AI game, I can honestly say the fleet cap was totaly fine. Even when dealing with a huge amount at once, several simultaneous battles and trying to hold down a complete system - it just wasn't so bad. Expand, rebuild, move on while always making sure that vulnerable systems have a fleet within a jump of it. Combine knowing fleet movements up to two systems away I almost always found it possible to keep my systems covered.
I would love to see better fleet combat options. For instance, auto target SR/LR/Heavy etc. Fleet formations and other battle tactics. More customisation of the basic game elements would be a big hit I feel. AI personality customisation (perhaps too much effort I dont know?), design a ship before the game, more cruiser and frigate types, more fighter types and research tree personalisation (1). (1) What I mean by this, is lets say you start researching the "laser" research tree
3. Upgrade all planets to the maximum, higher allegiance and lots of trade ports. 4. You get a bonus for the longer the line of continuous trade ports. So the more the better. 5. This isn't true IMHO, although many threads on it. 7. Hover your mouse over the research icon at the top of the main screen. Shows a nice long list of whats up and comming (if anything is of course). Try the same with other icons for similar effects. Can't help with the others right n
I jump in with hold position, put the BB a little further out in front, Taunt them, then use the squadrons for clean up.Always hotkey your cap ships and take off the dang auto cast. only two cap ship abilities worth auto cast, the shield replenish and brilliance. everything else the fleet AI shoots off to early.
I'll have to try this thanks for the strat. And btw, the Illuminators IMHO are very useful to have at the back of your fleet. Still, if you use them in a
It always depends what the opponant is fielding at the time. With research all ships can have their place. Frigates, I usualy have up to 25 and sometimes even more Illuminators with approximately 1 Defender per 5 Illuminator. I will have the odd selection of Disciples along with a couple Purge vessles to cause a little confusion (and give tactical options during combat). Guardians are a big must in my fleets. I like to have at a minimum 1 per Capital ship. However the more the
I was thinking the same thing as the OP. The AI is just too easy even on a huge map on hard, 8 AI are no match for 1 good player (admitadly not teamed up against). Not sure I like the idea of cheating AI but it might be more interesting all the same.
Opterons used to be the king of CPU's. Not sure, I only see one core being used on my C2D.
An outside editor with lots of scope so we can make our own BSG without having to have a degree in computer science :CONGRAT: A good idea for an expansion but never going to be in a patch (maybe dev tools released? Never say never).
But if the opponant only has 10 colonies then can be constantly attacking his small selection of planets. If you are better at fighting than him, you win, if not you dont and he starts to spread. If he loses, you take a massive percentage of what he has left and the game is over. Either way you wont lose right away. The way things are now just means, having fewer planets means you aren't automatically going to lose. It is still better to have more, just not detrimental if you dont.
Yeah but not as much. It all depends how online goes as like others have said, the AI start to become predictable. Then again, with patches on the way who knows how they might improve an already superb game. What definitly will keep me playing though is community created content. BSG, B5, ST and SW mods are things I really would love in a game like SOESE. Btw, I loved COH, but IMHO Sins blows it away through scale and complexity. I only played COH solidly for a few weeks before
I took on three earlier today, it was surprisingly easy. You just have to rush them and they fold easy. If a human player gets rushed early they panic respond and rebuild. The AI seems content to slowly rebuild with fewer resources.
Where's the report button? The whole point of a discussion like this is to consider ways of improving the game. To flesh out ideas and get peoples oppinions together. You are being very rude Windexglow and asking to get flamed and derail the thread at the same time.
1) I like siege frigs the way they are. One tiny improvement could be making them a tad slower. 2) Yes, changeable caps please. 3) My personal view is, you aren't scouting ahead and countering the swarm before it gets there. I may be wrong - but - if they rely on only one type of ship, it should be fairly easy to counter them big style with another type of ship. 4) They are kinda useless as they are now. Change them or remove them from memory. 5) Oh yeah, sup
