The second issue is that there is no way to see the technology tree as a whole, it's just too big the way it is laid out. What this means is I have no place I can go to see at a glace how my technology research is progressing. E.g., I've gone a long way down the weapons research tree, but my diplomacy is lacking. Yes I could scro

I've bought that magazine, it's crap. PC Format is much better IMO. Just another mediocre reviewer trying to stand out by being controversial. Any serious gamer gets more than one opinion anyway.

It lists what each technology gives you, but it provides no further information beyond that, so you only know whether a technology is worth it by researching it and seeing what everything does. I think that's what the OP is getting at. It would be nice to have a built in help system to give you details on ship components and planetary improvements.

As for the person who said Gal Civ I came out in the early 90s... Eh? Seems like I remember GCI came out a few years ago. MOO2, and esp. MOO1, are far older. I seem to remember a Dev (Frogboy?) mentioning that there is an even earlier version of GC that predates MOO. I saw it among the responses to on

I think planetary bombardment should be allowed, but you should take a massive morale penalty (say, -25% morale for 6 months, per bombardment?). I think that would represent your citizen's shock at your blatant disregard for life. They may also start to fear you. In my opinion, this would allow the feature to be kept in check. If you start to destroy worlds left right and centre your population is going to think you've gone insane. Pretty soon, you'll

I'd like to see more emphasis on exploration. Currently this 4X game is missing 1X, as far as I'm concerned. The initial "colony-rush" phase is vaguely interesting in the way the distribution of your colonies sets the tone of the rest of that game, but I wouldn't characterize that phase as exploration. It's more like "wander arou

Fine points, and I'll admit that I rarely trade techs anyway. Who knows, it might give me the incentive to try some espionage.

I was just thinking about the new patch that's in development (waiting for the patch feels worse than waiting for Xmas!), and especially about the forthcoming "No Tech Trading" option. Although I can understand the reasons for including it, it seems to have some serious downsides too. Some of the diplomatic races will suffer for it, and negotiations will be less important. Why not add a further option, that restricts tech trading

There are currently 5 'flavours' of ship hulls that races can choose from, but what if each race also had a unique hull shape for the medium+ sized classes? They could still use the generic ones for their 'flavour' too, but it might make races stand out from each other a bit more.

There's a drop down list on the rop right of the new game window. If you select the "Battle of the Gods" scenario, every civilization starts with all the techs.

I think agree with you, although I've never used them. I've certainly had no problem defending myself without them. Some of them take up valuable space on your planet's surface, that could be used for other buildings.

I've often wondered this myself, but I haven't tried it yet. I might have a go later and see if it makes any difference. There are several ways to do it: one is to do all the maths and work it out on paper, another is to test it in game. i.e. Start a new game on the biggest map, with one opponent. Save the game to preserve the world, and then rush buy farms and entertainment centres (building nothing else). Fast forward to turn 50 or so and check your economy. Then, reload the game an

Some features I would like to see in the game (just for fun): 1 - Option to prevent ship designs from carrying over to new games. 2 - Option to randomize home systems. 3 - Optional patches of "Impassable Terrain" (thick asteroid belts, space storms etc.) to add tactical options. 4 - Option to start without flagships (or perhaps any ships at all). 5 - New star distribution options, such as random d

The game was recommended to me (and others) by a member of another website. "Word of mouth" is a popular choice, because you can learn which friends have similar tastes to yours, and they're are usually more trustworthy than online reviewers (and its cheaper than buying gaming mags). Incidentally, the other game I'm from is "Laser Squad Nemesis".

I have the number of stars set to Abundant (the highest it can go I think), but on the biggest maps there is still an awful lot of empty space. Is there a way to mod the game so that it uses twice the number of stars (for example)? I also noticed that in one of the tutorial videos, the planet Earth is orbiting a star called "Primus" or something. Is there a way to stop the game giving everyone those crappy (and virtually identical) star syst

Holy hell, nobody is forcing anyone to download the frickin' thing. So what if Stardock want to use players for guinea pigs? It works out better for the community at large, and some people get a real buzz from testing things before the rest of the world gets to experience it. Personally I don't like that, so I didn't download it, but thank you to those people who did (well, at least the ones who know what they're doing), because now I won't have to wai
