Logoff Buttons Transparency

I'm updating my long lost skin, Easteria, with all problems that I can find to be fixed. I cant seem to figure out why if I use magic pink on the logoff buttons bitmap, after I reload skin it has black border around it. Please help. If you need an s/s I will provide!

Seems like I asked this question about a year ago and was told that with those buttons you had to use a tga to get transparency.

You should use Targa format files if you can. If you can't use targa, you could try just using a section of the xp start menu bottom bar image behind the icons, and don't use the magic pink at all (I used to do that all the time.)

What I do nowadays is:

1) for the 'logoff buttons' section in SkinStudio, create a tga image which has the 'symbol' part of the button - i.e. the circle with the dash inside etc. (Note that if you use a 'logoff buttons background' as well, you will only see the 'normal' state of these icons, not mouseover or pressed)

2) then I create another tga image which is used in the 'logoff buttons background' section, which has the 'body' of the button in three states - normal, pressed, mouseover, with the button to the left and blank transparency to the right of each state.

When you add these to your skin you need to make sure that it results in the icon centering correctly over the background - it may take a bit of practice.

If it helps, take a look at the images I used in Retro.

HTH.

Keep in mind that if you're using magic pink .bmp transparency, you should not check the Translucency box. Only check the Transparency box.

Yes, mike. I knew that. But thanks anyway. Essorant: I was just about to download retro! I would use targa if I knew how. I had to reread what you said a few times to undersatnd it. How dumb am I? If Its possible with to do *.tga with MS Photo Editor (the one that used to come with office), could you help?

THANKS SO FAR! The fresh update will be happy!

Create your image as a .png. When skinstudio imports the .png it will automatically convert the .png to a .tga.
