well i think bk334572 was trying to say that per Pixels wont work on the PUBlic Version(trial)

Anyway the software is cool but not that much has changed...

I bought several copys of stardock and I know the registry and shit...

im no big fan of paying for every new version or even upgrading for stuff like this 4 real you guys get enough money for doing this dont you!?

after deinstllation clear the registry by search for stardock...

press F3 to search for the next one until its telling you that ithas checked all the mess

NOW 4 all of you WindowsShoppers

1.dissconect any online activity,disconnect any cables to your online modem or else wireless Lan just go offline and remove the Card

2.go to your system clock change Date know Reinstall do whats wtrittin down in the info or readme then press restart after changing the dll

IT will work without any problems if the Date is correct and if the PC or Lap is offline and no cables are connectet to the PC Laptop ect Wireless disconnect aND REMOVE CARD IT will work 100%

sorry that I had to write this down but i simply had to cause this is the first time that a stardock board is liyng to me about there software and im pissed like everybodyelse on this board ...you were saying its the crack that causes trouble? NO its Stardock !!wich is pissed that normaly kids have cracked & broken their famous incredible shields to defend the software and 4 those that bought it it will not make any diffrence So why Stardock why are you liyng to your Users?just answer that question

well I just treid to bring the cracked version to work but it was crashing all the time could not remove registryKeys thats all but thanks anyway I guess some people will thank you for your interest in Software development but others wont Im very thankful likealways of course but I think I will stick to my Windowblind 5 in the legal way

I will respond to one bit of this.

The last time WB customers had to pay for an upgrade was in April 2003 I believe.  2 and a half years seems fair for us to charge an upgrade fee again.  WB5 has a lot of new features and features take development time and development costs money.  Unlike many companies, Stardock are not releasing major new versions every year & expecting an upgrade fee.

Much as Brad would perhaps love everyone to work for nothing and for rent, food, clothing, electricity etc to be free, thats just not going to happen!

I know of very few software companies that give major version updates away for free. Office releases once every 2-3 years and it's typically a large overhaul and you have to buy it again at retail if you want the newer version. Same thing for Adobe, Macromedia, Apple etc... In general, those people who do offer you all versions from now until the end of time once you've purchased the software are very small shareware developers.

If you want a really good deal on WB5 and all the other products, get Object Desktop Network. For something like $50 a year you get access to most of their skinning software as a bundle and any upgrades that occur over the 1 year sub period. Some years, you'll get a great deal when most of the apps get an update. Heck, I got my ODNT sub value alone with WB since I used WB4 and WB5. At $20 each, I've just about made up my subscription in just WB. Add in DesktopX, IconPackager etc... excellent deal. So drop the "greedy" argument, it doesn't work here.

u shouldnt use warez but if u choose to, then ur responsible for whatever happens..
and no matter how much the company charge for udpates or whatnot has nothing wrong.. they are ALLOWed to do that.. as they programmed the damn thing.

if u dont want to pay thats another thing, but dont make it sound like its their fault that ppl use warez. becuz no matter WHAT the company does, some ppl out there will STILL use warez.

(btw i use warez myself, i dun think n e one on this planet pays for every single freaking software that they use. but im just saying it is not the companies fault, becuz its wrong to use warez, its illegal)

If I can't afford something, I don't go out and steal it. I just don't buy it and live without it. PCs, net, software, they're luxuries, not life's necessities. Though I have a feeling saying this will have an effect akin to bashing one's head against a brick wall.

u can't use the fact that u can't afford it to justify that its right to use warez or that u have to use it..

if u can't afford things, then u can't have it... unless u steal it... which is what ur doing with warez.. no matter what the reason is... its still not right to use warez.. whether u can or cant afford.

thats just lovely - all the buyers reding the forum will agree wholeheartedly while the stealers and piarates are busy lookin for better cracked versions of WB5.... My point? Saying things isnt gunna help the situation of piarates. Besides, the greater appeal of the product, but more there will be a demand for the cracked version of the program. Just leave it be...

Maybe it's because I havn't read past page 3 but there seems to be some loop holes in this sotry I'm hearing.
I used a pirated copy and my system got messed up so I uninstalled it.
You claim that it was not windoblinds that did this but the crack I used. The crack was software I can see where software would mess my system up. HOWEVER, people who shared registry keys with their friends also had their systems chewed up. They didn't install anything other than windowblinds that would do this to their system??? Someone please explain what happened to their systems for me. I think I'm just not understanding something.

Was this just WB's responce to cracks or did the crack-maker decide to be an ass? Can someone clear this up for me? I'm confused...
And before someone tells me "just go buy it HUR." No, I won't buy software from a company that's that mean. So unless I get some questions answered and confromation that it WAS the crack I used and NOT windowblinds, I'm not paying for anything.

I don't know what it was, but I got one thing to contribute: obviously just turning your system clock back to a date before 16th of december is a workaround for this issue.
I'm posting this here because some people who have actually bought the software claimed to have issues; if anyone from Stardock sees this as a workaround against their "copy protection", feel free to delete my post - it was only made in order to help some of the users here out.

And before you ask, I'm using the trial version of Windowblinds. Can't afford the full version as a student with shipping to Europe and all that shit, so I'll just stay clean and use this as long as I'm allowed to - even if I'll have to look for a different skinning program in a few weeks I guess, although I really love WB :/ But no can do, right?

TheLain: Purchasing WB does not normally involve shipping unless you need it on a CD.

Its $19.95 for electronic download.  Thats less than £12 for UK users for example.
