Both ways are fun to play. It all depends on what you want. The campain is naturally more plot driven and so limited but, I think, it adds an element of necessity to the game I don't always get when I play in the sandbox mode. (i.e. "If I don't research X quickly enough I will get killed when Y and Z do this...")

Why is that a bug? You knew the other civ right? So all you found out was that a race you didn't know about attacked someone you did. That sounds reasonable to me.
you are using McAffee virus scan, please disable it or have it ignore gc2launch.exe. I had/have that same problem so I sent it to the ignore list. Any idea why McAffee see's Gal Civ 2 as a virus or unwanted?
I was looking through the boards and noticed a lot of people have one issue or another with the tech tree so I tried to come up with a solution that would add some variety to every game and make things generally more unpredictable without too much more work on SD's part, I think. So my thought is to hide the tech tree basically. When you pick your tech to research you can only see the ones currently available to research. Then when you finish the research, the game randomly selects
Deposit of ore that's used in minting money? Sounds likea great way to describe a scientific reason for an economic increase. If you really wanted to make it fair, I suppose it would also need say: 50% to economy or 20% to manufacturing as ore is ore and useful in many applications.
You sort of can customize it though. By selecting people's initial reactions to your race. If you want to be evil make all the good races wary of you, the neutral races... well neutral and the evil either wary or neutral depending on the back story you make up.
What difficulty level are you playing at? It could be that the AI is just trying to improve their super great homeworlds rather than expanding early.
Check out: Link for information from someone with similar issues.
It was an option in Gal Civ 1 and I thought someone said it was being looked at to be implemented again.
I believe you can make a custom map that would fit those criteria. And besides...how much bigger does a galaxy really need to be?
You increase your espionage spending and once you are at a high level you will start automatically stealing techs. The freqency and quality of the techs depend on the other race's level and the difficulty of the game.
You most likely have something else running in the background, like a anti-virus scanning or some sort of maleware. Or you could have a really crappy processor, I dunno. Nothing in the background, and a great processor. <TD class="m
So I know this will sound a little wierd to try but I thought I would test out the flexibility of the software and well... I got the game to hang and but good. So I am playing a game on normal difficulty in a tiny galaxy with 6 other races. Its well into the game and I am 1 week into the 10 weeks needed for a cultural victory. I am at peace with everyone and friendly or better relations. I am the furthest advanced in tech, military, economy, and number of planets (thanks to some go
Hear Hear. That sounds like a great idea.
to the OP: yes, i've noticed this on larger maps too - they do the same with the flagship once the anomalies are gone - just sit in a corner somewhere... Glad to hear that too... well kinda glad. I wish we could get a developer or someone to say that this is either a bug or just not something they were worried about in the game.
Right, though I would have hoped that the computer AI would be smart enough to do something with the ship, at least when it belongs to the other races leaving you responsible for your own ship naturally.
I was wondering if this was a common issue or just a result of playing in small or tiny galaxies... Whenever I play a game in those galaxies, the AI does quite a bit of initial exploration with their scout ships (as expected). However, once the AI reaches a certain point, usually a couple of years into the game, it just parks the ships in some remote region of the galaxy and never seems to touch them again. I have seen this behavior on sub-normal to intellegent. Its not a big issue obviously
You can but it doesn't change the number of available tiles. Sorry.
Base is based on racial stats, hence why they are called base abilities. Beyond that, base is determined by resource squares and improvements. Look at your PQ26 planet vs. your better ones, I'd bet you either haven't upgraded the improvement all the way or you are focussed on another area on that planet.
I'm working on a couple of different systems. One is to take base names and just update them... Mark 2, 3, 4, ... or create a related name if I make an initial throwaway ship to test out a new technology. For instance, I might design a fighter with hyperdrive and mass drivers and call it the Avenging Angel in the early game. Any advancements would then be ... AAMk2 or Avenging Angel Mk 2 The other system is a labeling system based on class, primary weapon, primary defe
Yes but why would you want to? If its too hard, try a lower AI level until you get more practice in.
