I rely less and less on static defensis, especially turrets. Planet shields, repair platforms and at least 10 fighter slots seem to be more effective. I use the static defenses to encourage frigates to stay away from the other structures. Then again, thats resources spent on going nowhere rather than taking it to the bad guys.

The Cap ship factory is the first thing I build (with the free cap ship of course) 2 (for small or medium maps) or 3 scouts for bigger, set to auto explore. Resources come next (whatever they are). Then a Colony ship followed by a couple of light frigs. Off goes my cap ship as soon as it is ready to the best resource planet I am next to. The light frigs go with it if they are needed or to the next best one. Colonising at a pace I can sustain financially. <
Well lets look at the alternatives. What can make a siege frig go pop and costs around half the resources and a third of the cap? LRM's FTW. The best thing is, after slapping around the siege frigs you can go spam them at your enemies capital ships and watch him complain about LRM's being over powered. Unless of course he spams figthers and light frig escorts back... which would work unless you... and so and so on. Whenever I'm stuck for a counter strategy I ask myself, what would Brian
I just whooped 3 hard AI (yeah, amazing I know *cough*) and they kept spamming "plannet killers" around the edge of the map using dead asteroids to get to my flabby undefended rear. I lost that planet twice but it was intentional (not the loosing bit). I kept a nice developing fleet near by and jumped in to destroy them (always taking them out before they could flee). Basically, if the AI wants to kill your planets, why not let them. Just make sure its a planet you dont care about and t
I used to play Eve before Trinity and it was gorgeous looking then! The fact is the whole thing would grind to a hault when there were too many ships around. Also you rarely got close enough to other ships to appreciate them. Still, I too would love more detailed ship models in Sins.
Please, lets not worry about diplomacy. It doesn't really fit the story created for the game, doesn't really work in practice and is much more fun with locked teams (vs the AI anyway). As for the AI cheating and knowing when you are jumping in, it's no cheat. You can monitor up to 2 jumps away what is jumping in. I always monitor what the AI is doing so I don't get surprised either. I love how great the AI is, just now the bar has been set, lets see it rise some more.
I would imagine so unless a seriously large fleet comes in. What I do is set a rally point and pump out cheap replacement ships (say 10 long range frigs) that slowly bolster a defensive position while my main fleet goes about its business raising planets and destroying valuable infrastructure. I then keep checking back to micro the battle while I can (normaly outnumbered) and keep replacing (in akward positions) fixed defenses. This ties up the enemy for so long I can normaly
Sorry if this has been mentioned already, but I'd like to see something like a copy feature in the map builder on stars, so we could create one star system (including planets and contents), then simply copy that system to expand the universe. I'm trying to create a map that has something like 15 stars, and I want each one to be similar to each other. It seems awful time consuming to have to go into each one and create new planet groups, then create new contents for
# Updated AI players # More Game Speed Options # More aggressive AI players replacing dropped players (i.e. active AI) # AI surrendering # Improvements to ICO # Unit cap increases
Updating the AI would be great. IMHO they are pretty solid but in a game like this, surely they must be considered a work in progress? Less itchy to run would be good. Much better hit and run tactics would also be good. I like the fact that they sometimes find a different rou
Hi all, a slight problem. My planets have gone invisible or translucent (sorta see them but like a ghost). Did I press something (a hotkey or something?) or is it a bug brought on by not having totaly up to date drivers? Thanks for any help.
The delay PJI's cause for jumping could be increaed, a lot. It's still easily possible to stop or or two capital ships jumping but a whole fleet can get out real easily. By the way, I love the map Gateway. 20 missile platforms and a heavy fleet can keep that system under wraps though IMHO. BTW do PJI's stack? I mean, put two of them together and they are twice as effective?
This is not a game breaker. I easily managed to defeat a fleet of siege frigates that came my way before they took down my planet. I'm new to the game, I really dont know a lot about but I am an experienced RTS player. Like others have said, there are strategies to work this out. Try different things and dont be afraid of saving then reloading when things go wrong. This game really feels like there are many solutions to different problems, not just a counter to a problem - but many.
I wish I could do that, I'm way younger than you and really couldn't manage a 1am worknight finish let alone 6am. Still, Dune 2 was the first RTS I ever played on the Amiga and it was possibly one of the biggest eye openers ever (other than Elite 2 on the PC FTW). Great times and yes, Sins is an awsome game that really is a leap forward. I just wish I had the mental energy to give it the true attention it deserves. I know Ironclad made the game, but as far as I am concerned, Stardock is
I haven't tried online yet. Still getting used to the game and trying to formulate strategies before I go online. Hate getting pawned because I dont know what I'm doing or where things went wrong.
I got nearly 2 megabytes a second at max, averaged around 600 kb. That was on the busy day one. Not exactly a big file to get either.
Hi all. It's my 3rd night of playing Sins and I have just had to take a long break and perhaps call it a night. The previous 2 nights I just mashed my mind up with so much playing. Okay, so a few questions, if I may. (1) How long do your games usualy last on small-medium maps? My last one took 4 hours against 3 easy AI on a medium map. God it was a slog at the end. I lost all ability to micro my fleets and just clumped a few together into death balls. (2) Do you use th
My first game vs 1 easy AI wasn't so bad. The next few against multiple AI on easy I had to quit early on as I was taking a pasting and couldn't get settled enough. Now I am owning the easy AI quite nicely and moving onto a higher setting. Experience and patience is required. It should be noted as saying, this game is hard!
I haven't got into diplomacy yet so can't really comment. It's true it would be nice to have more variety of all kinds of ships, however, I think the current stategic options are pretty flexible (with research, even daunting). Early game, fighters and bombers are fairly weak. That's why I stoped researching the cruiser carrier until I knew I could research fighters/bombers more.
The current game I am playing, I have got pirates nailed just right. ***** Early game ***** Outbid your opponants only if they start puting bounties on your head. Don't feed the pirates unless you really have to. Pay special attention to the map (you have auto explored nearly all of it by now right?). If you have to bid on pirates, send them towards someone where the pirates wont have to go through your space to get to them. Idealy, pick a rival you want to slow down
I do sympathise, but really - I hate playing against gamers from half way around the world with terrible pings. It's not their fault, at all, but it really can muck up a great game. Not sure what the solution is. Perhaps if they are going to have these kind of restrictions then we really do need the option to "allow all" in MP.
This game is ****ing awsome! Once downloaded last night I played until I had to go to sleep, to go to work this morning. Unfortunately, sleeping was hard due to thinking about how best to play the game lol. Now I have to go to work, damnit. This game feels truely unique. The scope for longevity is also huge. It's been a long time since I really thought wow, I could play this game all year. So very impressed.
Just got mine too. The extra couple hours I had to wait weren't the end of the world. Weird how uptight I was waiting for a stupid email lol. *gets a grip*
Superb write up. Loved it. Just got my email during the read so am double happy. DL speed fluctuating around 300kbs. :CONGRAT: :HOT:
Lesson learnt for SD, never underestimate how impatient people are. Never underestimate how people will bitch and moan over the slightest thing if they get bored. Present company exluded of course ;)
Hey no fair. If I knew I could have done that instead of pre-ordering I would. God damnit, such itchy fingers. Feed my 20meg line please!!!
