The intention is that you not play turns over, but hey, this is all just for fun and a chance to share and hone strategies. I was able to get through my games without playing turns over... I even lost my best production city while it was making one of the towers when it got ransacked by Crag Spawn during my first game... argh! I made sure I took out those Crag Spawn in the second game. ;-)

I know it doesn't count playing it a second time, but I wanted to see if I could improve on a few things and I did! I won in 143 turns and even got a 10,000+ point score. What I did differently: a ) tried to get the conclaves to level 4 (i was able to get one to level 4 before researching the book of mastery tech, i wish i could have got the other two to level 4 too) b ) generally built more cities... in my first game, i was hesitant to build
well i finished game in 110 turns conquering all world in 4h his game is 159 turns and it is a research victory - without many battles that slows you down, and his game is 32h long ...
Maybe that's what happens when you leave the game running overnight or something.
Question: it is fully research type of victory right? So the challenge is to make as effective research machine ?
Yes that is correct. Once you get the Book of Mastery tech researched, then you have to build some towers (requires lots of resources and production points) and then cast the Spell of Making which takes 10 turns and costs lots of mana. So the challenge is to make an effe

A few of us would like to try a GAME-OF-THE-MONTH format where we all play the same game, share experiences, strategies, have some fun, and see who can win the victory condition by the earliest turn. The ground rules are: - play by honor system (no cheats) - do not use pioneer-bank exploit - do not load from autosave unless you crash We will try different factions, victory conditions, map types, difficulty levels, etc. The first game is outlined in

It may be difficult to police all of the exploits, but I'll try to come up with a few ground rules. The endgame screen should suffice, but there may also be others interested in seeing some of your gameplay so feel free to record the session. We can try a different faction, map type, and victory condition for each new game of the month. I'm leaning towards Pariden, Spell of Making victory, on a random medium map for the first one... earliest turn is t

My strategy with Kraxis is to make Karavox a Fire Mage. I tried to design all my troops with high dodge to take advantage of the fortify ability, but I usually play on higher difficulties where the AI gets accuracy bonuses so that neutralizes my high dodge troops. I've only ever converted 1 or 2 cities with 1000g, but I frequently steal the best AI units for 100g.
Uhm, that's not my question. I thought population (within cities of the same level) did not affect research in any way. But that city level affects research directly, = city-lvl x city-type's research bonus. To explain/repeat better: Can a level-3-Town with high population have better research than a level-3-Town with a lower population (given they have the same buildings and wonders also)? And

Yes I use Steal Spirit. I don't use it every game, but here are some times that I use it: 1. Hero has so many injuries that he's basically useless. 2. Hero that I have no intention of leveling up because he is weak, but he has a nice magic class that would go well with my sovereign 3. Just picked up my third mage hero (so I don't need anymore) who has something like an Earth III magic class and my sovereign is only Earth II mag

1. Hard question cuz I like them all! Life or Death depending on which side you take, then I would probably take Water next. 2. Whatever I take for my sovereign, I try to take other magic I don't have when recruiting champions. 3. Early: Water for Inspiration and Freeze, Life for Sovereign's Call, Air for Tutelage and Haste Mid: Earth for Enchanted Hammers and Tremor Late: Fire for Fireballs, Death fo

So I would make a 6/3/0 a Conclave or Fortress not a Town and here's why. 1. One factor of Research bonuses is based on population so the bigger you can grow a city, the more research you can get out of it. 2. I think the "prison" upgrade is one of the best city upgrades in the game (-10% unrest for your entire faction). Since I usually have lots of cities, the "prison" upgrade is a must. The difficult part is that it is a Level 4 fortress

I would like to add an observation that I'm seeing with 1.3 AI. I think Brad heard the complaints about poor city planning by the AI so I'm seeing the AI try to build better cities. Unfortunately, this is coming at the expense of building better and more troops especially during time of war. I'll be at war with the AI and they are researching "growth" when they should be pumping out troops.

which ever one will provide the bigger benefit at the time... if you click on one choice, watch how it modifies your growth (look down in the stats of the town, it will show what kind of benefit that building will bring) ... then click on the other and choose which ever is the greater benefit. now there are some other things to consider strategically speaking such as should you even care about growth?!? it all depends on what you're trying to do, how fast do you want t
