I'm using Skin Studio 7 on Vista Home Premium x64. For some reason, the stand alone close button isn't showing up. Even if I use the default one, it refuses to appear on windows. If I click on the top right corner of a window, it will close as if the button is present but... there's nothing there. Any reason for this?
sometimes as a skinner you have to learn to live with it.........some stuff is hard coded.
Yeah, I'm a bit of a perfectionist. "Living with it" just isn't in my available actions sometimes. :p It wouldn't be so bad if I could independently change the command bar text color in Vista like you can in Windows 7. It's a major speed bump for me at the moment. I can live without skinning the navigation panel, I never use it anywa

I'm not sure how much of this is Stardock's fault. (very little, I'm sure, though there do seem to be some really strange skin studio design decisions...) I've come to the conclusion that Windows Vista is absolutely TERRIBLE as a platform when it comes to skinning. I don't have the money for it right now but I'm thinking about removing Vista from my laptop entirely and either installing XP or Win7. Or even both. There are just SO MANY parts of Vista that are either unskinnable

Hello! I'm currently using WindowBlinds 7 with Skin Studio 7 to make skins. I would like for these skins to be compatible with the three supported Operating Systems. I'm currently running Vista on my main laptop which is where I make my amazingly awesome (and seemingly never complete) skins. :p Anywho, as I said, I also want these to work on XP and Windows 7. Since Windows 7 is so similar to Vista, I've found that most of the main skin elements th

Here's another pic showing off my recently added checkboxes and dropdown menus. Both of which, I'm rather proud of. ^_^ I don't know if I want to keep the buttons or not. They seem to go well with the skin, imo... but they're a little too square for my liking. Noticeable things in this picture that probably seem odd, the logoff/shutdown buttons, which I haven't modified since posting another thread about them a while back. Some of the text colors

This is actually a really hard topic for me because I literally listen to just about everything. To me, the genre doesn't matter. If I hear a song that I like, I listen to it. I'll just list a few of the bands on my current iTunes playlist... The White Stripes System of a Down Weezer Disturbed Green Day Foo Fighters Aerosmith Savage Garden (lol) Daft Punk Stone Temple Pilots</

It wasn't so much that I hated re-installing everything, it's just that I dual boot Vista and Kubuntu, and screwing around with the partitions and boot loaders complicated things greatly for me.
so why are not the flashing button and active button uber-epic omg ? nice clean work
Because adding uber-epic-omg-flashing button and uber-epic-omg-active button would take up too much space and you couldn't see the uber-epic-omg-overall design! :p Thanks for the comments. Very encouraging... actually. Here's another pic. Just to show that it recolors ver

Thank you. I still need to make new shutdown/logoff buttons, tons of tiny frickin' images, and there's that daunting list of things under the "Edit Controls" section... most of that stuff is incomplete. I look at these things and want to quit but I've been trying to mush on. (no, I didn't mean to say push). I have to say, it seems to be far harder to work on a dark skin than a lighter one. A lot of programs aren't fully compatible with WB and it can be frustrating to ge

I agree though. The recolor option is pretty epic. There were a couple crappy skins I was working on months ago that actually looked better after I recolored them. :p

WOW... Thank you so much. I'm guessing Neil is a Stardock employee? If so, he really does need to edit those. That's really confusing. I never edit those because I figure they're actually unused or for other settings (like animations). Saved my life, man. (and what's left of my afro).

Something I've been working on ever since I uploaded the regular version a while back. This is the dark version, still unfinished. So far, entirely for Vista though I hope this one will be fully compatible with the other OSs.

Wow.... vStyler replied to one of my threads. *bows* :p You're right though, it is very tricky. Changing the window text color under system defined colors also changed it to a bright text in other fields. Which didn't work in those other areas because those are much lighter. Now I know why most people start with light colored skins. Keeping the mouseover items set to OS Default doesn't work. That's how I have it set for thos

Is it possible to sue someone for giving you an inferiority complex? If so... I'll see you in court. >:( Awesome work, man. I can only hope to be that awesome in like... five or six years. If I happen to still be into this then. :p

Okay, technical stuff out of the way first. I'm running Vista Home Premium x64. I'm using SkinStudio 7. My problem is with text color in the start menu. I'm making a dark skin, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to edit the text in the All Programs menu. Pics below. The below image is how my Start Menu currently looks. Ah, yeah. I was thinking about Bootskins at that particular moment. Still though, if they did charge for LogonStudio, I wouldn't buy it to apply backgrounds. :p

I've used Windows Vista for going on a year now (got my new laptop back in June '09) and for the most part, I don't mind it at all. There are some very annoying quirks in the system that make me want to go back to XP but then I think about some of the features and abilities I'd lose and I stick with Vista. I wish I had W7 but I don't have the spare change for it right now. Not to mention, I just recently reinstalled Vista and I don't really feel like going through THAT

I agree, it sucks how you are unable to change the layout and various colors in the Vista and W7 logons. The XP logons did, indeed, rock. There were some VERY creative things there. Applying a background just doesn't cut it. Which is why I didn't buy logon vista, honestly. My best guess would be that the design of the logons for Vista and W7 are somehow hardcoded by Microsoft to prevent modding or tampering. Which sucks, but is the only thing I can think of as to why yo

I could've swore I had changed it before updating to SS7. Hmm. Ah well. Kind of makes me want to do away with Vista and go back to XP though. Simply because XP is COMPLETELY skinnable and there are too many parts of Vista that aren't.

Alright, so I'm making this skin and working on the command bar part for Vista and W7. I have Skin Studio 7 and it would appear as though the font options for the command bar are no longer available. I know they were there before (SS6) because I had changed the font and color of my previous skin's command bar. Choosing both the background and buttons catergories have provided the same results, no apparent way to change the font for the command bar. <
