Help!! WB is messing up my computer!! (with screenshots)

I don't know what to do anymore... I tried everything!

I have been using WB5 for about 4 days now and I haven't gotten any types of errors, whatsoever, up until a few hours ago.. I didn't even do a thing! I was using Mormegil's ChristmasTime theme (and ran it for 4 days without errors), then when I decided to come to WinCustomize.com to browse for new Objects and such, my computer hung up on me! I don't know if that had anything to do with my visiting wincustomize.com, but it couldn't have been a virus or a spyware because I just performed a general maintenance on my computer a few hours earlier (and I have been doing that since January).. Then I restarted my computer using the button on my CPU and when I entered my Windows XP account, the entire "start" bar below (the whole thing, not just the start button, but the entire bar -- sorry, i have no idea what it's called) didn't even show up! The only thing that showed up was the digital clock, and that's it.. Ok, hold on.. I don't know where I'm going anymore. I think it's better if I just show you a screenshot and maybe you can just help me out and tell me what's wrong (also, I tried uninstalling+re-installing WB5, but apparently, that didn't fix my problem)..

That's my whole screen.. No "start button" and the entire "bar" at the bottom of the screen is messed up! WB also got rid of my Windows XP theme.. I tried accessing through desktop/right-click/bah blah but then that didn't work.. all it's showing me is nothing (sorry, I'm really, really sleepy and i have been trying to fix this problem since 5 PM (and now it's about (9:00).. so, that should explain why my grammar is skewed. i haven't even eaten yet!) I tried righ clicking on "My Computer" and going to "Manage" / "Services" / etc. (as one poster explained in another thread), but that didn't work -- it didn't bring my Windows XP theme back..

Please help me! I am totally clueless about what's going on! And once again, excuse the grammar. I'm typing this up real fast because I'm about to collapse.. I really hope you guys can help me! Please!

This issue is caused by the cracked version of WindowBlinds.  Don't run the cracked version of WindowBlinds and this won't happen.

In this world, it is understood that nobody and NOTHING is perfect, so how certain are you that the legit copies of WB don't make such an error, as well?


Nobody is saying WB is perfect. WB5 was beta tested by a large pool of users for 2-3 months (I forget exactly how long). This effect would have been noticed early in the pre-release process.

People who post system information and are determined to be registered users are getting support for problems they encounter. The effect we are discussing is limited to users whose System Information or personal profile information is not legitimate...

i have read 60% of all software is pirated. in places like china and other places it's much higher. in the US it's about 50% i think.

Is anyone awared of where WB5 cracked files came from?


Can it be from some hackers? but how can they embed the time bomb or counter in the binary files to make your PC feel sticky like crazy after sometime?


Can i say that's just a dirty countered software piracy from.......

WB5, WB6, or WBx...... will be cracked no matter how greedy company is going to be!

banruptcy: Stardock had nothing to do with that crack. 

As it happens we have spent a considerable amount of time since release getting warez versions of WB removed from the internet.

ppl just leave it be cause people who use warez arent gunna convice buyers and buyers are DEFINATELY DEFINALELY not gunna convince warez users to buy merchandice (this being one of the reasons) so just leave it be

heh, good luck with that one... a search on yahoo for "windowblinds 5" crack shows 84,000 results. if i wanted to d/l it again right now i know of tons of sites i could get it within a minute or so. it's a futile fight. when my software was first warezed i tried sending emails to the warez sites telling them to remove it (a yahoo search for my program shows 15,300 results). of course all of them ignored me. yeah you could hire lawyers and stuff, but the simple fact that warez sites can exist for years and years just out in the open, not hidden at all, shows there's nothing that can be done about it. why waste your resources? that time could be better spent on developing new products. i spend some time trying to thwat (sp?) piracy, but i do it just for the fun of trying to stay one step ahead, not cause i think i can win.

Vanilla Ice: You could indeed get one of those 84,000 cracks and guess what? They will all have the same problem.  Now, someone might be able to properly crack it but then again, users will have to sift through those 84,000 other cracks to find one that works correctly.  Good luck.

If you install binary patches to low level software such as WindowBlinds, bad things are likely to happen.

WindowBlinds is NOT doing anything to your system. It is the patch taht did it. It patches out very key code in there that cause WindowBlinds to no longer be able to paint bitmaps.

Blaming Stardock is absurd. It would be like someone binary patching the Windows XP kernel and complaining to Microsoft that the OS won't boot anymore.

heh, so the patch changed the code that allows it to paint properly. but it waited until now to do it?

sorting through 84,000 cracks would be hard. you're right. but only people new to pirating would do that. the millions of others will have no problem. if you can just go to any one warez/crack site and keep an eye on new releases, then you'll see when the better-patched version comes out. or just when you go to a crack DB, download the latest patch instead of an older one. it'll likely even be called the "proper" crack.

as i said i've used patched kernels and patched uxtheme's and patched everything else for forever and had no problems. the ones who get problems are mostly just people who don't know what they're doing. downloading the SP1 kernel when they have SP2 or something. but witht aht said, i have to use patched kernels because BootSkin crashes my computer...

I have no doubt that more cracks will be made. And then a few weeks later, they'll come in and whine about how it died again.  There's like a dozen and a half different backup activation checks in there.  And given that the first crack was so poorly written that it managed to hose WB's painting code when one of the backup activation checks came on, I can't even imagine what the next crack will do to people's systems.

Some people will steal no matter what.  There's nothing that can be done about it.  If someone values their time so little that they're willing to risk messing up their computers with faulty cracks after sifting through zillions of cracks rather than pay 20 bucks, then that's a sale we wouldn't get no matter what.

But some people will.  Today, ironically, may actually surpass the release date of WindowBlinds 5 in terms of sales.  So at the end of the day, the system is working.

That IS an option...but not necessarily the best one.

As long as it is made clear that the people who are most upset only have themselves to blame....that it is a fault of warez-use, and NOT Windowblinds itself....and most intelligent readers will see that...then no harm's done in letting them insert their own respective feet orally...

Maybe. For today.  Just shows how foolish some people are. 

So when THOSE people come back complaining that their boot sector is hosed or god knows what the next patch will do I'm sure people will feel true heart-felt sympathy..
