Is there anyone here who's familiar with DirectSkin? The demo program seems a bit limited and I'm trying to find out whether the purchased copy would contain any of the things I'd need to create skins - or does it only offer the means to distribute skins on an app-by-app basis? In other words, does DirectSkin contain any of the elements from Object Desktop (such as Skin Studio)? I'm thinking of purchasing Object Desktop quite soon, with a view to purchasing DirectSkin sometime later. However,

I'm thinking of buying a whole suite of Stardock programs just now and I'd consider this to be a big drawback. It's a lot more common than it should be and it's usually down to the application storing its registry variables under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, instead of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. In fact I'll own up and admit that some of my own apps used to suffer from this same problem (I'm a Visual C++ programmer). I used to get endless grief about it from my customers. It's a very simple thing to fix so I hop
Thanks for the link...!
Okay - I know this is going to sound like a dumb question - but has anyone ever designed any WindowBlinds themes to replicate the standard XP themes (blue, olive & silver)? I think I've seen a blue one - but what about the others? I know you'll say, "just switch back to XP style" but that isn't what I need. I need to be able to skin individual apps whilst retaining the standard 'XP look' for Windows itself. You can't do this if you switch back to the XP theme because WindowBlinds sto
Thanks for the help.... I'm sorry to be a bit thick - but I can't find the Developer Journals thread (or even the General category). I'm sure they'll be somewhere obvious but I can't see them! Could you post a URL - or some instructions for locating them? Thanks.
Thanks for the extra info. I hadn't noticed that MS Office apps weren't skinning fully - but you're right, I can see that - now that I've taken a better look! The strange thing is that it doesn't seem to be anything to do with age. I've found some very old apps which skin fully (e.g. an old version of Wordpad), whereas some newer apps don't skin properly at all. I wonder what the difference is??
Thanks - that was definitely helpful. I've sorted out the wallpaper problem, at least...!
I'm a software developer who's looking at WindowBlinds with a view to making my apps compatible (WindowBlinds is great, BTW - full marks to everyone who developed it and all the skin designers!!) My apps are currently written in Visual C++ 6.0. Would I need to migrate to .NET to achieve compatibility or is it possible with standard C++? Also, even with 'compatible' apps (i.e. someone else's) I've noticed there can be discrepancies. For example, within a particular dia
Sorry - you've probably been asked these questions loads of times by other newbies. However, having recently installed WindowBlinds for the first time, a few things are puzzling me.... 1) I assume it isn't possible to change the basic colours after selecting a skin? Some of the darker skins (e.g. 'BoXXed') look fantastic - but they leave me trying to read dark text against a very dark background, which is too difficult to bother with. 2) Is it possible to change the desktop
