Quoting psychoak, reply 19 I see little room for comparison between the two games. They're both turn based strategy games made by Stardock with customizable units that include out-of-planet/city resources that improve your civilization and also outposts/starbases that extend your influence, and minor threats (minor races vs. wilderness) that can be exploited for in-game advantages.
This type of AI behaviour reminds me a lot of the Gal Civ 2 AI... The more I read stuff about the game the more I get the idea that this is Gal Civ 2 in a fantasy world + rpg elements....?
I felt the same as you regarding GalCiv, and there is definitely a GalCiv vibe going here. However, in my opinion I think the RPG elements help give this game more personality. And regarding expansion - yeah. I
I've read a couple of player reviews there were low on metacritic and it seems that people think because the races have similar looks that they're the same and that since your settlement gets attacked if you don't protect it and you lose that the game is bad.
I've only played Tarth so far, so I can't comment on the differentiation of races. But the second point... the other current TBS games that come to my mind are Civ 5 and War
It's not a "review", it is "impressions". If he's attacking with no weapon, maybe the issue is with the game not being informative enough for new players to realize how to equip a weapon. (Paper doll would go a LONG way toward solving this and be more consistent with the RPG style of ruler/champions). I finally realized that if my turn doesn't auto-advance, then a city is idle. I never notice the stuff on the right side of the screen. <
File is corrupt. Wonderful. 3.5gb of useless. Would have been nice to get Steam keys but oh well.
It's not often talked about but there's something around 100,000 people who are going to be getting this game for free and it matters a great deal to me that they are happy with it. First computer game I ever played was Hunt the Wumpus on a TRS-80 in the "computer lab" at my school.
Fun game, but it suffers from "high level monsters appear suddenly right in the middle of your empire because we can't get the computer AI to put up a decent fight" syndrome.
Funny. I know of another TBS fantasy game that does that.
On annual trips to visit my in-laws, I still play Incunabula on the piece of brown-steamy-stuff they have for a computer.
Large please. Or larger. I would play on smaller maps but half the land is taken up with throw-away "cliffs" along the ocean. Those tiles are absolutely pointless and should be removed (see Elementerra).
FE is different, but still not in a state that is "fun", certainly not one worth paying money for. But again, I seem to be in the minority here.) Any individual that ever feels compelled to litigate over a computer game is probably in the wrong hobby.
I got Fallout 3 GOTY for $4.99. I already owned Fallout 3 and all the DLC (from GFWL) but didn't feel like bothering with discs and GFWL anymore, so I bought it again.
Picked this game up during the Steam sale and haven't regretted it, except for when there is an elite Fire Elemental right next to my capital A few questions for you smart people:
Well I'll take I shot until the smart people get here.
-I bought the DLC with it, but don't see it in my steam library. Is it automatically integrated into the game? (I haven't bought DLC before)
I like Steam. I'll even buy games I already own just to have them on Steam. I can't be bothered with physical media anymore.
@ Stuie Thanks for the suggestion but I was referring to the diplo option in Civ4 where you could trade maps with the AI - it helped you to uncover the world without having to send a unit to every corner of the map
Ok. I feel stupid. :D
I'd also like to see 'share world map' back too
You can save the world map from the save game menu. Not sure if that buys you what you're looking for or not...
So the expansion for Civ 5 Gods and Kings is out today. Think its worth the 29.99 they're asking?
Only if you liked Civ 5 going in. If you didn't like Civ 5, this isn't going to change your mind.
I suppose the original Romance of the Three Kingdoms was my gateway drug. Civilization cemented my habit. Thanks Sid.
I think a big problem is illustrated in some of the posts here. Multiplayer is probably used by 10% or less of the player base for a TBS game, and of that less-than-10% there is no consensus on the "best" way to implement it. So for the money involved you'd only be satisfying some fraction of 1/10th of your customers. Not worth it when you could implement something cool for the 90% instead.
